Im 70 and im watching this.......yes I was married for 30 years, then my marriage ended and I was standing at Centre link!!! Very scary and no light at the end of the tunnel.....young women working NEED to think ahead and make sure to build up a secure financial backup!! And always have access to your own money!!! It's a fundamental must!!
my father told me this way back when I was 6. I think he always wanted to leave, but worried about us. He kept saying my whole life, "I wish I could buy you a house". So I started working at 14 (lied about my age) and worked my whole life. Even with a baby. I will now make more on SS than my sister and my BIL put together. Its something. OH. And DONT ruin your credit. that too.
My father always advised to plan for the future and save. I started my private pension at 24, got a mortgage at 25, paid it off at 45. Never rely on someone else to provide for your future
Oh stop it! Women have been relying on men to carry them financially for decades rather than being more independent, keeping their own investments separate, starting their own businesses. This is the direct result of women not giving 2 sh!ts about planning their future and security into old age.
I knew an 85yr old woman who's worked her whole life and could only afford to rent a shared room in a sober living house. These types of houses stuff two people in one room and 4 beds in the master bedroom. This is the new normal in America. They've turned housing into jails.
Sounds horrible! Fortunately, I got real lucky with my housing situation here in New England that also has a huge housing crisis i.e. affordable housing for seniors! I count my blessings every day!
Exactly, The Australian Superannuation System means majority of Australians who work there whole lives simply won't have enough to retire on. I'm Gen Z and have been working since I turned 18 but I only have $8000 in Super meanwhile the amount I'm suppossed to have for my age is $18,000 which is impossible to achieve with this cost of living crisis.
Yes, I'm 70 and had to do exactly this in California. 3 to a room. 10 women in a 3 bedroom house with only one bathroom. It's very much like jail as many of these women are mentally challenged and damaged. Hard to live with some of them.
This will never happen to cultures where families live together. They learned the skills of cooperation, compromise, compassion, and teamwork. It's not about individualism, but thriving and surviving well as a family group where no one is left behind alone.
@@Robert74450 That's why you need to choose which family member to live with. Maybe a relative or a friend is better. It depends on personality and character too.. But the point is to join forces with someone compatible.
I have been in this situation. Now fortunately I have a senior apartment. An important issue I think, is for many women who are entering retirement age now, there just were not pathways to saving, or build retirement funds. We were caught between the old notions of being wives and mothers and dependent on husbands for financial security and the new roles for women to also be workers and responsible for planning for their own old age as well as being mothers and carers. Hopefully as the coming generations of women age, they will be better prepared, and the role of mother and carer will be compensated, or at least acknowledged better, and so be reflected in social security etc. My heart goes out to all the women who find themselves in this position and feel ashamed. The shame does not belong with you. It belongs to society which has failed us by not adaquately acknowledging and compensating the work we have done all our lives.
As a single mother I constantly had to cash out any retirement, savings, stocks I had accumulated in order to keep a roof over our heads. Now as a retiree my kids have turned their backs on me. I can't believe I sacrificed my own security for these self centered people. But that's what a good mother does.
Welcome to the senior club. Children are no longer reliant, it's all about them. I have a middle aged daughter. I wouldn't let her plan a meal for me, much less look after me. She would find ways to get at my assets, and shuffle me off when there is no money left. If my wife preceeds me, I have a problem dealing with this. Many elders don't need to left alone.
@@beaulieuc8910 I did. Because I was a good parent who put my kids first. I wouldn't do it any different. Just didn't expect one of them to turn out to be a narcissist.
@@virginiawai8485 What a judgemental crone you are. You know nothing about me or my life or what I've been through. Keep your judgement to yourself. You know nothing. Look up child estrangement. It's a thing. And by the way, also look up compassion and see if you can achieve it.
I’m there, family knows but is no help to me. I will have a place to go but while it’s good and I’m grateful, it isn’t what I wanted for myself. My life went in the crapper when I got cancer. That’s gone but so is my home and real independence with it. It’s very difficult to start over when you’re almost 79yo.
I would never and have never relied on anyone for my livelihood. At the end of the day the person who has vowed to love and take care of you, could say I want out. Then where does that leave you. Always maintain some kind of job, even if it's part-time.
Not very useful advice after the fact is it? This shouldn't be an exercise in showing how fabulous your choices have been. (What an ego trip and very lacking in compassion and understanding pointing the finger). The reality is women have given their lives to bringing others up, dutifully done the right thing, been underpaid and been shafted one way or another. Now they get not only blamed but told what they have done wrong. Not good enough to indulge in the ego trip.
