TOP TIP: put the Sport model when fitting the new clip! Its lines up much better. Great video mate. I just replaced my exhaust clip 5 days ago. You don’t need to get a new actuator, just put it in sports Mode. Another tip if you can raise the car 5cm it makes things much easier. This is one of those jobs that take or 5min or 1 hour. Luckily the clip is only 8 euro. Cheers!
I'm having the same issue in regard to lining up. I did put mine is sport mode but still doesn't seem to work. I am reading about cold start. Do you have an other tips in regard to sport mode. Do i switch it on from cold, put into sports mode. Then turn off the engine and unplug? I'm reading something like this. Or is there another way? Thanks
Unfortunately with mine the actuator slipped out so I couldn't line it up. People say to put it in sports mode etc but it doesn't always work. I had to replace the actuator and when I did it fitted straight in and problem solved. Easy solution is new actuator or you can try other trouble shooting tips, for me none worked, actuator was screwed
Hey Gaz, Great video. Well done for the detailed camera work too. My M140i developed the rattle about 6 months into ownership from new. At that time BMW had stopped offering the M Performance exhaust fit and sorted the rattle issue by a software map (basically higher revs from a cold start for the first 15-20 secs) as mine only rattled from cold start. All the best mate and thanks again. Brett.
Thankyou. I absolutely love the car. Been looking at a 340i estate as another second car lol as need more room as looking to get a dog and no chance I'm getting one in the m140 lol
It was the broken clip making the most noise but also if the clip is removed the exhaust valve still moves so rattles... before I changed the actuator I put the clip in to make the valve stay open which stops it rattling. Some people put a weld spot on the valve/exhaust flap while its open to keep it open but I wanted to keep mine as it was

Quite a straight forward job fortunately, my actuator started making a grinding noise and it wouldnt spin so looked like the mechanism ended up nakerd

Hi mate is it the broken clip its self that causes the rattle? Could you just remove the clip to stop the rattle and have the valves left open?
