Like I said before, I’m not really disciplined about carrying a knife and I don’t really pay that much attention to them, but the SOG KIKU XR Knife changed that for me, and here’s why.
I wish I could give a highly technical review about this knife but I don’t know enough about knives to do that. I just know what I like and what I don’t, and I really like this knife.
Here are the 2 Versions of the KIKU XR Knife:
    SOG KIKU XR - Blackout
    www.mrcolionno...
    SOG KIKU XR - Satin
    www.mrcolionno...
I’ll be honest, if saw the SOG KIKU XR laying in the dirt I’d think it was a fossil before I thought it was a knife.
The handle looks like SOG raided a Dinosaur museum and turned the shells of the sea turtle fossils into a knife. I’m not usually a fan of this type of prehistoric aesthetic but in the case of the SOG KIKU XR, it just works.
The shape and the lines of the handle subtly call out to you, “Hold me, grab me, touch me, squeeze me" especially in black!
Even the blade has a visually appealing shape to it, but it’s the compound grind lines on the blade that make it look really sexy.
The blade is made of CTS XHP steel which means the blade has a high hardness, highly effective at resisting corrosion, and will hold its edge. I haven’t used it enough to see deterioration on the edge, but I’ve used this knife more than any of my other knives so I'm sure I’ll learn how well it maintains its edge.
That being said, every person I’ve shown this knife to comments on how good it looks. Even people who aren’t even into knives.
There’s an elegant ruggedness about this knife that allows it to play double duty as a dedicated outdoor knife and an everyday carry city knife of sorts. It’s not a small knife by any stretch of the imagination, it’s more of a goldie locks knife.
Small enough to carry every day, but big enough to handle the rigors of the wild. At least what I consider wild. It’s just right.
For a knife of this size, the ergonomics are great. The texture and the shape of the knife allow me to get a really confident grip of the knife where it almost feels like it’s a full-sized knife. This makes cutting, slashing, stabbing, and slicing a cakewalk for a knife this size.
I thought the way the SOG Ultra XR opened and closed was satisfying. That knife feels like sandpaper compared to how smooth the SOG Kiku XR opens and closes. However, the thumbhole leaves a little to be desired.
It’s passable but it’s not as fluid use as using the XR lock and the Kick assist. I’m also not a fan of the clip. Functionally it works great, but I’m not a fan of the looks.
I think it cheapens the look of the knife ever so slightly. It’s by no means a deal-breaker for me but I can’t help but think there’s a better option for a clip that has the same functional quality while having a better form.
Other than that, this knife has grown on me like that one night stand that turned into your wife or husband.
It’s definitely heavier than the SOG Ultra XR, but in the real world, I really don’t notice the weight. It’s more robust than it is heavy and the profile of the knife doesn’t take up too much space in my pocket.
I still prefer to carry the SOG Ultra XR on a daily basis, but once I leave the confines of the city and go into nature, the SOG KIKU XR as it stands right now will be my go-to knife.
As I said, I’m not a Knife Guy and I have other knives that I like, but they’re more form than function.
The SOG KIKU XR on the other hand marries the two in such a way that it caused me to develop an appreciation for knives in a manner that I never thought I would.

Best knife I've ever owned.. Bought as a novelty, but soon found myself using it as my edc. The different angles of the convex and concave edges lend themselves perfectly to different roles. I use the sharper concave edge as a quick slicer for packaging tape, zip ties, etc.. It also gets use for for finer work like shaving adjustments for hammer and axe handles. I use the convex broader part of the blade for scoring, skinning, and general rough use. I didn't expect this knife to be anything more than a collectible, but it has surprised me and become my favorite edc

So I bought it and then started looking up some reviews on it and I remember that you did a review on it so I think that's why I called out to me. So just want to thank you for your video. He also taught me all about hunting and fishing and reloading etc. I've always been a knife and gun and anything outdoors enthusiast. I've collected a lot of knives over the fifty odd years since he gave me my first one. I just received my SOG Kiku XR in the mail today and so far I've gotta say it's my favorite addition to my collection so far.

As a custom knife maker... I'm glad to see you developing a real enjoyment of different types.
That grind type is referred to as a "compound grind" aka "the nightmare grind" to custom makers due to the complexity of it. It's a hollow grind married to a flat or convex grind.

Careful with SOG and Spyderco, always check the alloys they are using in their knives. They are good companies, but sometimes charge a lot of money for sub-par metals in their blades. I was shocked at the lack of quality steels being used in some of both companies more expensive models(i guess its style over function for some).

S35VN steel and made in the USA are hard to beat. The Kikus are great too. I have the large and the small fixed blades and they’ve served me well thus far.

I grew up in the country I carried a knife since I was 5 years old. You always needed it to do something every single day! I personally prefer a belt knife to a pocket knife. I like the old cowboy knives with a brass pommel on the end and a 6in blade with a flat back. I can pound in nails and other things with the pommel use the back of the blade as a screwdriver use the blade as a pry bar a d a lot more stuff than you can do with a pocket knife. The only thing though is you're going to spend some good money to get a good blade that will actually hold an edge

I personally now own the SOG Tac auto, the SOG Seal XR, SOG Trident and the SOG Seal FX Tanto. All have been great. High quality steel and most of what I own are made in the USA. Opening systems are smooth with solid lock up. I highly recommend them now. If you wrote SOG off like I did years ago, check them out again. I have not been disappointed with my purchases from SOG.

