Almost anything from hollow knight, every theme had this sort of empty, sad feeling to it. Every song has a feeling of lost greatness. Oh yeah the Grimm troupe has a ton of cool tracks
yes!!! when i first heard it i got chills and it was so moving!!! the only downside to me now is that that cutscene is unskippable, so on your 10th playthough you wish for death when you have to sit through it - kinda loses the power it had, but i still think it's an incredible song
Oh yes! There's that one short bit when Cullen sings along, and you notice that he's got the best voice ever and now you want to hear more of him singing it but you never will... frustrating yet absolutely amazing! :D
My favorite music moment is in the opening mission of mass effect 3, when Shepard is fleeing from Earth as the reapers destroy it. The music that comes with the reapers is all sound, then suddenly punctured by the loud horns. Just makes you really feel the hopelessness and loss that comes with that whole game (the song is called "leaving earth")
Almost perfect choice ;) My favourite is Suicide Mission from ME2 - everything about that piece is precisely tuned into the tension and terror of the endgame.
@bye Felicia @Gerardo Berrelleza Yeah suicide mission was a close second for me, along with "a farewell once and into the inevitable" from the end of the citadel dlc
I was learning to drive around the same time I finished the mass effect trilogy. I had to make a playlist specifically without that song because, after weeks of almost non-stop playing to beat ME3 before I had to go to a summer camp- hearing the reaper horns consistently made me jump and swerve the car for about a month afterward.
I was scouring the comments for this because I knew I couldn't be the only person thinking of Leaving Earth. It's just a somber piano that gets ripped apart by the brass, much like all the hard work and preparation that Shepard tried to accomplish in the first two games
Seriously how is 'Leaving Earth' not on this list. When the music begins, Shepherd (and therefore the player) is leaving the planet of their birth in the throws of its destruction. it is hard to imagine a dry eye after experiencing that. Hopefully most people will never know the heart break of living though the destruction of their home through war or disaster, but this piece of music will make sure you have a pretty good idea what it feels like.

