It says something when 6 officers die in the fight while protecting their recruits. That's certainly a type of selfless leadership that you don't always see.
Two of the KIA were women officers. The defenders also included a Bedouin Sargent Major, all true selfless heroes 🫡. The Sargent Major (named Ashraf), who survived the attack and its repulsion, sent the green recruits to the clubhouse and told them not to unlock or open the door until they heard him shout "Ashraf" three times.

In IDF the officers lead from the front; it's a very different army. If you look very closely at the IDF troop's ranks in Gaza you'll find many sgan-alufs (colonels) and rav-serens (majors) on the ground fighting in front of their soldiers....

Under international law Gaza is still considered occupied since 2005, and has been since 1967, since Israel still has not transferred sovereign powers, and instead maintains control over the Palestinian Authority's ability to function effectively.
Examples: water and electricity, airspace, supply of civilian infrastructure, etc..
Interesting that critics would say that this vehicle was untested before being sent into "operations" - which might be true, however it's been said that an army has to go into battle with what's available to it when it's been attacked not what it needs or wants when it's been attacked.

Unlike the Stryker the Eitan is used domestically for self defense, so they don't need to worry as much about weight and size limits for transporting/deploying it internationally

The Eitan has to worry about getting stranded in the middle of enemy territory like the APCs and Merkavas who got blow up this month by flanking guerillas using the rubble and alleways to plant mines and shot RPGs at point blank distance

A military needs tracked and wheeled armored vehicles. Tracked for off road heavy assault. Wheeled for high speed on road and urban warfare. Both have their uses and can overlap.
Im honestly surpised with modern obsession with tacticals and modularity that some general hasnt demanded they get a tracked vehicle that can have its tread wheels wrapped in rubber and driven on like road wheels

Israel has experience fielding new and yet untested hardware into active conflicts - the Merkava was deployed in the first Lebanon war while still being in initial integration stages in the IDF armoured corps.
The Merkava 4 got destroyed last few weeks , IDF is now using merkava 3 the 90’s models on the ground and they are getting burned, just watch different news outlets

120km/hr is UNBELIEVABLY fast for an armored vehicle. That's a full 20% faster than an M1117 or a Stryker, and nobody drives those at full speed, because they will try to knock your tailbone through your throat with the handling. And the Eitan has far more armor than a Stryker, so the increased speed means that it has a much more powerful engine.
Given how it has performed so far, I don't think that we can call these untested anymore. This is probably going to be a pretty common vehicle in the future, and may even be a good export product to nations like the Gulf States (maybe, if the Abraham Accords keep moving forward) and smaller European countries. As with most IDF systems, they put a heavy focus on protecting the crew, because they are a small nation with the largest danger being attrition of their most skilled troops. Vehicles can be repaired or replaced, but soldiers are a finite resource when your total population is just under 9.4 million.

Perhaps not the most data based analytical way to think of it, but science fiction isn't fiction any more: memories of playing sci-fi miniatures games in 1980s and 1990s such as Battletech, Ogre, Dirtside. All three of them, I think, had some pretty fast armored vehicles.
These are diesel engines. Forced induction direct injected engines. They have no horsepower figures, it's software limited. A better measurement is the size of the turbo. American trucks ... by truck I mean semi ... have low horsepower figures but very reliable power ... million miles reliable. The Jews just took a truck engine and slapped a bigger turbine knowing they don't need a milion mile engine, they need power right now. The american diesel engine can definitely make power if it's needed. I play ATS, I'm a fan of american trucks, you can look at those tractor pull races to see how much they can squeeze out of a diesel. Power is there, it was decided stock power of the engine is enough
It makes sense, though. They've had a good few years to perfect these things, and they're basically the sports cars of armored vehicles when it comes to performance.
The thing I notice most about this vehicle is how...smooooooth it is. Angled and smooth with minimal superstructure almost like a creation from one of those voxel-based building games like From the Depths or whatever...whereas something like the Stryker has a very busy exterior.

It's more like you can never make a vehicle that covers everything. There is always a trade-off somewhere. For some reason, One million parts sounds like an issue with an all-out war. How fast you can produce something goes a long way in a big war.

