Splitise: Likes the Primitive Water Filter because it "ties him to his Base longer" Splitsie DISlikes the Oxygen Balloon because it "ties him very tightly to being stuck at his Base" /BLAMMO!
I think it might be a case of 'ooh new shiny' and also how tightly they tether you to the base. The O2 one ties you very close and for me it feels a bit too close when you have the alternative option of putting some oxite in your suit. The alternative with the water is to get a little bit sick :P
if you don't want to repair the building after a storm, use concrete parts, bone armor is the best at low levels after this from refined obsidian tier 4, the furs ar usefull to make coldsteel tools(tier3 )some of the best in the game, you can make fuel brick from furs +sap(charr craft menu ) also you can use some in decoration bench for items that can boost your comfort better and longer buff after sleep the game is rly good :) good luck mate...
in response to around 1:54:00, CDDA has a good system of food spoilage, it shows if the food is getting old, going off soon and give an estimate on the lifetime of the meat. you don't need to skin it but it takes more time and you need a rope or chain to hoist it to properly butcher it or quarter it first so you can carry chunks of it back to a table/tarp.so if you do hunt a large animal you either need to freeze it ( winter is good natural storage to a point) or find a way to cure or can the meat. the hunting aspect is less developed as it more just hp values and bleeding out.
Part of my dislike of Icarus is the auto-aggro of animals that DON'T auto-aggro on each other. Why does a wolf go after the person with a spear when there's a deer closer? Why do bears try to break into a cabin when there's no food? I know there are lore reasons, but it just ruins the fun for me. I feel the same way with Space Engineers where it's impossible to hide from enemies. You can have 20 meters of rock between you and them; they've destroyed everything on the surface -- and they'll keep firing until they burrow through the stone to you.
Yeah, the animal behaviour is one of the things I really hope they do more for, there have been a number of improvements since the early days, but still not quite the level of interesting behaviours that I hoped for. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there are any popular games that are doing it either :/
Amazing to see you back to Icarus! Really keen to see what you make of some of the changes, most notably the power systems changes you discussed in your Dev interview
1:55:16 easiest way would be making it so youre not feeding just yourself, youre feeding a convoy/group/space ship in orbit/space colony, who keep your gear upkept, also helps fix the spoilage issue since now you have a way to get rid of your excess without wasting it.
A bit of a different roofing you could try, and that is surprisingly useful for natural light, is have a slope, then cut vertically down, then start the next slope when you reach the height of the wall, in the same angle as the last slope, cut vertically down, repeat as needed. The roof will kinda look like an "N" or a saw teeth from the side. Add windows/light gaps in the vertical bit. I've seen it used in warehouses and laboratories, as it adds natural ilumination to the inside, at places far from where windows wouldn't help anymore and you would start to depend on lamps to keep bright. Alignment of the windows with the sun is finicky in some games, if it's too dark inside and the sun too bright, instead of internal illumination, you get flashbangs.
Hi Splitsie. You are in for a world of Hurt but take it from this Null Sector Veteran, you can solo it. Takes only 3 things. preparation, Preparation and PREPARATION. Also there is a workshop crossbow with a 0.7 sec reload, That is the closest thing to a light machine gun I have ever seen and it takes a very long time to wear out. I am slowly working my way up for the last mission, will take me weeks of real time but since I am master of my own time... Also. Get a buffalo, not very fast but great stamina and built like a tank so unless you do stupid stuff they will not get killed.
The RBLF thinks the discerning Bear would prefer either a nice Honey Mustard or a Sweet Molasses based BBQ sauce to dip the Splitsie bits in… Discerning Bears are Gourmands 😂😂😂😂😂
The dirt mounds have a couple of neat tricks. They don't burn so can be used in the lava. You can dig dirt from a dirt from a dirt mound without it getting damaged.
Yep, I've played games that had that and it mostly wasn't fun, so where my head was at during the stream was trying to think up ways to make this more realistic approach to survival translate into something fun, rather than just something somewhat gruelling - which is super tricky
An interesting thing this game can do in the future is add failed runs from previous ‘settlers’. Some eerie little reminders that these worlds are hostile. Depending on the biome range from nothing to pretty crazy intense.
I don't know if this gets brought up by someone in chat on the steam, but if you hit J there's now an in-game encyclopedia you can search items and resources to see all uses/costs/etc about them. You can make a fuel brick with wool from sheep (workshop) and fur.
Bows predate thwe stone age and deep into the Paleolithic period. in fact, the famous Caveman preserved in that French Cave from the Ice Age HAD a Bow and further research found he had Died from an Arrow wound to the shoulder. regarding your stone masonry Castle Build. build a Motte & Baily style of keep. start with a hill of dirt built up from the ground with a proper palisade around it for buildings like Stable and Workshop. on top of the hill is the stone keep proper built to suit the Host.
I always enjoy watching you play this, it's both a lot of fun and funny. I will say, since you have a shovel and dirt ramps, that can also be a really good way out of a lot of cave issues. I am willing to be they have dirt floors in most cases. ;) I'm glad you came back to this, thank you, your videos help a lot with making me smile. Also, have you ever tried Subsistence or the Infected?
Ah, good idea - shovels are light and I can carry it in place of carrying ramps, I like it :) I haven't tried either of those, I've heard of subsistence but not infected though
Fair point, I like to try and think about how some of those difficult processes could be made fun and interesting to engage with, but I've only gotten as far as some ideas about knives and axes etc
You talked about scratching Open World Survival itch, might I recommend Conan Exiles? Well built, food, hunger, and temp. integration, good mods, qol and otherwise, and the Journey system will point you in a way to continue.
sad part about this game with the voxel they did not layer the hit box so items can be pushed through the voxel i told them how to fix it but no one will ever listen.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, the purple haze does get a bit much but then my eyes adjust and I stop noticing it at all - everything else just looks weird :P
I regularly watch your content lol this makes me painfully aware that accents are a thing. I still give my more redneck friends crap for saying "ann tann uh" instead of antenna :P I also take psychic damage watching your Stationeers when I hear "soul durr" if it makes you feel any better.
Huh, it's funny thinking about that, because I watched a bunch of his stuff, I think before I ever made anything of my own - he's got a nice relaxing voice to have playing on a second screen while you play along :)
Dad jokes are also the sort of thing that are easier to handle once you're... groan up.