"Dearly Beloved" Every kingdom hearts version. It just evolves with each version. I love it so much. Then the opening theme of FFXII was just majestic... and Many level of sonic the hedgehog. Just to name a few of my favorites.
YES! I was just about to post this myself, such beautiful music, I can never get enough of it When I was a wee lad, even if I wasn't playing games I would leave my PS2 on and just let the KH2 title screen play so I could enjoy the music literally for hours on end. It still tugs on my heart strings when I hear it.
Just as I opened KH3 for the first time and listened to "Dearly Beloved" I actually didn't start the actual game for another 10 minutes just listening to it. It sounded so grand and nostalgic, like coming back home for the first time in 15 years
Oh man ffxii's opening! I love ivalice so much, I would sit in front of the PS2 and just let the intro movie play over and over again because it was the height of beauty then
The thing that always gets me about Undertale's soundtrack is that different parts in Asgore's theme correspond to Toriel's theme, Asriel's theme, and the song that plays when you die
@@cecee4087 True, but up until now...I'm waiting for some remix artists to make a combination of this 4 Songs into one, aka; Mevalovania, Bonethrousle, Spear of Justice, and Metatton EX Theme. Streets of Whiterun- Skyrim. Music does a lot to me, and I frequently use it to put myself in a certain headspace. But nothing, _nothing_ sounds better to me than the Streets of Whiterun. I was that kid who would put on random video games to just sit in a zone and listen to the music (before the age of youtube), and I found myself doing that in Whiterun again. I just turned Skyrim on, intent on playing some, loaded into Whiterun and then... managed to do what I was putting off, with Whiterun's theme in the background. It's the sound of your family greeting you after a long day working. It's the sound of your partner there on the couch, next to you in front of the fire. It's the sound of a morning when you wake naturally, sunbeams floating without a care in through your windows. It's the sound of a warm hearth in the cold winter. It's the sound of safety, peace and *home.* It's the sound of the most important thing in the world, and what you'll go to the ends of Nirn, and beyond, to protect.
The biggest musical moment for me in gaming was the "leaving earth" scene at the start of Mass Effect 3. You've had two full games and countless hours leading up to this exact moment, and theres this beautiful piano peice playing as you get into the shuttle that manages to be equal parts hopeful and bleak. Then this Reaper comes in and gives off this juxtaposing mechanical sound in time with the music as the tension rises, that stops and goes back to piano as the shuttles explode and everyone is dying. Then you rise up and see multiple reapers decending upon Earth as the music swells, and it's this feeling of "this is the end" in so many different ways, and it's just such a magical moment. I genuinely burst into tears on my first play through.
The title music, from Subnautica, called “Salutations” is just so pretty, its really relaxing but has the cool techno that tells you, this is going to be a good time
I remember waiting for Subnautica to download and then just watching the trailer over and over and just vibing to the BOOP BOOP BEEP BAAP BOOP BOOP BEEP BAAP BOOP BOOP BEEP BAAP BOOP BOOP BOOP BOOP
Undertales Music in general is insanely good in my opinion. My favourite Song is Hopes and Dreams. I also love the many different versions of Asriels Theme (wich is also used in hopes and dreams)
I agree with Jane one of the best game songs. Three songs that you missed 1. Leaving Earth - Mass Effect 3 it fit that moment and just great. 2. The main theme in Oblivion at the beginning right before you start. 3.The song in Skyrim when a dragon attacks, the moment when you realize you will have to empty your inventory after this fight just epic.
Oblivion is pretty awesome with its soundtrack, especially when you are in the wilderness and the soft orchestral music playing in the background reflects the vastness of the province. Excellent pick.
I know it's not technically OST but so many songs from Fallout: New Vegas. Big Iron and Jingle Jangle Jingle immediately make me feel like a badass post-apocalyptic cowboy.
While I'm among the few who prefers Skyrim to Morrowind, I must say, the Morrowind theme is far better in my eyes... ears? I dunno. Main themes aside, I must say near every track in Oblivion was truly fantastical! If I remember the story right, the composer had a near death experience a few days before starting work on the Oblivion score, inspiring him to write an original soundtrack to reflect the beauty of life. Anywhere you go, it feels as though magic is seeping out of every pixel and sound byte.
@@kylie_h1978 It's definitely good, though I find it too inconsistent. Buildup... BRASS!!! ...calm? Morrowinds theme is the same tune, though more harmonious and a bit quieter, less urgent. It's not as epic, but much prettier.
Fleeting Dream from Final Fantasy X always has such a big big place in my heart. It's one of those pieces of music that plays as great ambience alone, but in the context of when it is used in the game it just kicks in your chest but marches you forward, making it really fitting for what the characters are going through - and you alongside them. It's always been my "I need to fix this... somehow" music.
andy's "i just really like music... that's it." is the most relatable thing i've heard all year also may i submit for your approval the main theme from animal crossing: wild world
I get lots of feels when I hear Kou Ohtani’s “The Farthest Land” in Shadow of the Colossus. The song plays when you idle in the start menu and then it shows Agro the horse frolicking through the games map. It’s awesome and makes my heart feel lighter and heavier at the same time. The beautiful Music and the beautiful horse are the perfect pair.
The Witcher 3 not spoiling when/why it's used but the track I think it's name is 'the wolf and the swallow' is probably the most reliable way of making me cry Or for pure nostalgia the first bandland theme from Rayman one, the song used for the biggest difficulty spike in games but is so relentlessly cheerful you don't even mind
@@CrenJay Fields of Ard Skellig!! There's so many excellent ones from The Witcher 3. Personal favorite - though I don't think it's the best: Hearts of Stone/A Gifted Man Brings Gifts Galore.
"The Wolven Storm" is another solid song in the Witcher series imho. It does more world building in its two minutes than some other stories ever hope to achieve and it definitely helps that it's performed so very well!
Outer wilds. Hands down the best indie game/soundtrack/gameplay of the last 10 years haha. Also the AC ezio soundtrack is just like the music from the movie the Fountain..super similar composer style and instruments and melody
For me, one of my favourite pieces of game music is Aeris's Theme from FFVII. It's an amazing piece of work. Hits you right in the feels when you realise the theme is basically a death theme for one of the sweetest and most loving characters in the game. 😭