How can you say something like this? Even if you are Pro-Palestinian/Anti-Israel, you still - according to statements made by this group - have to value human life. This person probably went through a traumatizing experience at a very young age which she might or might never recover from. Now regardless of your position on the conflict, you have to be able to see the similarity in the lived experience of this young recruit and a young gazan. (Granted the circumstances are vastly different)

I thought you were saying 8-ton. I was thinking that vehicle must weigh 5 times that. The Eitan looks like the vehicle the Israelis need. Previously one would think a quick reaction force would deploy in helicopters but perhaps they are too vulnerable to MANPADs.

@@ErnestZaslavsky indeed, paratroopers were flown in via CH-53 Sea Stallions to respond at one location, and were hit with RPG fire, though managed to land and disembark the troops safely.
Its 30 to 35 tonnes. More than a Pz 4 tank in WW2. More than a Stryker and more than double a BTR80.
I kept asking myself how that thing only weighed 8 tons.

The edge that the Israeli designers have over their counterparts in military industry in other countries is that they have direct access to soldiers and units with actual battle experience, when collecting the requirements for new systems. In fact, some of those engineers were these soldiers a few years earlier or they still are in active reserve duty for a few weeks every year. Also during testing you get quick feedback so you can fine tune and tweak the final product.
Iron Dome itself was tested in live action in 2009 and received a few upgrades while the confrontation was still going on.
Israeli weapons design engineers also work with a procurement chain of command whose first priority is national survival rather than economic stimuli.
But you skipped the most important question: Is it US street legal?

I saw a video of Israeli soldiers rescuing a team from inside a hit apc. They typed in some code in the back of the vehicle to open the door and save the crew that locked themselves inside the apc. That was very interesting to me. Is this like a safety measure the apc crew can use so they won't get taken as prisoners and can wait for rescue? I've never seen any other army have this thing in their heavy armored vehicles.

@@devon5154 Most military vehicles, believe it or not, have no such thing. Locking the door is kinda pointless when you have to station GIs to guard the equipment anyways. And during combat it can be even detrimental at times as it may prevent crew from escaping. So yeah, the idea may be indeed to avoid taken hostage. A conventional army may only call artillery or any other ordinance but in assymetric warfare where the other side is eager to take hostages this function may not be bad.
@@devon5154 Yeah it was a door lock. And the crew that came and rescued them also knew the code to get the door unlocked. That made me wonder if the purpose is just for situations to prevent the crew from being taken hostage.
I know the video you're talking of, it's a special police unit coming to their rescue...I don't recall them entering a code to open the door, though.
As I recall, they used the intercom on the back of the APC to talk with the wounded soldiers inside and inform them that they were the police coming to get them out.
@@FlinnGaidin that makes considerably more sense, there’s no point in putting locks on the car If you key them all the same, and the enemy gets a hold of it. Locking doors, make sense in urban combat…. Especially combat where the enemy is trying to take hostages.

If you look at Ukraine's success with drones versus armored vehicles, an anti-drone capability is vital.
Another great video cappy. Israel has a history of trying out new equipment by simply using it's conflicts as a testing ground. I would think that they would learn a lot more, a lot faster this way rather than spending the zillions of dollar's the rest of the world spends.

Dude, its 90 km/h maximum speed… with 750 hp and more then 30 tons you wil never be faster than that.
@@StefanBehrens-bp8fl Israeli highways allow such speed, the route they were driving (from Northen to Southern Israel) had a slight downward slope as well. 90kmph is probably goverened speed. If needed, it could be ungoverned.
I'm guessing it is pretty top-heavy and bounces like a mattress. 90 kp/h in any such vehicle would be very difficult to control at such a speed with that suspension.
The IDF can develope and use these awesome vehicles for their defense as they do not have to worry about using them for expeditionary forces.A great advantage for sure as they can be uparmored and add more defensive capabilities without worrying about having to fly or ship them to a battle front.
They are literally using them to invade Gaza lmao, they have to worry about them getting stranded like any other vehicle. And as seen on the videos uploaded by the Quds, the APCs and Tanks getting stranded without infantry support in the middle of the ruins are not few

@@Fulcrox I've seen the videos you're talking about. They don't give you the full picture. They don't give you anything really beside shooting a rocket and loud shouting "backbar, backbar". I think that IDF dismounts the infantry further away from Merkava, so they minimize the chance of being in range of those rockets. Using Merkava as bait for rockets, while still having infantry in the area.

