I've never seen anyone celebrating those horrible things. If you're gonna make a compelling case for change, don't lie about the nature of what we're celebrating.

In 1838 the first white person was convicted of murdering an Aboriginal.
It has not been what you describe.
For goodness sake please stop the decision and come together to celebrate this wonderful nation.
Oh and yes I have Aboriginal blood…

Australia as we know it began to take shape on that date. Yes evils came with it, as have countless goods. Australia is something worth celebrating despite its horrors, and that particular day marks in large part the beginning of what Australia has become.
Sadly many indigenous peoples have suffered with the founding of this nation, but we are no longer the British and the disparate Aboriginal tribes, we are one nation of people with a shared history, who have been joined by countless others who have migrated here along the way. Perpetuating division and victimhood is not going to bring anything positive to anyone.

Okay... let's do away with Australia Day. A bit like a voice to parliament...this will change ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. It's time you stopped looking for excuses why you can't get your shit together.

Absolutely not. You can't reject the nation that was created because of the past. Celebrate Australia, it is for everybody and everyone has benefitted.

I prefer to celebrate Australia Week, which is exactly the same as Australia Day but goes on for three more days both sides. We're all sick of the blood libel and have no interest in appeasing those who hate us. We voted no, btw.

A Sovereign Nation dissolves tribal boundaries!
All of the tribal stories can be amalgamated and this is what allows tribes to integrate and live together harmoniously in a Nation State.
England was once an island of warring tribes. The Picts. The Celts! The Scots etc.
The Romans invaded England as did the Vikings, the Francs and the Normans!
The parts of England that were conquered gained by all the cultural wealth Roman Civilisation had to offer.
The ferocious tribes that were able to defend their territory against the Roman Legions remained underdeveloped in every way including militarily.
When the Romans abandoned England, the advances gained by those living under Roman rule allowed them to conquer each and every other tribe and eventually forge a sovereign Nation State!
    Great Britain!
Are you suggesting Great Britain should dissolve itself and re-establish the ancient warring tribes racked with never ending wars based on ancient blood feuds!
Why is that I have never once heard indigenous leaders like you talk about the problems in your communities.
You are always talking about the incarceration rate amongst your people but you never admit that the reason for it is a much higher rate of domestic violence!
When are you going to admit that the people you follow are clueless in solving anything!
Hasn’t Noel Pearson received over $500,000,000.00. Of funding from the long suffering Australian Tax Payers who have many times established their bona fide wish to bridge the gap between black and white.
Why don’t you do a story from Noel Pearson’s home ground and tell us about the state of indigenous people of Mr half a billion dollar man.
Why is that when genuine leaders such as Jacinta Price emerge who have spent a life time working at the coalface in areas such as indigenous sexual assault, you all hate on her?
Why did the ABC’s Patricia’s Karvelas allow the racist abuse by Marcia Langton and Mr Peason against her!
Here is my challenge to you. Instead of standing on your privilidged soap box hurling abuse at us white fellas, why don’t you go and live in a community like Alice Springs and solve the problems such as teenage violence, domestic and sexual abuse and feral alcohol syndrome.
Ask yourself if you are picking the low hanging fruit, picking the easy targets of white guilt by grievance mining and exploiting the suffering of your people by being a misery entrepreneur!

Nobody looks at Australia day and celebrates the conquering of this land, we celebrate what it means to be Australian, the pride in our country and how far it's come. If you think your so oppressed living in that home of yours you probably need to take a look in a mirror and realise the great gift it was that the Europeans made this nation so great. 🇦🇺

what a load of rubbish. The only 'geno' that ever took place here, was between tribes well before the brits ever arrived. Try accepting your own history rather than rewriting it to suit yourself.

I am know extremely confused I though Australia day was always about celebrating how far we had come as a nation from the time that captain cook introduced the world to Australia establishing the beginning of European colonisation of the continent, and the displacement of Aboriginal peoples as we have come along way from a time where indigenous people where classified as fauna as now better than a month or Roo (which made no sense iny mind as they were called Aboriginal people) to being classified by the law as people and actually being given the ability to chose their own fate, as well as all the triumphs and losses, setback and progression of the modern nation that is Australia.

The date has only been set for the last 79 years. A blip in Australia’s history, even for those who think Australia started in 1888.
I reckon we don’t wait, we lead by example. We pick a date BEFORE January 26, to represent the lives, culture and history that was going on before 1888. All Australians should be able to come together on this date. And then those who want to celebrate the landing of Captain Cook and those who see it as an invasion can mark Jan 26 in their own way.
I’d rather celebrate a new date, learn more about times before white arrival, truth about what happened after, and work on healing generational pain and suffering, remind everyone about the importance of Elder leadership, handing down knowledge and kids going to school to empower themselves with knowledge of tradition, skills, modern world etc.

Could we develop three days to celebrate our nation?
25 January - A day to remember Aboriginal heritage in Australia.
26 January - A day to solemnly remember the price paid by Aboriginal Australians in the eatablishment of the nation.
27 January - A public holiday to celebrate the future and all we can be together.