Blueberry Sans I cried my eyes out when I watched youtubers play it. I’ve never played it though. I’m broke but I got a switch a Christmas or two ago and I’m too scared to ask for money or games. I love it with all my damn heart.
the dragon age origins theme will always, always get me, it's so jarring in its' haunting nostalgia; the build up is remarkable, just going from ghostly, delicate vocals to percussion fit for war, then back and forth between the two
I remember playing for the first time and hearing that awesome guitar lick, I was definitely mind blown. Needless to say, that entire game might have my favorite soundtrack of all time.
Any of the Elder Scrolls themes, but especially Nerevear Rising from Morrowind brings a year to my eye every time! (And Jane, the Mjollnir mix is definitely awesome and very metal 🤘
Not to mention that the melody from Nerevar Rising ended up becoming an unmistakable musical theme for the later Elder Scrolls titles (Oblivion, Skyrim) -- plus the fan / mod community for TES have further cemented the iconic status of Nerevar Rising thru multiple tribute covers & musical reimaginings (my personal favorite is "The Elder Scrolls" by Jon "Bosa" Babbs from the "Morrowind Music Overdose" series).
I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire from Fallout 3... I still get shivers from that introduction... and you know... good theme for running around the wasteland setting people on fire with my Shishkebab....
The Fields of Ard Skellig - The Witcher 3 I still remember the first moment I heard it. After HOURS of wandering the endlessly grim bogs and forests of Velen, killing and burning everything that snarled and gurgled at me in the wrong way, stepping off the boat on Skellige, riding out into the rolling crisp hills with those Tolkienesque white topped mountains all around. Then those angelic vocals kick in. Truly a breathtaking moment. I actually had to put the pad down for a minute and just let the beauty of it all sink in. There is something even mystical about that song. Awe inspiring
20:55 "An electric guitarist towards the distance" Nah nah nah Jane, we all know he's riding on the back of a warthog trying to get to you so that the two of can mow down some covenant scum bags with the turret gun XD
For me, an underrated yet beautiful OST is "Folsense" from the game Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. It's so nostalgic, spooky, the ambiance of the city, gloomy and melancholic, is so well depicted through it and the orchestra version is really beautiful too.
How about all of the iterations of the elder scrolls theme music. Whenever I listen to any of them, it sends shivers down my spine and brings thoughts of questing, fighting a daedra or exploring a fantasy city
Same here. The Morrowind Theme "Nerevar Rising" will always have a special place in my heart. Fun fact by the way: You can hear Lorkhan's heart beating in the background.
@@idontevenknowanymorelol2062 and it's not even a nostalgia of anything specific. It's just the nostalgia of the feelings of pure childhood, the joy and simplicity we used to feel
The songs in Road rash for the Sega Genesis are ones I listed to for hours when I was a kid. Each location had a a unique soundtrack and definitely replayed some to listen to it again.
Any love for the Dungeon Siege OST? I mean the games are now weak and dated by today’s standards but Jeremy Soule did a fantastic job creating a memorable soundtrack. Listen a bit to the main menu theme at the 2:33 mark and you’ll see what I mean. th-cam.com/video/Rwks61-910c/w-d-xo.html
"Her Last Breath" from Phantasy Star 4 on the genesis sucker punches me every time. There's just one note that starts it, a single ring of a deep bell. All I need to hear is that one note and I start to tear up. It then builds into a sorrowful tune that plays over when (spoilers for a game from 1994) one of your party members dies permanently. The mentor figure that's been a real badass and awesome to that point, and she just dies and there's nothing you can do to stop it, and I'm not crying, you're crying!
One of my favorite songs is called unseen entities its from a game called under night in birth it really gives me the feeling of "i don't understand what im going up against but its do or die" and i love it
Clash on the Big Bridge - Final Fantasy V Shooting Star - Megaman Starforce Dearly Beloved - Kingdom Hearts Cornered - Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Descent of the Great Goddess - Okami Proof of a Hero - Monster Hunter (personally prefer the version from Generations Ultimate)
There are so many video game songs that are so good. Video game music is kind of unique in that it’s made for a specific place or person, and that gives it some personality and impact that can make it hard to explain to people who don’t play video games. And Luke, I have to agree with you. The Hyrule field theme orchestrated is one of the best things
The menu music for Dragon Age: Origins. Hauntingly beautiful and otherworldly it really gave the impression of coming from an old land of magic, monsters and dragons.
7. Hotline Miami: Electric Dreams 6. Portal 2: Reconstructing More Science 5. Undertale: Waterfall 4. The Binding of Isaac Main Theme 3. Silent Hill 2: Theme of Laura 2. Morrowind Main Theme 1. Sonic 2: Chemical Plant Zone These are my personal picks
@@hunkydoodle2374 I was thinking original Isaac, but the extra songs in Wrath of the Lamb are good too. I love rebirth but I was pretty disappointed with the new score, Danny Baranowsky did such a good job with the original. I also really like "The Clubbing of Isaac" remix by Big Giant Circles.
Skyrim, guys. Skyrim. On my way to a job interview, I listened to the main theme on repeat to pump myself up, chanting to myself, "I am the dovahkiin. I am the f***ing dovahkiin." Needless to say, I got the job.
OH. More obscure. The soundtrack to the original real-time strategy Dune: The Battle for Arrakis for Sega. That had such a sweet 16-bit rock soundtrack. I can still hear the tracks playing in my head 25 years later.
One of my favorites was in Dragon Age Inquisition, "the dawn will come". When they start singing in that one scene it literally brings tears to my eyes.
The three songs that blew my mind are: "Still Alive" from Portal; the rap song in I think is stage two or three of Violent Storm; and from all the epic songs which compose the Guilty Gear's soundtrack, my favorite: "Momentary Life", Baiken's theme in Guilty Gear X, if I recall correctly.
The soundtrack to Doom (2016) is incredible, especially "At Doom's Gate" going from the iconic E1M1 riff into heart pumping metal epicness and being punctuated by the cocking of a shotgun makes me make an involuntary noise that I am not proud of.
9:15 fully agree with you man. That 15 seconds makes it easily the best individual hyrule field theme and one of the best character themes of the series (Remember that the ballad of twilight is this incarnation of the hero's personal theme).

