Man, I remember when the Spectralert series first came out, I think around 97. Makes me feel old when we I see devices that were new during my childhood getting replaced.
Fr. I was in kindergarten when the Spectralert Advances were brand spanking new, and they were just installed replacing the old simplex horns. I'm 2008-2009. The primary building is gone now making way for the new Highschool that also replaced an old 200 year old jr.high building, that got finished being built in 2023. I'm currently enrolled in college now. However, some day there will be something that will replace the Spectralert Advances and they will someday be discontinued.
My job currently has siemens As's, Spectralert Advances, and Gentex Commanders. They already replaced a few of the Siemens As's with the L series alarms. It probably won't be long until all of the Siemens AS alarms will be replaced with either more Gentex alarms, or more L-series. Very likely, that the Spectralert advances are here to stay along with the 2 gentex alarms will be here for a while still, since the gentex alarms are actually brand new, but in the near future they will likely end up going away too.
@@SomeDudeWithAnExitSign yeah , really since about age 4 in the early 90s. lived near my relatives for a while and I had a couple uncles that both worked for separate electrical contractors (1996 IIRC).One used Edwards so that uncle gave me an Edwards catalog that had the then new 792 horn strobes and 278 pulls. They still carried the horn only version of the 892s. I had another uncle that would source from ADI so whenever he received a new catalog, he’d give me everything that was obsolete. This was before they introduced anything like the spectralert so they had the Faraday, the old Gentex devices and MASSs. That uncle preferred gentex at the time as they were simpler to install than the MASS and fairly reliable. He had lots of Gentex literature.
I actually did something similar at work today. Some devices we had at a new install were incorrect and needed to be changed so I swapped them out. Also, some devices were missing from their locations so I wired them and put them up. I also put up an additional NAC booster as well as it wasn’t up and needed to be put up.
Did you make sure to match the candela setting of the old appliances? If you just leave them at the factory default of 15 candela you might not get enough coverage depending on how they're spaced.
It seems like these new LED L-Series were installed with a date code of 4032 (2nd Week of March 2024) which means these LED L-series are about 7 months old since August of 2023)
The commanders shouldn't be there if you want a sync protocol with the classics. Don't really know if these commanders were installed with the classics but the techs should already know about the sync protocol the classics have. Other than that, nice install
My school did the same. They had Wheelock MTs but replaced them in 2004 with Edwards enhanced Integrities. They did that because of an expansion and MTs did not meet the codes for strobe synchronization. It was a smart move though.
@@FireSafetyTechI actually like the LED L Series and I am kind of on FireAlarmDude5967's side with "the appearance doesn't matter, the functionality does"
I like watching enthusiasts replace the alarms like this. I personally find it satisfying. I also learn a lot from them just by watching.
fr. as someone who unlike alot of people dislikes old systems it is satasfying for me to see the old alarms being replace

Wow, you must have been a enthusiast for a long time. Curious how things were back then in the 90s and early 2000z

i hope you kept the alarms
A box of spectralerts is a box of gold...

The first building with LED System sensor
Very sad ending for the Spectralerts but it had to happen anyway.
It shouldn't happen, the LED L-series will sync with the SpectrAlert Classics
@@joeycaridi3030 the problem was that there was a Gentex commander 1, now yes they could replace that but the building wanted it anyway.

Wow! That's really smart. I used to find System Sensor date codes as confusing as heck!
I thought the xenon L series were discontinued - guess not when my Walmart replaced all speaker strobes with these noisy horn strobes
@@pfefferwal Oh 💩!
Too bad these awesome older devices had to go. Did you get to keep any of them?
I got all of them. I have since sold a few on my eBay but I had to take the listings down while I’m in Reno for college
@@FourtyFiftyEightynice! We can’t let those working alarms go to waste
This video of this series starting soon is like NIC'S SYSTEMS AND ELECTRIC replacing fire alarms but they're at different schools
Seeing a voice evac system install would be awesome

This is some really cool content!
Ooooh my storage!
Do you get to keep the old alarms
Do more of these videos please!
Me an intelligential would’ve replaced just the Gentex Commander 1s
lol they wanted him to replace all of them
@@CoolSimasGuy if I was in charge of billing I would have quoted them for that. However I am not in charge of billing unfortunately

should’ve just gone with all commander 3s lmao
Did you keep the old alarms?
I bet these will last a Loooooong time. Sad to see the Old Alarms go but These New ones are more up to code.
How are they any more up to code?
This way, the strobes and horns are synchronized. It's not up to code if the system isn't in sync.
LED's arent meant to flash all the time in a fire alarm, so I bet they wont last more than 10 years
@@Warp2090 They will certainly last much longer than xenon strobes.
@@aerhardt no they wont lol
I want to here test new alarm
The commanders or the spectralerts is not In the building
They need to be tested
Next time, get a camcorder with an SD card. (1 TB of storage for the SD card)
I wish I got a spectralert classic =( its like 6900 baht in Thailand .....
Are you gonna sell the Classics?
Or use them for the next system test?
Personally, I don't think the L series LED horn/strobes look good. I like the normal L series better.
I agree with u

It’s a life-safety device! Looks are irrelevant. Most people won’t even notice them when they are not sounding.

That’s not to code tho.
That and old AC powered horns, like Simplex 4050s, and edwards adaptahorns.
I don’t like the LED
The led l series sucks (in my opinion)