Not sure if Iron Fist is better than Trophy. Each has their own pros and cons. The pro for Iron Fist is it's a lot lighter than trophy and was designed for light infantry vehicles (jeeps, hummers etc...) - meaning that if you can support the weight (e.g. Merkava) the Trophy is probably the better system.
Trophy is more effective and has more ammo, while Iron Fist is more flexible on where it can be put.

Recently Elbit Systems (previously at #3) merged with IMI (previously at #4) to take the 1st place from IAI, which has now been relegated to 2nd place, and dropping Rafael to 3rd.

The Stryker is designed to be transported in a C-130, so there’s a reason it has half the mass of the Eitan. I don’t think the Stryker was meant for urban warfare, either.

Today on TV they intervied an IAI exec after Arrow again shot down Yemeni ballistic missile. He said, we should thank Houthis, they are saving us money on dummy missiles for testing. Germany recently purchased Arrow to counter Russian ballistic missile threat. Germans will also be happy it was finally battle tested in a real war.
I find it refreshing the way he handles a opinion(Striker issue ) differnt from his own ! Seems to have gotte rare these days!
12:28 Rafael is our Skunkworks. They are typically tasked with the impossible and can get it done.
One of the coolest parts of technology in combat, is that technology will always be ahead of what is practically possible. Every single platform, weapon and strategy is already potentially obsolete because by the time the tool is being used, a minority of people (hopefully helping you out) have already observed, tested and identified the weaknesses of the new thing. They have the time between designing the thing, and sending it to combat, to design a better version and therefore "obsolete" the old version. (never-mind practical experience) Some parts of the military have this issue worse than others, not really sure which are relevant. But here are some examples.
Navies often have this issue because it can take decades to make a single ship, so as long as you want to stick with the original plan (ad-lib at your own risk). It takes so long to move a ship from the blueprints to the sea that entire wars can begin and conclude before the ship is ever tested. By the time the ship touches water there have been 10 years of engineering, experience and changes in priority.
On the opposite end of the spectrum guns are so numerous that massive amounts of industry would have to retool and find funding before new ones became common. Practically you can make a new individual weapon very quickly, but replacing a 50 year old gun completely may take 50 years. By the time a gun becomes common in a military there have already been new guns made and the people may see the old gun as an old reliable despite flaws that have been on record for entire generations.
Rushing your new vehicle to combat and skipping the evaluation minimizes the time people can reconsider/observe and practically increases the time the vehicle has before becoming obsolete.
There are risks though, it isn't all gravy.
I hope that our government and military leadership realizes that this vehicle is what our infantry and even support vehicles such as ambulances, spec ops & comms should move to . Their emphasis is troop survivability which the Stryker lacks and since Osh Kosh is building the Israelis vehicles we should buy their armored vehicle along with the technology that gives it a cutting edge for the armored tanks .
in israel a lot of males are also called eitan, we dont usually use it in its meaning of strong, its not a "street" word.

The weight is also reported to be 30 to 35 TONS, not the 8 tons Caps stating. - After contacting Cap, sorted me out here. He said "Eitans" and it sure sounds like 8tons to me. As for the speed, Cap said
"Eitan can definitely go above the official open source numbers speed, that's the numbers for recommended routine driving. The Stryker for example is listed with a top speed of 60 mph but I know for a fact we drove it at 80 mph (not advisable it really starts to wobble at that point and its dangerous)"
Moving 30 to 35 tons at 74/75MPH is quite a feat.
Wikipedia isn't a great source for cutting edge military tech. It's pretty good for older tech, as those are known quantities with a lot of observed use. Newer tech often has purposely inaccurate info shared by the manufacturer--in the west, this typically is to under-sell the system so that enemies underestimate its true capabilities, while Russia and China are notorious for over-selling their systems to make them appear more impressive. This is why the Patriot systems taking down the Russian Kinzals in Ukraine was such a surprise to some. On paper, that could never happen, as the Patriot capabilities are above what was reported, while the Kinzal "hypersonics" were slower and less maneuverable than reported.