This is my second choice after M4 from the end of Mass Effect 1
It's so lovely seeing Luke feeling the music. I'm not as into that song as he is but I appreciate it just bc of his precious reaction :D
Mass Effect 3 Leaving Earth gives me chills Everytime I hear it. The massive horns simulating the reapers.... Man.
Every time that reaper blows up the ship with the kid on it 😭😭
Literally gonna say this one! It's so emotional and I love it

One Winged Angel in FF7 during the fight with Sephiroth made me extra anxious as he descended for the battle...awesome song
Yeah, but the music from Red XIII's village is my jam.
The thing that always gets me about Undertale's soundtrack is that different parts in Asgore's theme correspond to Toriel's theme, Asriel's theme, and the song that plays when you die

YES, leaving earth and 'an end once and for all' are so potent. I can't listen to those without tearing up
'The fleets arrive' also gets me every time. So damn epic.

I agree with Jane one of the best game songs. Three songs that you missed
I'm also going to add the Normandy II reveal from Mass Effect 2, and Distant Horizons kicking in as you crest the hill overlooking Rorikstead at dawn.
Well that was 3 of mine right there, epic choices.
I know it's not technically OST but so many songs from Fallout: New Vegas. Big Iron and Jingle Jangle Jingle immediately make me feel like a badass post-apocalyptic cowboy.

The main menu song in Skyrim. The fact that it is in the Dragon language and rhymes is so cool to me
While I'm among the few who prefers Skyrim to Morrowind, I must say, the Morrowind theme is far better in my eyes... ears?

I actually prefer Oblivion's Theme to both Morrowind and Skyrim.
@@kylie_h1978 It's definitely good, though I find it too inconsistent. Buildup... BRASS!!! ...calm? Morrowinds theme is the same tune, though more harmonious and a bit quieter, less urgent. It's not as epic, but much prettier.

@@VeraTheTabbynx I think oblivions theme fits the whole series a little more
Fleeting Dream from Final Fantasy X always has such a big big place in my heart. It's one of those pieces of music that plays as great ambience alone, but in the context of when it is used in the game it just kicks in your chest but marches you forward, making it really fitting for what the characters are going through - and you alongside them. It's always been my "I need to fix this... somehow" music.
andy's "i just really like music... that's it." is the most relatable thing i've heard all year

Orange man Bad
Gears!
The Witcher 3 not spoiling when/why it's used but the track I think it's name is 'the wolf and the swallow' is probably the most reliable way of making me cry
Or for pure nostalgia the first bandland theme from Rayman one, the song used for the biggest difficulty spike in games but is so relentlessly cheerful you don't even mind
Wolf and the Swallow for me too! I was just about to comment it but I saw you for the first :) also the fields of Are Skellig
So many good tracks from that game
THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK OF JOURNEY. ALL OF IT.

Don't stop with just Journey. Austin Wintory's entire career.
Outer wilds. Hands down the best indie game/soundtrack/gameplay of the last 10 years haha. Also the AC ezio soundtrack is just like the music from the movie the Fountain..super similar composer style and instruments and melody

Undertale has lots of amazing music, I honestly am not surprised it’s on here.

the dragon age origins theme will always, always get me, it's so jarring in its' haunting nostalgia; the build up is remarkable, just going from ghostly, delicate vocals to percussion fit for war, then back and forth between the two
Gerudo Valley from ocarina of time, I’d go back there just to listen to the soundtrack :’)❤️

Temple of time was my favorite.
I remember playing for the first time and hearing that awesome guitar lick, I was definitely mind blown.
Needless to say, that entire game might have my favorite soundtrack of all time.
Midnas Lament.
The ice cave was also really good
Any of the Elder Scrolls themes, but especially Nerevear Rising from Morrowind brings a year to my eye every time!
I dunno..."Maybe" or "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" felt a little better for intro music.
The Fields of Ard Skellig - The Witcher 3
I still remember the first moment I heard it.

"Her Last Breath" from Phantasy Star 4 on the genesis sucker punches me every time. There's just one note that starts it, a single ring of a deep bell.