The skill trees for animals are pretty damn good as well.
So excited for you to be back in Icarus. So much new stuff for you to investigate and the changes power and water system are cool.
I'm looking forward to getting into the power stuff 🙂
The new animal stuff is extremely cool.

Regarding SE2 backwards compatibility they mentioned in the stream that 1 way conversion of blueprints should be possible.
The dirt mounds have a couple of neat tricks. They don't burn so can be used in the lava. You can dig dirt from a dirt from a dirt mound without it getting damaged.
Oh yeah, they'll be really handy in the lava area for making crossings and things
1:55:00 "Rabbit Starvation". The answer to most most game mechanics like this is a balanced diet.
Yep, I've played games that had that and it mostly wasn't fun, so where my head was at during the stream was trying to think up ways to make this more realistic approach to survival translate into something fun, rather than just something somewhat gruelling - which is super tricky
An open building idea for the future: Build a base out over the water and include a room clearly labelled "Bath". Said room, of course, has no floor.
The new Field Guide is useful ('J') for world and item info.
An interesting thing this game can do in the future is add failed runs from previous ‘settlers’. Some eerie little reminders that these worlds are hostile. Depending on the biome range from nothing to pretty crazy intense.

Thankfully it did, and we got to the bottom of it - so nice to burn fur rather than just toss it on the ground
@Flipsie awesome! Hopefully I'll finish the video tonight and try to catch it live on twitch next time. Cheers!
How long until Capac tries to convince the haunting to make him a sandwich lol

I tried a few variants like that to get them to fit nicely around the image 😂
Splitsie I find you calling Hecate a demigod offensive, Hecate was a goddess!
Oops! I misremembered that bit it seems :D
@@Flipsie Unless you were perhaps thinking of Heracles who was demigod but later became the god of strength and heroes.
Most survival games greatly oversimplify making and using bows, though, and that's part of what makes them OP.

well flipsie there are a bigger version of the wooden storage crate... but ya gotta look for it...
I know I could have unlocked the other one, but with cupboards so close and so much better I figured I'd go for them 🙂

Gawd, still losing wood through the floor after so many years :(
I don't get why wood is the only material you have to get talent to have it auto picked up.

Gotta say I set up my bases in the tundra to avoid the purple haze.

Also Splitsie while you forgot the oxygen bottle you also forgot the canteen
Well at least they can be ordered and dropped onto the planet.
Yeah, though I'll have steel soon so probably won't need to worry :)
Realisticly, it is easier to make a knife than arrows...
Hand make arrows don't fly straight.
That's very true, and sticking a knife on the end of a stick to make a spear isn't difficult either
Oldest arrowheads found in south Africa are over 60k years old.
I bet as soon as mankind was able to chisel stone or bone, it has escalated quickly.
Tree respawning or growing hasn't been added.
