A combination of things have slowed you. 1. Pack weight. Definitely your heavy bag is costing you and you could absolutely have a down bag or quilt without it getting wet if we talk about your tent. Once you have a well-functioning tent that fits your height, you won't have to worry about your bag (or quilt) getting wet. Of course you will want to keep that down bag or quilt (and other clothes) in a waterproof bag(s) inside your pack. 2. You probably have a few items you don't need in your backpack. You certainly did when starting out but I think you dropped a lot of those already. 3. Your feet. They haven't had a chance to fully heal. 4. You are worn out and have lost weight. All the above can be remedied by getting off trail for a bit, eating a lot and allowing your body to rest and recuperate! Then, refreshed, you will go back and finish 👍!
we all need friends like a frizzle and nickels in our lives! 😀 a frizzle hostel and a nickels waiting with an icecream at the end of a hard day! good friends
You three are really heading up the trail!!! New Hampshire is on the horizon!! Congratulations to all three of you. After 1700 miles of topping out over every hill and mountain the trail challenges you with, you guys are awesome hikers, and high achievers!!! Keep on keeping on you three!
Hooray Nickels🎉 such a great guy for thinking about getting your favorite ice cream. And so nice of Frizzle and her family for being great hosts❤ I must have missed this video when it first was posted. But was great to see it as we wait for your return to the AT. Remember to embrace the journey and happy trails ❤ ✌️🫶🤜🤛
The 4lb bag does sound a bit heavy (though the synthetic one I was considering is 2.8) but you got what you could afford at the time... I'm sure if you continue doing long hikes, you'll make some changes. Aaaaahhh... that was sweet of Nickels to get you ice cream...a 100,000 bonus points for him. Happy Trails! 👟🎒🗻🪨⛺️🌲🍦💚🥾
My synthetic Enlightened Equipment Enigma APEX Custom Quilt weighs in at 26.55oz/ 1.659 lbs. You can customize it- color, deneer, etc. it is pricey but sooooo worth it. You are doing phenomenally well. Your singing (especially Twinkle, Twinkle Mountainside) is refreshing to listen to. 🎶 Northward bound- Embrace the journey and Happy Trails Stick the Eagle 🥾
@@sticktheeagle it’s a 20 degree without a hood. The lowest temperature I’ve slept in it has been 34 degrees and I was toasty all night long (I have a therm-a-rest-neoair-xlite-nxt-sleeping-pad short (R 4.5). Hope this is helpful.
Awesome to see the Eastern Terminus of the NCT! I’ve been to the Western Terminus in North Dakota at Lake Sakakawea State Park and have hiked hundreds of miles of the trail in ND MN WI and MI hope to get to the other end in Vermont someday! You Frizzle and Nickels are my favorite trio on the AT!!! Happy Trails🌲
I laugh every time the dragon fly makes an appearance. The section of trail from The Lookout to NH is one of my favorites (except for the PUDs), glad you enjoyed it. You were supposed to cowboy camp on the roof platform!
Not sure cowboy camping would have been great given the rain that night. But I may go back there for some great views and a sunset or something. It is a beautiful section.
For what it is worth: 1; a good pack to keep everything dry. 2; a good tent to keep you & gear dry. 3; a good sleep bag/quilt to keep you warm. After 1 & 2 the bag/quilt will (mostly) be kept dry by them even if it is down.
Sing any time. I met you at Woody Gap when the group I was with, including KatWoman Hikes, provided trail magic. I pop in every once in a while. I thought you were stopping sometime in June for a summer job. I'm happy to see you hiking on! And your pack send much lighter than when you started out
It’s 11 pounds lighter than it was at Woody Gap! Wow, I met you way back in February. Sometimes that feels like eons ago, and sometimes it feels like yesterday.
My current bag is down, but it is hydrophobic down like DriDown so it can get somewhat wet. You might look into that option. Also, I love 💗 your singing! Another reason you may be slower than Frizzle or Nickels is that you are spending a lot of time making videos and they are not! So glad that you all beat the rain and have a nice place to wait it out!
Hey Stick , I thought that hazy view was kinda nice with the haze, added a special dimension for me I guess. Running marathons huh? You’re a pretty accomplished man of adventure and of healthy spiritual growth, so much to be grateful for- a life lived to the fullest! Stay blessed my brother- as well as those other two hiking machines-ha! Happy Trails! 🏃♀️🍄🚴🏼♂️🧘🏼🌱🌿🍀🙏🌲
Twinkle, twinkle little trail Fog and sleet and snow and hail. Bugs and gnats and ticks and flies Oh I hope my backpack dries. Nickles up ahead with Frizzle While I'm slogging through the drizzle.
First, you could get a dyneema tent ( under 20 oz) so you keep your bag dry from the rain, then perhaps get a light down quilt (also under 30oz). Also, a 30 oz pack helps (eg a Durston). As the saying goes, ounces = pounds, pounds = pain. These are just examples to ponder on and of course cost more money.
Love my Therm-a-Rest Corus 20 Quilt I highly recommend… it hasn’t let me down (no pun intended) easy to care for as well. 650-fill-power Nikwax® Hydrophobic Down™ absorbs 90% less water and dries 3 times faster than regular down without using dangerous PFCs Shell fabric also has a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment to help moisture bead up on the surface Compact and designed to easily fit into your pack Backpacking Temperature Rating (F) 20 degrees (F) Temperature Rating (C) -6 degrees (C) Weight Regular: 1 lb. 10 oz. So I have a question. When you return to the trail after camp, will Frizzle and Nickles travel to meet you at Katadin? It’s sad you can’t do it together
A combination of things have slowed you.

