Last one they can just attack your top foot and make you open up so to counter that (only if your already an elite defender) cross your feet over instead of sliding if you get beat a bit
Crossing your feet isn't the best option because when you do open yourself up and cross your feet that's when the best ankle breakers happen. The offense has you shuffling to one side crossing over your feet so when they switch directions fast you can barely recover
@bobiobeal4260 offense always has advantage. People are required nowadays to cross feet. Shuffling doesn't work anymore due to increased athleticism. Crossing is almost required now.
The cross-foot is an optional move; it's dependent on your opponent. That's why I always start locking down a player in a second-round game. In the first game, I've studied his movements and let him execute his BAG moves, footwork, offhand, and strong hand.
Defensive tips, right handed shooters contest with your left hand, opposite for lefties, count dribbles makes stealing the ball easier, reach when the ball is otw down, always force players to use there weak/off hand
Im ngl on that last one it leaves your top foot vunerable the first stance you showed is perfect for a zone defense because it allows you to shift side to side. And also that first one should only be used in drop coverage as if u know the player can only shoot the midrange and drive dont give him 2 points of attack
In the last one, my coach used it before. We were doing 3v3 match ups to help us communicate and connect with each other, and the winners get to fight the coach. My teammate was on the wing and both the elbows were occupied. Only the corner was exposed, so my coach used that stance to bait him and get the ball since dribbling to the baseline was a tough task but it my teammate goes to the free throw line.
Do not do the last one bc the defender can attack your top foot side and if you try to turn your hips you will either fall, get beat, or get countered, 2 weeks ago I took a kids ankles bc his feet were angled and he wanted me to go right so I hit an in and out with my right hand and whipped a cross to the left he tried to turn his hips and he fell
if your doing the last one it works when youre up into them physical take away one side of them and force them into gap defense or a tough angle around the basket
Not true. He's still dictating where he wants him to go but smart and quick enough to know if he attacks his front foot to open up his hips and cut him off. It's really not that hard. Play smart....
BRO i forget to comment on your videos but like omg thank you so much i am going in to 9th grade and i played JV A team last year as a 8th grade and i am playing most likely varsity next year all because of u and your tips also watching a shit ton of film and practicing 5-6 hours a day and recovering very good i dream of going D1 and i go to camps and tournaments and have been contacted by a D3 school they contacted my parents but can’t do anything because i am going to be a freshman but thanks so much man
@@Jay-tx2wz get some reps in and watch a ton of film. go to your local y and join in some runs. you’re going to be terrible for the first few months but it doesn’t matter; you’re fighting time and need the repetitions. don’t worry about your handle. you can get shifty later. for now, just focus on three level scoring, ie the 3ball, middies, and finishing. hustle hard and get conditioned quickly. there’s certain skills that pair well together, like 3 and d, which provides all of scoring, defense, and spacing. if you’re trying to make a team or get playing time quickly, mastering those skills will make you a valuable roleplayer. in the long run, you’re going to need to add some moves to your bag and develop the rest of your skills as well. good luck man.
@@ChadBeetle thank you I’m jus barely 6’ barefoot and I’m having trouble getting to the rim and finishing, is there any film u think I should watch? also I’ve been working on my shot and I’ve improved , I’m going to have to be a guard so I’ve still been working on the handle as it will help me with playmaking
@@Jay-tx2wz for personal study, watch the 2022 finals. then watch the series breaking down each game of those finals by the channel “thinking basketball.” i would strongly recommend watching a ton of their content. it won’t tell you how they do it but why. it’s helped me a ton with navigating simple plays that a guard needs to have down pat (especially the pick n roll and it’s variations). as for getting to the rim and finishing: i’m 5’8”, and from my experience, spin moves have a much higher payoff at that level than crossovers. combine a basic cross with a hesi into spin and bankshot, and you’ll get past a ton of defenders. if you’re a point guard, you’re probably not catching passes on backcuts to the rim, so those moves are very useful to have in your bag. if you’re a 2guard, you should still learn those moves, but it’s much more consistent to cut, catch, and rack it. my b if i’m writing too much bro. i started playing late and those are the tips that helped me through that first year.
Youre forcing me right im going right by you. Or do a quick behind the back cross to my left and youre cooked. No way you recover. You would have to turn your whole body. Instead of leaning leaning to one side, square up to the offensive player just take a step to your left (or right) and force him one way while still being squared up. Defenders freeze with that type of defense. Point guards will walk up to half court and just pass the ball
How to beat each one 1. Snatch move/ sudden change of pace 2.blow by ( if they try to over commit on a pick pocket) 3. Attack the top foot & drive in a straight line
Defense is the best offense because if you can defend well you will get lots of easy buckets on the other side of the courts and you can break the other team down
The first one you have to be careful with because if they snatch back, then expect to end up on a highlight reel. Also, observe your opponents tendencies and see what moves they like to use to set up a drive. Doing this annoys them because you don’t fall for their fakes
With the defensive stance the offensive player could rip threw with their arms and get you a foul. Put your arms wide so they don’t have much space to move except for a pass
I don’t angle my body to bait people into thinking I don’t know what I’m doing then trap them and force them into a shot they don’t want to take and if it’s a pass it’s mine ☺️
Proud lock down defender no one can score on me at school and since I’m taller than mostly everyone I just put my hand up and jump then throw it in the hoop I’m trying to be a center for my school next year
I would suggest play straight up and move your feet. When guarding push step instead of slide and be vicious with your hands. Should be bouncing and taking away every angle they want to take. If you need examples look at GP, pat bev, MJ or Kobe

