You should check out the What Youth videos, they've got guys like Curren Caples or Austyn Gillete basically talking about their stuff in this kind of way, they're pretty mellow
I love hearing stories like these. I myself am a musician but have loved skating my entire life as well. It is inspiring to see guys like this having found their balance. Im still finding my way...
I clicked on this kinda indifferent, not because i dont like Gilbert, quite the opposite - I like his skating so purely that i didn't want to potentially taint it with any knowledge of who he was - i wanted the skating to stand alone. Man i'm glad I did, Gilbert seems right down my alley. (I never pursued sponsors but have always skated (and tried to progress) and yeah music) What a rad dude. Bulk respect to this guy, wish there was more like him in the professional landscape, representing the truest virtues of skateboarding
Inspiring AF🔥🙏 def puts perspective on life in general-skating is The Divine blessing. Thx Gilbert on letting us see it thru yr eyes and Thrasher for putting this out there much love🛹❤️👊
I randomly roadtripped thru richmond virginia one afternoon in spring of 1998 and i skated downtown. I remember driving thru and totally losing my shit at the sight of nearly untouched marble/granite plaza after plaza and all before skatestopping. I clearly recall thinking some day this area is gonna produce some serious talent..
That’s awesome that the stuff you wear influences your skating cause I have always had to love what I’m wearing to get my vibe at maximum level! Both me and my brother are like that cause a big thing for me is style in your skating! Like what your style of clothes are tends to bring out your style on the board and I would rather see someone with style do a simple trick rather then someone with no style do the most tech shit ever! My style refers a lot to when I started skating and not many dress like it anymore but everyone grows and figured out what they like!!!
I feel you dude, I wish skate companies (at least a few) still made things the way they did 10 years ago. The new style ain't for everybody, that's for sure. Peace man, keep on skating.✌
could of easily watched 30 more minutes of this
word for word what I was gonna comment. this was just real talk. so refreshing.

All I can say is this guy is REAL as hell. Stay true people.
I haven't skated in over 10 years because I'm getting up there in age and life is hectic but I will always treasure being a part of this community.

You're not the only one, brother.
Music and skating it's only good of you make money.
same man, I love this kind of broad stuff where skating is put in a broader context- this is the way it sits in my life, as a non-professional!
I ended up meeting Gilbert today in Richmond and man, what a guy. One of my biggest inspirations for getting into skating in the first place