The German boxer ist the most armored and advanced IPC in the world atm, not this one, but it still looks very unique and interresting, i bet its an amazing vehicle.
have you seen the absolute gargantuan size of the Boxer though? try fitting that through any street without getting stuck, it makes the Stryker look rather petite by comparison and it feels weird seeing the Europeans make an AFV so large it couldn't operate in a European city.

@@pkt1213 the system is designed with tolerances where the fire teams are supposed to be located at they have to stay on their zone.
Look at Israeli doctrine. Israeli soldiers are mounted, and when dismounted they aren't anywhere near the APCs.
It makes the APCs more vulnurable to attacks, however, those APCs are designed to handle them using APS, ERA and passive armor. This made Israeli casualty rate in Gaza exceptionally low (

A translation to several Israeli terms: BAHAD 4 is the acronym of Basis Hadracha 4 - Training Base number 4. It's a training base for non-combatant recruits.

So... the Chinese VN-20 done right; a multi-purpose troop transport vehicle that actually functions with reasonable protection and improves and restructures existing designs with specific purposes in mind.

the more i study IDF vehicles, the more i realize that US made vehicles are not as good as they could be. apart from the abrams. i always have a bias for abrams.
i always thought since childhood that the US would always have the best military toys, since they're experienced with war and have the best capital to support their military industry. but as i grow, i am realizing that is not always the case

@@ushankaman6143 yes because the idf is expecting to lose many not having complete air dominance and control of the battle space in a war like America plans to. Also largely idf operation is strictly urban in daily combat and us wars are not. Totally different needs.
The United States has whatever the highest bidder produces, meaning, whoever is willing to pay off the senators and politicians the most usually get selected for the contract.
Another advantage of wheeled veicles is, that a mine usually blows off only onw wheel, so the vehicle can limp out of the danger zone on the remaining 5 or 7 wheels
I really like your videos. If I could give a bit of feedback back about the presentation, a bit longer of a pause between paragraphs or the next topic would be helpful. Some times it sounds like you are reading a very long run on sentence.

The reason Israel has to outsource the production of several military equipment is due to several reasons.
Not enough space for large factories. They require a lot of space for testing.. plus only people who served in the military can work in those factories with a special military clearance.
the cost of producing inside Israel is way too high. The cost of real estate in Israel is one of the highest in the world. there is very little you can buy with $1 million.
Israel can manufacture everything at home. but it's not cost-effective.

Tracked vehicles is obviously meant for muddy rainy, snowy conditions. Dry areas is fit for faster more zippy fighting vehicles.

Thanks for a great video , the Iron Fist have also not seen real battles yet... the version used is called Iron Fist Light Decoupled, this version was made to address needs of the US army after testing few years ago with the original version were only partially successful and it was too heavy... I don't know the ETA of the testing but this system looks more suitable for APCs ... it was chosen also for the Australian Redback, Trophy is still the dominant for MBTs

Yeah, the only reason to pick the Iron Fist over Trophy is weight/energy issues. Trophy is far better, but it's too heavy for most vehicles and takes up an ungodly amount of energy. Trophy is more effective, but it can be fit on smaller vehicles, and even helicopters.

The lack of even light armor plating to protect those HIGHLY exposed rear coil springs seems like a terrible design. You can’t tell me an extra 100 pounds of armor to cover those wouldn’t be worth it. Pretty major fail imho

In the SADF we had the same concep way back in the 80's. The RATEL troop carrier/fighting mashine ended up to be our most sucsesfull machine. Still in use by the new SA army. Google it.

The Zikim base was not overrun. It was successfully defended by it's command personnel, with 2 casualties IIRC. All Hamas terrorists who raided the base met their creator at the end of the battle. It is also not a main recruit base. Homefront command soldiers get their basic training there.

What got to me was how they were able to use boats to the beach. I would have assumed there would be at least a couple of patrol boats watching the shoreline for infiltration. Seems Israel failed on all fronts to protect against infiltration. I’m still not sure how this happens when you have a hostile group right next to you.