It's definitely one of SOG's better offerings from Taiwan ! Nice materials ,xhp is a decent steel (think stainless D2) ! The problem within the knife world with this one is the recurve ! A lot of people see that recurve and move on ! It's the sharpening that loses a lot ! You can't properly sharpen it on a flat stone , and even a lot of sharpening systems don't include a curved stone ! So you basically need a rod or stick for the hollow recurve and a flat stone for the flat forward portion ! It seems like a small issue ,but you'd be amazed how many people just take a solid pass based solely on that !

Picked up a SOG SEAL XR two months ago and it hasn’t left my pocket. It’s a bigger and beefier knife with it’s 3.9 inch blade and thick blade stock. Love the action with it’s 3 modes of opening; kick, hole and xr lock. It just flies open and closes easily one handed. I think it’s the fastest knife I own, and I’ve got quite a few including a PROTECH TR5. Rock solid when open, perfectly centered with tight tolerances.
I’m seriously looking for an excuse to pick up the KIKU XR also with it’s smaller size for edc.

As a blade maker I agree, I'm not a fan of that pocket clip. It could be half the size and slimmer in it's profile and yet remain highly effective as a clip to prevent loss by keeping a tight hold yet still grant ease of use.

SOG is trying to get back in the game as far as quality and materials. I'm a gun and knife guy, and I've avoided SOG like the plague for a while. Overpriced, poor qc, and bad designs.
Got a Pillar a little while back, and was impressed. Good materials, price point was right. Sheath needs a little work, but they've got me interested again.

You should look into an Axis lock Benchmade, hate me for saying it haha but they are smooth. The 940 Osbourne is less than 3oz. And that XR Ultra is something I own and carry on a regular which is 1.2oz so I understand. And the Benchmades have a TON of aftermarket parts so you can customize it to your liking, I see you like personalizing some things. Food for thought. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@ColionNoir You should check out the Kershaw Auto Launch 12. It's light, fast, and durable. Perfect for an edc knife. Now if I was wanting a good Knife to take out to the woods. I would go with a smaller Ka-Bar fixed blade full tang that is modeled after the original just a little smaller. It cuts down on weight just a little, but you still have a really well made knife that handles just about anything you throw at it.

I carry a knife along with my fire arm everyday and everywhere. Here are a couple I use more often than others.Benchmade (I have not purchased after the allowing police to destroy firearms event but still have a few, Kershaw as well as Spyderco. As I said the correct tool for each job. When I’m the city and dressed for business, I carry a folder on the med to small size on inside of my belt. Jeans and a shirt around town I will carry a med to larger folder or a side held fixed on small of my back. The folder is on inside of left pocket. Out around the open or out shooting prefer a large to med fixed blade straight edge with serrations or a Tanto also with serrations. I can go on but you get the point.

The ColdSteel ProLite "Tanto" is a great straight edged knife. German 4116 steel, it holds it's edge like no other knife I've ever owned. All for under $25. Before this knife came along, I've only carried fully serrated Spyderco Enduras for the last 20 years.
Don't get me wrong...the fully serrated Endura would be my SHTF EDC. Until then, this is a fantastic EDC, that I won't get all bent out of shape over, should I lose it, or break it.
Btw...fyi to all, both of the knives I've just mentioned are "lock back" knives, and both also have the "pocket clip" mount, on the blade's "tip end" side of the scales, as opposed to being mounted on the hinge end. Why is this important? For me, this means that if my left arm is otherwise engaged, I can pull the knife up and out with my right hand (based on it's position in my pant's pocket), and open it in one fluid motion. You simply cannot do that, if the pocket clip is on the hinged side of the knife. You would have to flip the knife over in your hand. Not easily done, if you are being attacked by an aggressive, powerful dog, for example. You "sacrifice" your weaker arm to the animal, (to protect your throat), while drawing, opening, and dispatching it, with your free arm. Dogs don't F around once they lock on. Yes, you will likely suffer multiple punctures, and/or broken/crushed bones in your arm, but you won't lose control of your knife while trying to get it flipped for one handed open. Especially while being jerked around, like a rag doll, chew toy.

I don't generally do reviews of beer. I was given one once at a party. I drank it. It quenched my thirst. It lightened my mood. So I bought a 6 pack of Banquet on the way home from work one evening, to drink while mowing the lawn. So when Coors reached out and sent me a 10 wheeler load of their Banquet beer and asked me to blog the emotions that arrive as I enjoy them, I was a bit uneasy as beer is not my wheelhouse. Adolf Coors must have been delivered the recipe by the Archangel Gabriel. The grain bill is certainly not a single malt. The wort is bready and more complex than the other's in the market with a subtle hop application as to compliment the wort. not overpower it. The aroma is as subtle as the bite on the hop presence. The golden color and clarity of the finished beer is refined. Transparent and Gold like a pair of Wayfarer's lenses, yet signaling to the viewer that it's flavor will deliver satisfaction comparable to it's clarity. This is the beer that changed my perspective on carry beers.
