only series where my local comic shop actually bagged the entire series and sold it as a bundle at like 75% off like the day after it ended and still didn't sell it.
Convergence was weird because despite being a huge, continuity-laden story, it was written by Jeff King, who hadn't written any comics before. And considering the reveal that Telos was actually Arak, Son of Thunder, I think King is just a big Warlord fan, so he put all that into Convergence.
Also for people that want to read the "Golden Age" of Post-Crisis Superman i suggest to read since "Exile" (1988) trhought "The Fall of Metropolis" (1994). Not saying that all that came afterward was bad, but it never got to that quality again until Rebirth.
***** The whole Busiek/Johns era Post-Infinite Crisis and before New Krypton is pretty great in general, Camelot Falls was the business back in the day.
Stopping the original Crisis would cause so many kinks in the overall timeline of the multiverse, it would bend over itself backwards to the point it becomes a ouroborous style singularity, yet they had the gall to not show anything from the event itself?!
This one is one of my favorite episodes. Just seeing Ethan and Ben's brains melt with all the nonsensical BS in this book. I always get a good chuckle out of it.
Thanks for doing Convergence. It was so confusing when I was reading the series. Not that the Back Issues version wasn't any less confusing, but it was way more entertaining. BTW checked publications dates. Convergence #0 was April 2015 and Rebirth began in June 2016. Yup Ethan was right, that bar was set pretty darned low.
My god, I heard Convergence was terrible but I seriously had no clue just HOW bad! You guys reviewing Convergence was the first couple of videos I started watching regularly! At the time I was endlessly entertained by you guys talking about how useless the Convergence event was, but DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN its worse than you guys made it out to be! Wow! I thought you were exaggerating when you said this "EVENT" was useless! Amazing! I nearly peed myself when you mentioned "Telos, the BREAKOUT CHARACTER!" Lmao! This was so worth watching! Wow, just... wow...
Guys, thank you for this videos! Im a Marvel comic fan. I read a lot of Marvels stuff. But im really lost with DC since new 52. And I love when you cover this events that I cant read by myself because I get lost. Sorry for my english, im from Uruguay. This is one of my favourite youtube chanel and Im a huge fan of all of you! You are really nice people!
Matias Carvalho Damn man I love DC, Image, Valiant, Dark Horse, & Marvel (basically I read almost every damn thing). You gotta open up your mind & completely forget about continuity, that is my best advice lmao!
Worlds' End, Sal, the destruction of Earth 2 happened in Worlds End. It was another weekly series that ran parallel to Futures End. Worlds was better than Futures, but lethal injection is better than Futures End.
Tevya Smolka It was a real shame, I loved E2 under Robinson, but Taylor burned the whole world down. It might have been a good story, but I miss early E2.
Ian McKee believe me while personally i wasn't a fan E2 under Robinson i do understand why you liked that early E2 stories more then i did and i respect that
i remember reading this thinking what the hell is going on. it had cool parts but doesn't make up for all the stupid parts .but i definitely enjoyed watching you guys talk about it thank you
Glad I found this video before I did a stupid purchase xD Took a pause from comics after I was done with Snyder's New 52 run and some others. So I guess I'll just gonna jump into Rebirth now ^^
Multiversity was a superior version of Convergence. If it is a part of the main canon I want them to connect Multiversity with Rebirth. You can have The Empty Hand be a duplicate of Dr. Manhattan who became corrupted like Mandrakk was.
While I started getting comics when rebirth started, I actually wanted to get "Convergence: Speed Force" last year. it was the first time in 4 years that Wally West had been in a comic. I was really disappointed when I couldn't find it anywhere.
I'll just have to find it on amazon I guess. it's so weird how everywhere I went they had just about all the other tie ins EXCEPT the one I was looking for.
Ethan's haircut! I've admittedly been tuned out of Comic Pop for awhile, but after the Animated Series Pitch with Jaiwinn, the Marvel and FF fan cast, and Marvel Zombies, I'm back on board! A weird request, but could you guys do a DC fancast? Like and relay what your design for the DCU would be? In spite of the half-hazard attempt by Warner Bro's and Zack Snyder though lol
Just did get my copy of the trade paperback of Convergence in the mail today from Ebay. I think you Sal and the guys summed up perfectly worst DC Crisis event ever.
ok so I haven't even seen the episode, but as soon as I saw the title I legit said, "oh my god, why would he do that!?" I hope this is better than the event itself!
Quick story time when I was first getting back into comics after taking a break I jumped in on convergence read the first 3 issues and then quit comics as a whole again for a year cause of how bad it was! Also great episode had to rewatch for a laugh
You know what sucks, is that now Convergence is cemented as being important as it's what brought back Pre-Flashpoint Superman and has the birth of his son, Jonathan Kent. And now ith him being the main Superman again that will always be there.
I'm waiting for the day when we have Earth-Prime Superboy show up and be like "Nah, I still remember the events of the crises and Sinestro Corps War- this is all bullcrap." It'll never happen, but it'd be perfect!
ah with winter coming early [here is GA we don't get Autumn anymore :-( ] this just reminded me how sleek that comicPOP hoodie looks. And I get paid tomorrow, to the tee public store batman!
While the main story sucks, the side stories actually have decent sendoffs to pre-flashpoint characters. Roy Harper gets he daughter Lian back, Green Arrow works with his son Connor Hawke, Dick Grayson marries Barbara Gordon, and of course, the reemergence of Post-crisis Superman and his family.
How comic book events are sold the last 10 years or so. "It's a love letter to..." Also they set up that the characters changed the ending of Crisis on inifinite Earths, but never show HOW they did it. They changed the biggest story in comic book history as an aside. A "see also". THAT was the worst part of the book. I could except the rest of the story as being bad, but this made it the worst.