Very good points!! I think the feet and being worn out and having lost weight are definitely prominent factors.
Don’t forget your filming to that will slow you down to.
You couldn't ask for more truer friends than Nickles and Frizzell ❤❤❤
we all need friends like a frizzle and nickels in our lives! 😀 a frizzle hostel and a nickels waiting with an icecream at the end of a hard day! good friends
Your friends are awesome. Tell em we said so.😊
I love that you go at your own pace. That's a good lesson for all of us. This entire life journey is a single walk with God.
Yes!! So glad others can apply it too.

😂😂😂 love the songs 🎵
Both hunny and I are giggling ❤
Glad you got some of your favorite ice cream. Safe travels.
Love your spontaneous song Stick!
So fun watching you three!

Yes, I agree with giving him all those bonus points!! And yes, I will most definitely be making changes as I hike more.

Beautiful!! Thanks for the recommendation. What temperature rating is that one?

So cool!! Maybe I will have the opportunity to hike it some day!!

Plus it can be in its own dry bag in the pack I imagine. I have learned so much on this adventure!

True true…. The videos do make me stop walking or slow down to capture something. But I like taking in those moments so it’s a blessing.

That is my goal!! Live life to the fullest. Seeing the world and embracing every experience is doing that for me.

Haha you could be a song writer!! That is great!!
Thanks for the sleeping bag note. I just bought a synthetic one for my hike at 4+ pounds. I’ll probably have to get a down one instead 😭
I do love my synthetic even though it is four pounds, and it has saved me on those wet days. To me, it was worth it when I couldn’t rely on my tent.

I got what I could afford then, but if I have some time before my next trip I now know a lot more and will come more prepared. Thanks.
And you rocked and are rocking with your gear selection. Those were just generalized suggestions. Happy trails!👏
How long did it take for Nickles' Hyperlite backpack to turn that tan color?
It might have been tan all along? Not sure.
Love my

Hello to the 3 of you. Enjoyed ya’lls hike (yes I am from the south). Is your trail name in reference to be an Eagle Scout?
Yes it is!!
The Bible says to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. 😊❤
Amen!
So I have a question. When you return to the trail after camp, will Frizzle and Nickles travel to meet you at Katadin? It’s sad you can’t do it together
Not sure. Remains to be seen!
Trying to figure how much 3 leaf poison ivy is on trail. The 5 leaf you see a bit more as vines.
It’s definitely around. I’m glad I don’t get reactions to it so I don’t worry about it so much.
You are older than Frizzle and Nichols? You seem to be the same age.
Older by a few years.