Yes, You are correct..But that doesn't apply to people who have sever depression, social anxiety, Adhd, PTSD bipolar, and have gotten fired from every job ..
My gf I went through nursing school with, divorced, and after 20 years of bouncing around apartments, she got tired of "being a nunsiance", she held a G to her head and did it. I told her she could live with me, but she said she wanted her own house and didn't want to depend on me when times got bad. That was 22 years ago. I miss her.
Agreed. The schools need to have mandatory classes on budgeting, saving and 401(k), Roths, or other forms of retirement saving. So young people can see these as a way of life, rather than some painful new habit they have to form later in life when their finances are all over the place.
I've been saying this forever. There should be classes on how to invest money. How to budget you know information on 401ks all that kind of stuff. There's a whole bunch of stuff. School should be teaching life skills ways of dealing with children that's a huge challenge. People have kids and they have no clue. Maybe that's why everything's such a mess. But financial intelligence definitely should be taught in school.
too many times we're left to our own devices! Does Australia not have something like our Social Security? It may be feasible to stay at home when kids are little, like I did, but once they're school age, women need to go back to work and continue to collect SS or set up their own IRA, Independent Retirement Account. Think and plan ahead!
@@brendadrew834 there are so many things that can happen in life even if you do plan. It's a big one that comes to mind is a healthcare crisis. Life isn't so cut and dried. It's pretty obvious that it's not by the disparity that we see everywhere around us. It's kind of like hindsight is 20/ 20 and you don't know what you don't know and our educational system is also to blame because they do not teach financial literacy. I think that is actually on purpose to keep people from understanding how to invest.
I don't understand how a mother who committed her life to raising children ends up homeless. Yes, the husband is no longer in the picture... but where are the children?
Maybe the kids are not much better off than she is? Apples never fall far from the tree. If she had been a lawyer, they probably would have been professionals as well.
😊Women accepted the myth that men would look after them in exchange for making a home and having their children. Society let them down. Teach your girls to get an education and a career. They cant count on someone else to do it for them.
@@dcg590 How can a wife save in a retirement account if shes not working a job outside the home? If the husband insisted she stay home and not work, then yes, I blame him. Staying home should only be until the kids start school full time, then its back to work.
90% of the population, who are blood related, can't even pool their resources (for better financial management/growth) due to conflict of interest/personality. Now try doing it with non-blood-related people.
Some women do share places but there still needs to be enough money to pay for a house & an owner that will rent to three friends rather than a family, which many will not, as it is inconvenient if one person leaves.
I was a single mom and we did that. Three moms, 6 kids in a 2 bedroom apartment. I was there 2 years working full time and going to cosmetology school part time which was 7 days a week. It was tight, it was challenging but I saw an end in sight when I would become a hairdresser and make better income than my minimum wage job. We took turns watching the kids, we made it work because it HAD to work. Later as my income quadrupled I got my own place, then a house, then bought rental properties, invested, saved and could retire at age 45. It was a good lesson for me, I gave every dollar I made a job to do. I bought my first TV set when I was 45 years old, had no time for one prior. Be the Little Pig that builds a house of brick, not of straw, the Big Wolf comes to your door one day, be prepared.
I'm 73 and have been homeless over 5 years on and off. I sleep in shopping center parking lots to save money. I will probably sell my 20 year old car soon. So I will have to do plan B. My only friend is Jesus and I believe He will take care of me.
You should go to housing in your community and get 202 for housing . If you are old enough and don't take no for a answer or get housing if you are disabled. Not section 8 set on there dam door steep.
The neglect of our older woman is absolutely shameful. How sad it is that those who have been mothers, carers and nurturers through their lives are left out in the cold in their older years.
it is a reality - especially with this generation....if you are a parent and your children love you dearly...do not take it for granted. To know your mother or father is actually sleeping on a pavement is disgusting but not surprising that their children or relative wouldn't help. A mother use to be the worth of a "diamond" - one to be treasured.
I work in a truck stop. I see so many mature women homeless. Their husbands have died and they’ve lost their homes. Their kids have stolen from them. They are on fixed incomes and rents have risen. Husbands have died and their companies have denied pensions to the spouses…. You would never guess these women are homeless, they can’t even believe it. It’s very sad.
and sadly, we still live in a patriarchal society that creates real struggles for many women! We've been fighting for full radification of the ERA, Equal Rights Amendment ever since 1923, over 100 years here in the states! smdh
@@zrymill It's a problem that's been building over decades. We have to commit to providing decent public housing. Affordable housing is a misnomer, it's $350k and you have to find a loan for it? The problem is that people are selfish don't want to pay taxes and don't want governments providing public housing. But this is precisely what is needed. Nobody is facing this not even the Greens.
