I agree! I'd love it if Titan were able to license new Kane, Kull, Bran, and Cormac Mac Art novels alongside the growing line of new Conan ones. Kane especially is a character I feel new authors could really expand upon in an interesting and darkly entertaining manner.
Absolutely love James Lovegrove’s novels. His world building feels effortless and familiar. His characters are relatable, sympathetic, dangerous and powerful. His action will emblaze struggle, chaos and triumph upon the imagination. This is a dream team pairing; Lovegrove and Conan. So exciting!
Looking forward to getting the book this week. IMO, Conan doesn’t explore the “weird” aspect of his world enough. Titan is doing EXTREMELY well with the franchise and I was very excited to hear that Conan would be involved in the more Lovecraftian aspects of the REH universe. I believe it was in the main Titan mission statement. Respect for the bookcase loaded with what appears to be row upon row of Marvel Epic collections
I look forward to somebody doing Solomon Kane and doing it right. I'm excited for this since I'm loving having new pitches and I hope we get more next year.
I was greatly skeptical about this modern wave of Conan pastiche novels, but having read Blood of the Serpent and now hearing about this novel, I getting excited about these novels.
@@Julian-i2y2q I read Hocking's Conan and The Emerald Lotus when it came out in 1996, (A Christmas present) and I really enjoyed it. At first I thought that it was Roy Thomas writing his long-desired Conan novel under a pen-name. But I was wrong. One of the better pastiche Conan novels.
Conan has always been a part of the Lovecraft universe and vice versa if you actually read thr stories. Plenty PLENTY of references to each other’s work. Conan fights eldritch horrors and someone tries to summon yogsosoth.
The one crossover that I would fight hordes of undead for is a Conan Death Dealer crossover. Even though the Death Dealer was created by Frazetta. Frazetta is forever intertwined with Conan as Howard is, and if you read th pop novels the Death Dealer books read is if it was st in Howard's world. I would buy a story that features two of the biggest badasses ever to join forces to fight hordes after hordes of demons and undead. The howard Estate and frazetta Estate would make alot of money if they just work together.
To this day the James Silke Death Dealer novels (Prisoner of the Horned Helmet, Lords of Destruction, Tooth and Claw, Plague of Knives) from the 80's are some of the finest Pulp-style Fantasy stories I've ever read. If you haven't read them I highly recommend the series.
I am excited AF for this book!!! Can't wait for Amazon to drop it off on the 19th! I ordered it two or three months ago! He basically started reading Conan the same way I did, except I had never read a comic yet, I also save and cherish all those paperbacks. I love James approach to writing the story. I'm always worried that other authors shy away from Conan because of the fear of ticking of REH purists. I said before though; that I am a Conan fan first! Tons of respect for REH, but I love the character above all, so any novel to me is better than no novel. Excited about everything James said; can wait to read the book! I hope he will consider doing more Conan stories in the future. He is so right about his 'public perception' of Australia; when we went their recently, my daughter couldn't stop worrying about the "Sydney funnel web spider" (and we weren't even in Sydney). 😆 Really appreciate James for doing this interview, and a Huge Thank You to your channel! Your the best!!!!!!!!!
1) The original Conan movie did so much for the character because they took it very seriously. The sequel, while more in line with Howard’s Conan (which I agree it is), made Conan a farce of itself. It hurt the Character in so many ways. Others have tried to play the barbarian in tv and movies, but no one does it right, with the respect of the first movie. 2) The Solomon Kane movie was a great movie, but again not necessarily in line with Howard’s character. I would love to see more Kane books. 3) The character that never seems to go over well is Kull. I’d like to see Kull make a strong comeback in both books and a movie.
I trust neither of them handling such a character appropriate in "current times". Conan is way too "problematic" for modern Hollywood sensitivities. That was also the reason Amazon dropped the development. If they'd adapt it, it would be altered beyond recognition. It's okay if this stays as niche as possible.
@@Julian-i2y2q yes the Amazon series sounded like it was going to be pretty faithful when it was announced at Howard Days , then the new Amazon management scuppered it. To rub salt into the wounds the showrunners then went and made a success of House of the Dragon.

The first Conan movie was best. It avoided the Marvel comics influenced loincloth and big sword trope of the character. Howard's Conan typically wore armor whenever it was feasible to do so. His clothing varied on where he was and how much wealth he currently possessed. He might be dressed like a steppe Kosak raider or desert nomad of Shem or the mixed kit of a traveling mercenary. He was far from the current pop-culture image of a barbarian.
This was a nice interview of an upcoming book and since this author is interested in other Robert E. Howard characters. Why not a sequel to Worms of the earth ? I would love to see Bran Mak Morn back in action again.
@@TristanHogue-d4yI’m serious. Ever since I played the 2007 Conan game on Xbox 360 and immediately saw the heavy god of war influence and the heavy influence Conan has had on Kratos and the God Of War franchise it’s been a wish of mine to see a crossover. Now with Amazon Prime Video making a God of War show just imagine a Conan cameo even just for fan service since they cancelled the Conan series it would be great.
I heave yet to a Robert E Howard book ,but I did read a lot "Conan the Barbarian " and "King Conan " in Marvel comics back in the day , like just found out there is a "Solomon Kane " movie ,it's on Netflix right now .And it's all dark and moody like is Kane . Like the biggest problem with last Conan movie ,is like he was wearing a dress in the movie .But Stephen Lang was pretty sweet as the bad dude in the movie .
You need to read ALL the Conan books. And Solomon Kane. All of them. You owe it to yourself. Just remember it's written by a Texan who was born in 1906, the very end of the Wild West, so his racial attitudes are a bit....antiquated..
As much as I love Conan, hearing all these murmurs for more Solomon Kane stories excites me to no end!