Defense is an underrated art
100%
Attacking gives you chances. Defending gives you trophies.

in the last one it only works if your playing up on them take away one side and force them into help or a tough angle around the basket
Not if you angle them away from a crowded spot

I think I understand why they highlight the importance of mastering both hands
Go for the steal right after the ball hits the ground
Meh its reliable but it depends ngl
I'm a lockdown already, but i love learning tips.

The “go right by them” and the look made me
Laugh so bad
bro this is actually a tuff video very basic yet great tips for the court that not a lot of defenders use great video bro

Good Footwork is key to good defense.
Bro still threw in one Offensive tip at the end 😂😂 a true Guard lol

that's why you gotta have good awareness and dont move lol.
That’s why I can’t be guard😈😈😈😈
its smart to take away their strong side tho.. force them opposite.

I play against a lot of good ball handlers so i learn how to take the cross and still be able to beat them to the spot
Last one is best tho when ur tall

finally someone who posts defense tips💀
The third one gives them an open passing lane and what are you going to do when they can go both ways
Defense is the best offense because if you can defend well you will get lots of easy buckets on the other side of the courts and you can break the other team down
Thnks❤
Thanks
Im gonna use this tip for the game that im going to in, 6 minutes later, ill keep you updated

Thx
Noted, I will try next game
I remember in 7th grade I signed up for Basketball Exploratories, all the 8th grade guys called me 'lockdown defender'
1 is sort bad because if the offense notices you used to doing that your getting crossed immediately
thank u love from India
Came here cause I got my ankles broken so hard that my right calf hurts when I walk.
thanks man..
Can uxtell me as a 5'6 person how to do behind the back and between the legs? Tryouts for my school in three months. I only know how to dribble
Work on ur basic crossovers first, get then low below the knees, hard and wide. Then focus on tweens and behinds
Good
Thanks I got a game on Sunday
bro i locked-down without training or this vid before i never got shake off

I literally did this not even the school basketball capt get through me

I think being a good defender is knowing your opponents tendencies.. otherwise its pretty much a gamble
Y’all saying the last one don’t work yet nba players literally do it…
I go much lower im more comfortable and my balance is amazing when im low and im much faster
im a lock down defender normally im normally a pf

If you cant beat them, join them😢
Do not do any of these you have to know the player you’re guarding this only works in middle school ball
If they attack your top foot you just fix your hip
2 tip will make you get nutmeg
If the defender go to his right he can pass easy
Find the person’s weakness
Last one isn’t good because you will just get crossed through the legs and if you’re not fast enough it’s an easy layup
That’s why you keep one hand low and one hand high, so if they try a nutmeg, you’ll just grab it.
@@nairda4668 thanks for the tip
@@nairda4668or if they nutmeg just don’t turn around cut him off from the ball
You can also just foul them
Bro … pls pls give us a tip on how to lockdown hesi player… I’m so tired of it😢
Watch the hips. As long as you're able to match their hip movement they can only shake you through pure speed.

Watch hips, get quicker feet. In post use your body not you arms
"beat them there" 💀