M8 what I believe happened was that Israel let the attack happen to justify the war , they needed a reason to invade Gaza after decades of missile bombardments and attempted assaults launched by hamas , no side here is a saint and none should be supported for war is a plain tragedy, but the truth here is that no defense should be needed because no one should be attacking at the first place

You're right, it was failure, but mainly a political one. Netanyahu downplayed Hamas for years and thought he had them contained by giving them amenities, money and a free reign.
To his credit, Hamas played him (and Israel) quite well, not participating in previous battles, feigning incompetence in videoed military drills, and appearing to prefer the pleasantries of rulership over anything else. As a result, Netanyahu, and the Israeli intelligence, got complacent and moved whole brigades out of the Gaza border, thinking they're being wasted on a relatively peaceful front since Israel thought the main adversary would be Hizbollah and prepared for an invasion from the north, leaving the south relatively open for a full-scale attack.
There was a patrol ship and it destroyed 3 of the boats. Think the main issue was that the drones ran out of missiles very quickly.

I've got to say, your videos are by far the best at describing to a great degree the function, pros and cons of each piece of equipment you're going over, whether it's an F 18/A Super Hornet, or a new, untested and unproven Israeli armored personnel carrier. I guess that when you have a nation of 9 million people that is surrounded by several hundred million potential adversaries, you don’t want to get into a war of attrition with them.
There is also a cultural component. Contrary to popular belief, Judaism doesn't really have set belief in heaven or hell but rather life and legacy is the thing. Ecclesiastes is one of the corner stone philosophical texts for Judaism. For reference to your specific point, I'd recommend reviewing Ecclesiastes 9 to be precise.

Even tho you are correct in what you say, I find that aspect of many modern Jews’ religious practice to be sad.
The view of no afterlife is not new. It has a long tradition dating back to at least the 2nd Temple era. There were numerous Jewish Groups that claimed to practice “true” Judaism back then. The 3 most prominent were Pharisees (Chasidim), Sadducees & Essenes.
Most modern Rabbinical Judaism has a direct historic & theological link to The Pharisees. They revered the traditions of the Elders just like they revered the Tanach (Hebrew Bible for those who don’t know). Out of those traditions rose the Talmud. They actually did believe in a Resurrection, Judgement & afterlife. It was a point of contention with the Sadducees.
The Sadducees were a religious/ political group that had a love/hate relationship with the Pharisees. They only acknowledged the 5 Books of Torah as being Divinely inspired. They did not believe in angels, unclean spirits or an afterlife. All your rewards & punishments accrued in this life. Some suggest that modern Kararite Jews are their spiritual descendants. I think that that view is wrong. Kararites revere the entire Tanach. Their only commonality with the Sadducees is that neither consider the Traditions (Talmud) to be Divinely authoritative. Although in truth, many Kararites go along with many extra-Biblical traditions from a cultural standpoint. I don’t know of any modern stream of Judaism that is quiet like the Sadducees. And I suspect that there have always been Kararite leaning Jews. (They are kinda like Protestants in Christianity).
The Essenes are a third group that were quite large & well respected by the people. Their origins & demise have been shrouded in mystery to some degree. Many think that they were a small sect of Monastic Jews. Qumran being their HQ.
In truth the community at Qumran was a monastic style community with very precise rituals. But only properly descended priests went there. And they stayed for short periods of time. (I think the very idea of a large celibate priesthood would go against every inclination of real Jews). (And Baptists, too).
The Essene Movement was much larger than most of us realize. They believed in the entire Tanach just like the Pharisees. They also believed in the Testimony of the Patriarchs as being Divinely inspired. They rejected the Traditions of the Elders/The Oral Torah as being Authoritative.
They didn’t particularly get along with either the Pharisees or the Sadducees.
What happened to them?
They became the early Church. They laid the groundwork for Christianity among Jews with an understanding that the eventual outreach would expand to Gentiles. They were the proto-Messianic Jews.
Both John the Baptist & Jesus quoted Essene writing. Paul incorporated their insights & doctrines in what could be called Pauline Doctrine.
One of the Elders who “laid hands” on Paul in Antioch was a noted Essene who had been a leader of the Sanhedrin before fleeing Jerusalem.
Dr Ken Johnson is working diligently to translate the Dead Sea Scrolls into English for us all to study. He has several fascinating books already published. And more in the works. I have read about a dozen of his books. They aren’t all about the DSS.
He has a good TH-cam channel, too.
