Yeah, plus.... all of the original parts that made it standout would have to be cut. No one on the American side could measure up on the fight choreography part, and that was what helped make The Raid so memorable. Reducing it to schlocky or truncated American fight choreography would do nothing but a disservice to the remake.
What script?! The Raid has a bare bones story. A SWAT team gets trapped in a high rise building, during a drug raid and need to fight their way out. That´s it, that´s the whole movie. What made The Raid so special, was the amazing fight choreography & direction. Gareth Evans is a genius when it comes to action direction and the Indonesian stunt team are incredible martial artists. There´s no way, that they could replicate this in Hollywood.
@@jacobwest7 The Departed was decent, but Infernal Affairs' trilogy was just so next level, and was very layered and intricate. The Departed was very interesting, but it had lightning fast editing and it felt like we never really got into the movie or the characters much. Scarface, however, is one of the few remakes where the remake was far superior to the original. But then again, Brian De Palma was a force to be reckoned within the 80s and early 90s.
I appreciate the fact that he aknowledged the quality and the cult status of the original, hinting that maybe the remake being scrapped is a good thing .
Movies should be remade because they can be improved or they’re from a completely different time and place and modernizing them could be interesting. Remaking something that is at such a high level like The Raid is doomed for failure as a superfluous exercise in ego and a very misguided attempt to print money off an already built commodity. Like another said, Dredd, in a way is the perfect imagining of a Raid style movie but done in it’s own way and respecting it’s own world.
I never liked the idea of an namericanize action remake of The Raid (it's one of my all-time favorite action flicks), but I'd love to see it remade as a horror flick. Same setup but with a horror twist.
Frank grillo to me,is NOT a box office draw,he just isnt,,,so if hes in a movie that I want to watch because of the MAIN actor, and Frank happens to be in it,,,,,it wouldn't matter,,so if hes in the movie or not,,,it wouldn't matter,he doesnt draw my attention as an actor
I do love watching him myself. There are roles he's not meant for to me the MAIN guy. But as a head supporting character, indeed. He is just one of those actors that feeds off the other around him and puts his all into it, regardless of the movie is blah
I absolutely don't want a remake AT ALL, but in his defense, Chris Hemsworths extraction sequel has proven him a solid choice for a raid type film. And Liams action performance in Land of Bad and choreography was also taking to the raid style of filmwork. I can undertand his sentiment. But even Extraction 2 pales in comparison to the Raid, and its heavily influenced by it. @Ghosst14
@Ghosst14 give land of bad a shot. It was a genuinely surprising theater experience, made by the guy who made Undetwater. But i undertand, before Land of Bad, Liam was doing a lot of straight to dvd productions
I honestly have never seen The Raid aka The Raid: Redemption here in the states as well as The Raid 2, even though I absolutely love badass action films with buckets of blood and gore to spare as long as they are well choreographed which, a lot of movies from overseas tend to be better choreographed than movies I’ve seen here in the states. I don’t mind reading subtitles as long as a story invests me enough because, there are far too many movies and tv shows I’ve seen from overseas that don’t have interesting stories to me that I’ve tried but, I do like me a good gangster flick or show so, I will definitely have to check out both of these flicks for sure and rather soon too.
The Raid is just one of those movies that absolutely does not need a remake. Utterly pointless.

If Gareth Evans isn't attached to it, don't even bother.
Agreed

What the hell were you thinking trying to remake The Raid? Don't ever do that, ever.
Money
@KJ_1810 if it was for the money, they wouldn't be pleased with the outcome. Because it would more than likely bomb!
Same with the scarface 1932 and infernal affairs, well actually those remakes came out great for alot of people

I couldn't sit through it the nanny times I tried to watch it. I always feel asleep.
The raid has a remake, it's called Dredd 2012.😅
Wrong. Actually Dredd started filming in 2010 and it wasn't released till 2012.
Anybody who has seen the RAID movies wouldn't want to see the remake of any of classic hardcore action movies.
We already HAVE a Western version of The Raid; it's called Dredd.
The beauty about the Raid movies is the Pencak Silat style which Americans could never duplicate. Leave them alone!
Facts!!!!

I was pissed when I heard The Raid was getting remade. I want a 3rd film! Also, loved Werewolves!
Werewolves🐺? Is it really that good? Seriously
Well good. Because good luck making that work.

It shouldn’t be remade unless the original director is doing it

The raid is great.
Part two is clean pish...
Just hire the same director and production team to make American remake lol

the RAID does'nt need to be remake
don't let Hughes near it he did an awful job with Expendables 3 and Hitmans Bodyguard
