@@tauntonleisure In real world conditions I have not noticed any difference in lighter weight jackets compared to heavier versions, I have a Berghaus Mera Peak that is around 20 years old that I wear on a daily basis in the autumn and winter and it doesn't feel any lighter in use than my 6 year old Berghaus Cornice Long despite the Mera Peak weighing more, also prefer the press stud storm flaps to velcro versions for long term durability.
I have gone back to old fashioned non breathable rainwear. I'll change my fleece if I sweat. I still have Goretex jackets and over trousers for around tow
Outer fabric wetting out doesn't mean that the goretex membrane in the middle is no longer waterproof. It simply means that the DWR coating on the outside is no longer beading water like brand new.
The minimum rating for Gore-tex is 20,000HH when the jacket is new and 30,000HH for Gore-tex Pro. When you say competition are you talking about other waterproof membranes like Pertex and H2NO? Or modern Gore-Tex vs. original Gore-Tex
Gore tex jackets eventually wet out, washing and retreating them can make them last longer but they are not 100% waterproof. The only material that is 100% waterproof isn't breathable and isn't used in outdoor clothing
This stuff is so much easier to understand when someone explains it to you! :-)
As good an overview as there is on the internet…well done. 👍
Thank you, we really appreciate the positive feedback!
Awesome review, very clear.
We are glad it was helpful!
Excellent video explaining Gore-Tex, thank you for putting the effort in.

How high is the waterproofing of these jackets in millimetres?
How does the competition perform in comparison to original GoreTex?
