Emailed him in highschool in 2008 and he responded. We chatted back and forth for a bit about photography. Great guy. Thank you Atiba, still shoot skating to this day.
Dude I did the same thing for my photography class! I did a report on him and asked if I had permission to use some of his photos for my presentation, super nice dude.
Met Atiba backstage with Turnstile in Portland a few years back. Nobody backstage with me knew who he was, I approached him and told him how big of a fan I was, that growing up I had so many of his pics on my wall etc..he was the nicest guy, and we talked old school post hard-core ( quicksand, orange 9mm) and he was just the coolest. He even took a picture of me and my homie with Turnstile..so I'm lucky enough to say I got my Pic taken by Atiba!! Again nicest guy out there. So important for skateboarding past /present and future!
Watching this was awesome. The late 80’s to late 90’s was my era of skateboarding. This reminds me of how authentic that era was. And how cool all these guys are. They stuck in it for so long and have five so good.
I remember seeing Atiba photos so much as a kid, that I didn’t realize he was a person. I thought it was just an add. What an amazing contribution to skating.
For someone like me who’s never heard of this man, this documentary captured (pun intended) his overwhelming impact on the culture. Welcome back, Vice-we’ve missed you tremendously!
the section about chomp on this brought a tear to my eye. I was a teenager when that came out. I had no idea what i was watching. The backstory is incredible. This made me happy.
This brought back a lot of good memories. I wanted to be a professional photographer/filmer like Atiba when I was in high school. Had my all my gear stolen twice which pretty much crushed that dream. But before that happened I managed to get two of my photos in Thrasher’s Photograffiti and was beyond stoked to have something published in the same magazine with all these dudes I looked up to. 🙌🏽 Thank you Atiba and thank you skateboarding. Also, Chomp on This is one of my favorite skate videos and I still have it on VHS.
I'm a skateboarding photographer in my home country Nicaragua. Atiba has been one of my most influencial photographer in my photography, skateboarding wise. More photographers and videographers please from skateboarding. LOVED this episode! Greetings from Nicaragua
this is awesome, for someone thats still trying to find the lan in photography always have looked up to atiba. shouts out to patrick for making this come to life!!
I remember him and his brother and the Colorado Springs crew skaters would come and skate with the Denver crew skaters every weekend. Fun times. Jamaica Jims and all that. So awesome he made it so big in filming. I live in LA now as well and saw him crossing the street random in Hollywood one time and shouted his name. He waived his hand and was probably like who the heck is that and don't think he.even remembered me but that's ok. Shout out to him and his brother. They were always fun to skate with and super cool. Fun times and good memories. Colorado represent!
Dope episode. Do one on Ocean Howell, or Satva Leung. Mysterious dudes we liked back in the days. Ocean skated to Cocteau Twins back in the days, so respect to him for that.
An Amazing and super valuable story to Hear for every of us that who dream, thanks to all the team at VICE, and everyone involved in this project for making it possible and sharing it with us 💎
Chomp was awesome! As someone who has always been in love with skateboarding, but never got good, it pumped me up to see these filmers just having fun. And they werent terrible. The video was fun, funny and had great editing. Also Jaime skating to Master P was the best.
I was subscribed to Transworld, Thrasher, and the Skateboard Mag for at LEAST 5 years each throughout my adolescence. I wonder how many hundreds of epic Atiba shots I've been graced with over the years...
This is dope i remember Atiba. The first time I heard of this guy was when we had to do those photo challengers for Mag in Skate 3 and if you beat all of them you unlocked him as a playable character ❤
Wow, thanks, I like this! I remember early 2000 at a demo in Stockholm. I went there to see my favorite skaters PJ Ladd and Eric Koston but when I got there I saw that Atiba was there taking photos. Haha, I probably watched him photograph more than the skating. When I left I ended up next to Koston and Atiba who were on their way to the tour bus. Totally star struck, of course I didn't dare to talk to them, but I was insanely happy to have walked a couple of hundred meters next to them. 😀
True story, I shook Atiba Jefferson’s hand at Sound & Fury 2023 during Kommand’s set, we were both wearing Versace and in my head I was like “yo, no fucking way that’s Teebs, here at S&F!”
It's 6am here in the LBC... I'm watching this mini doc and realizing how influential Atiba was/is. I grew up on the east coast where the skate culture was a lot different, but I'd often see his pics not knowing who he was. In the late 90s I recall some of the dudes saying "Oh yeah, that's an Atiba flick." Of course, I'm all "What's Atiba? Is it a new board company?" HA! Well, this documentary is bringing things full circle for me. Oh... And the dude played "So What" by Miles Davis on the piano! Dope! Thanks VICE for making this!
I would always see that guy in LA at Cha Cha Lounge along a lot of great legends in skateboarding like Nuge. Finally got to say whatsup and he seems just like a true genuine person. Super talented photographer. Much respect.
Such a must needed interview! I’ve always wanted to meet him and pick his brain. This will obviously be the closest to that happening! Love that this series is rollin!
That was amazing, saw him in a lot of IC videos without knowing his background story. This guy is a legend !! So is Davonte Jolly (btw i hope he'll also have his own video)

Jake darwen please
@@shnutzgangyou still on this page? Haven’t been paying much attention in the past year eh? Yawn
We need King of the Road back again 😮
If I stick to cool stuff like this... maybe they will make a comeback. Maybe drop the politics?
Emailed him in highschool in 2008 and he responded. We chatted back and forth for a bit about photography. Great guy. Thank you Atiba, still shoot skating to this day.
where can we see your photos
Dude I did the same thing for my photography class! I did a report on him and asked if I had permission to use some of his photos for my presentation, super nice dude.
That's so dope!!
Overdue and well earned for the legend

in tears cause, me and my brother grew up with all these pics and videos. he died in 2021, so this brought up so many memories

Sic story
Atiba is the perfect example of how being genuine and humble can open so many doors for you.
He's actually a great example of how far you can get by choosing a professional field that requires no talent.

Watching this was awesome. The late 80’s to late 90’s was my era of skateboarding. This reminds me of how authentic that era was. And how cool all these guys are. They stuck in it for so long and have five so good.
Atiba likes 90s hardcore, hip hop, basketball, skateboarding, art, clothing. He’s one the coolest dudes ever. Much respect.
Atiba is such a nice dude, i had the chance to photograph him a few years back and hes solid.
I remember seeing Atiba photos so much as a kid, that I didn’t realize he was a person. I thought it was just an add. What an amazing contribution to skating.
What a great doc and so well deserved for the GOAT Atiba
For someone like me who’s never heard of this man, this documentary captured (pun intended) his overwhelming impact on the culture. Welcome back, Vice-we’ve missed you tremendously!
Is this the first thing Vice put out in forever? What a way to come back.
The clip at the end where they are talking about Atiba being the slowest skater they have ever seen was hilarious. LOL
the section about chomp on this brought a tear to my eye. I was a teenager when that came out. I had no idea what i was watching. The backstory is incredible. This made me happy.
Met him in a pub in LDN, got hyped, said yes to a photo with me (I'm smiling from ear to ear). Very fond memory of mine, Thanks Atiba!
Even before i applaud this episode.. i haven't even started it yet... Legendary status. Atiba Jefferson will go down in skate history.

Living his dream, we not only watched skating, we watched it through his eyes. Crazy.
I owe a career in photography to being inspired by Atiba when I was a new skateboarder in middle school, seeing his photos in the magazines.