Earth 2 new 52 is actually a good series but this convergence event just was a horrible footnote in them trying to get another earth for there universe
Random: the heroes who travel thru time at the end, are the heroes who all got a REBIRTH. Hal Jordan, Barry Allen, Kara Zor-EL, and Superman. My personal head-canon tells me that there was some time-travel shenanigans that happened after leaving Talos and these heroes ended up "ReBirthing" (TimeLost?)
I think there's this system on TH-cam that we're you can advertise the book 📚 on top of the name of the video so you don't have to link it on the description
You guys should do a show where you talk about the weekly all series from DC Batman Eternal, Batman and Robin Eternal, Earth 2 Worlds End, Futures End, and of course 52 you could do an issue a week and it would be awesome
But wait. By the time the action COIE actually begins there like only a half dozen universes left. Unless they stopped the Anti Monitor from waking up and killing the Monitor there’s barely any multiverse left. No Prime or Alexander Luthor in the paradise dimension means no infinite crisis. And no Flash running away from death for 25 years means they couldn’t damage Darkseid by tricking death into attacking him during Final Crisis. Also Also no AntiMonitor means Sinestro has no Guardian equivalent during the Sinestro Corps War. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Did the writers even think about what they were doing
Trying to remember, the only books I read and enjoyed from convergence was Superman- because it was a great story Thats still paying off now. Swamp Thing- because hes a great character and it was a throwback to classic Swamp Thing Story's and Kelly Jones art. Blue Beetle- because I like the Charlton comics characters. Booster gold- because its weirdly kindve required reading for the event if you pay attention...man having it all connect to the Ongoing earth 2 universe was a strange idea
I liked Covergence only after the second time I read it and the reason is I actually read through the Earth 2 series and followed their story. The first time I read it I was like wtf why is Jay Garrick 18 lmao
I remember being so excited for Convergence....... what a disappointment it was :'( Only great thing to come out of it was pre Flashpoint Supes and Lois coming back!!
I thought Jeff King made out that Supergirl and Barry Allen had to go to Crisis on Infinite Earths to die, so the Crisis happens like its supposed to, that's why Clark and Lois show back up in Superman: Lois and Clark #1 and Hal Jordan/Parallax shows up in Telos #5 after helping them die.
For some reason when I hear the disdainful comment “he’s being attacked by all of Grant Morrison’s favorite Batman villains” I immediately thought, who else’s favourite characters is he supposed to use? 😂
The pre new 52 universe was changed into the new 52 universe as a result of dr manhattan editing the timeline. In convergence, brainiac was able to access the timeline and the multiverse and remove cities from previous continuities as well as different earths. Pre new 52 Supes is from the previous unedited timeline. Wally west was put into the speed force by dr M after flashpoint occurred and after he had edited the timeline. The pre flashpoint does not exist any longer as it was changed by dr M. Now, the New 52 earth is where stories take place. There is no possible way that pre flashpoint characters could cross over into the universe, unless there is another convergence.
Buy Convergence here: amzn.to/2frPUrb
Can’t wait for eventual Omnibus collecting everything, including the breakout character Telos’s series!
Kingdom Come Superman must fight for Deimos because he's mad that the New 52 represents everything he hates in Kingdom Come.

Quote and print that: "This is the platypus of Crises."

DC: *Destroys the Injustice Universe*
Also DC: Here's Injustice 2 like 2 years later!
They’ve been weird about that.
The implication seems to be that there’s multiple Injustice 2 universes.
@@Dragonage2ftw especially cause Brainiac is the main villain of all of them
@@Dragonage2ftwif the multiverse is infinite that’s obviously true
The Titans Tie-In is really good. Gives a happy ending to Post-Crisis Roy Harper/Red Arrow.
That one guy on the left. Who calls himself Ethan.
I can't put my finger on who he is.
Well, Convergence sucked, but we have Post-Crisis Superman out of this.
spiderbatman97 It made it all worth it
spiderbatman97 yep and that's the best part
Also for people that want to read the "Golden Age" of Post-Crisis Superman i suggest to read since "Exile" (1988) trhought "The Fall of Metropolis" (1994). Not saying that all that came afterward was bad, but it never got to that quality again until Rebirth.
I loved Geoff John's run on Action Comics 2008-2009 since it gave us the best Brainiac story and the best General Zod story ever.
***** The whole Busiek/Johns era Post-Infinite Crisis and before New Krypton is pretty great in general, Camelot Falls was the business back in the day.

...And then DC editorial comes in and says, "Now I'm the villain of this story!"

Excuse me.... but seeing the Justice League International and The Charlton Heroes getting a little love was worth a throw-away event in my book :)
I love that to me, Ethan's "That doesn't make any goddamn sense!" has become the catchphrase i am waiting for each episode. LOL!
"If he doesn't have a planet anymore, DAFUQ are his powers?!"
- Ben, 2016
Nice to see "That's a story . . . For another time" returns. For some reason I always find it funny when it comes up in Back Issues
Convergence??
Sal is gonna rip this apart.
And hoo boy does he! Although not as hard as Comic Infinity.
Hated this Book, but loved the tie-ins.
Robert Devlin Isn't that the general consensus with this mess?
Incintos 98 Yes

The RED Samurai Ethan got a lot of hairs cut!

The RED Samurai he looks like injustice nightwing

Martin Aguilar The problem is when I dont understand a story because there are things happening that i havent been reading.
oh man that scene where batman met batman was the biggest build up to nothing. I remember being so pissed when i read that.
To contrast Convergence you should do Secret Wars, I remember they where happening at the same time.
They really looked at Countdown: Arena and said lets do more of this, but even more convoluted.
I'm a simple man, I see ComicPop doing Convergence I like.
WHOA--ETHAN GOT A HAIRCUT!?!?!? It looks nice. 👌👌👌
Only Comic Pop could make Convergence entertaining. Great episode!
The Atom tie-in for this was awesome! Deathstroke had baby hands!!
Worlds' End, Sal, the destruction of Earth 2 happened in Worlds End. It was another weekly series that ran parallel to Futures End. Worlds was better than Futures, but lethal injection is better than Futures End.
Ian McKee yep worlds end was the one with earth 2 getting blown the hell up
Tevya Smolka
It was a real shame, I loved E2 under Robinson, but Taylor burned the whole world down. It might have been a good story, but I miss early E2.

Was there anything about that run in particular you didnt care for, or was the everyone young and no legacy that got you?
Ian McKee it was kinda both ways the one thing they got rid of legacy of the JSA for these young hip rejects but that's just my opinion
I loved the Question tie in, it was cool to see the version of Renee Montoya we actually cared about again
lol she's back to being the pre-flashpoint Renee Montoya who became the Question
Ethan's looking more and more like Toby Maguire
if there is an earth that has a Superwoman does that mean that there is a Wonder man and a Batwoman?
Omar Rivas Bustinza there is actually a universe like that.
Wonderous Man, Earth 11
Rohan Qadir wonderous man???
Aye, sir. They can't very well call him "Wonder Man" for...reasons.
Indeed, Sir.
Thank for doing this book, even with all the reservations you had. It's really enjoyable to listen to you guys talk about it
A Book that only makes sense if you just so happen to be reading earth two
I never expected this episode to happen, but it was hilarious.... thank you guys for that!!
i remember reading this thinking what the hell is going on. it had cool parts but doesn't make up for all the stupid parts .but i definitely enjoyed watching you guys talk about it thank you
The interstellar/interdimensional space raft is a surprisingly convenient device in these massive comic events.

Future's End was the Earth 1 weekly series!
cool Sal get Geff johns to be in back issue *looking at Ethan*
Oh snap!!! Ethan with the fresh cut!!!!
Despite Convergence being very confusing (even more so when you take rebirth into account.) I heard it had some great one shots.

"Yeah, well, Telos doesn't understand Brainiac's brilliant scheme" Lol that line killed me
Did Ben just drop a Pumpkin Escobar from Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back quote? I am pleased.
Damn it, I kinda liked this event. I haven't read Future's End, do it Sal!! Do it for the fewtah lmao. 🙃
They did it
I've been waiting for this episode just to see how Sal reacts to this event
So they land on a planet named Telos? Did they run into any frozen Cybermen?

While the main story sucks, the side stories actually have decent sendoffs to pre-flashpoint characters. Roy Harper gets he daughter Lian back, Green Arrow works with his son Connor Hawke, Dick Grayson marries Barbara Gordon, and of course, the reemergence of Post-crisis Superman and his family.
I enjoyed the tie ins. I wish they would of did at least 6-10 issues of the tie ins. But also told the story through the tie ins.
Rereading the main book was like a exhausting huge chore… 😅 BUT the side cross over books were still fun and silly.
Ethan got a haircut! Looks nice bro!
All is well this night
Convergence did give us 90s Superman back with Jurgens so I can't dislike it
Honestly…I loved the nightwing and oracle convergence miniseries/tie in