It was a completely different time when these women were married, it was the norm the divorce rate wasn’t anything like it is today. Men from the old school worked HARD !! The wives were the homemakers etc. sadly for most those days are long gone, generally speaking: the husband worked hard and scrimped and saved ,( if he was a good husband), the wife did all the cleaning and cooking etc, this is how we were brought up. Dad has since passed away, and mum is comfortable and is well taken care of financially. Not so for others in that time: if the men didn’t save and if they wasted it on grog and pokies etc………. Some women are financially abused in their marriages, and the husband doesn’t share the money equally. This is where the problem lays for these women unfortunately.
The "Victorian" concept of marriage should go out the window by now! It's the 21rst century, not the 19th century anymore!! Widowed /single after 42 years of marriage and loving it!!

That's both sad and horrible! Thankfully, I have two grown daughters who have good solid college educations with degrees and they love and take care of me, even from a distance, my youngest being a Montessori teacher in CA! My oldest lives upstairs from my "Carriage House" cottage apartment with my son in law and granddaughter who have been most helpful since I have MS! Tough I'm very independent minded and do a lot for myself even if it's not always easy. They've gotten home care workers in to help me two days a week. I count my blessings every day!
Dont get married thinking your husband is going to take care of you. Dont sacrifice your future being barefoot and pregnant and staying at home. each person is the the only one responsible for their own future. Make good choices when young.
This story got me so deeply. Society thinks women should focus on the children and the home which obviously means the detriment of her career and when divorce happens or their spouse dies she is left to drown, without job experience or usually even credit in her name. It is heartbreaking that so many countries don't value the unpaid work that women do as carers. The solution? In my mind it's a basic universal income. In the long run, basic universal income actually lifts people up enough to get off the service and saves taxpayer money. Also, financial literacy and having people understand that financial independence is necessary for both partners.
When & if the SPOUSE DIES? Well if *she was* still married to him at the time of Death she receives not only inherits the 'Estate' or her children, if over 18 (under most circumstances) she will also get a widows pension.
@@lolitarouge Not everyone is fortunate enough to own their own home to inherit from a spouse. Most have motgages. Plus the loss of income.... 6 years ago .. Now, in 2021, we now have a catastrophic housing crisis in Australia. Older women and single mothers are at the forefront of the tsunami of homeless people. These are good, educated people who have spent decades working and caring for others only to find society turn its back on them.
Same here in America. It's not because of immigration, either, brettski....it's about the government refusing to realize that their regulations and stipulations for affordable housing is antiquated with this economic downturn across the world. It's not happening overnight....it's been building and building since the beginning of the 21st century. We need to do better, or we'll all be on the streets. It's worse than the potato crisis since it's worldwide.
What happened to family taking in the elders in their family? If you do research most countries treat the elderly with respect! Shame on those who should be there for their people!! My home is paid for but with taxes and insurance who knows how long I will have a roof over my head. I pray for the struggles of these peoples. ♡
That’s because in most countries as you put it, they do not prepare for retirement. Kids are expected to care for their parents. In this country you have decades t9 prepare and there is plenty of welfare. It’s up to you to prepare
The truth is a lot of women do not earn enough to put away enough money for their retirement. Women are more vulnerable to having to accept low paid work or unemployment than men. Over 80% of unpaid carers are women. When seeking work, on average, women have to apply for about 33% more jobs before they find employment than men do. Unfortunately prejudice has not gone away. Prejudice can have shocking effects on peoples lives.
I was a QLD Police Officer and yes there were qualifiers for men and qualifiers for women, but only physically, women got more time/less weight/more incentivised pass rates as the "Service" wanted a 50/50 ratio. If that's not a prejudice I'm not sure what is
Yes, unfortunately we still live in a white patriarchal society! Here in the states we've been fighting for full radification of the ERA, Equal Rights Amendment ever since 1923, over 100 years! Had enough??
If you want to find out how evolved a society is, take a look at how they treat their weakest members. The elderly have given us their all. It's time we gave them something back ❤
Big mistake! The divorcing women don’t have any money to hire a lawyer and get taken advantage of during the divorce settlement. The husbands walk away without a care and don’t feel a compunction to support someone they’ve been married to for over 30 years. Major discard to the trash heap.
I always told my daughter, "Be ready to take care of yourself, because you never know. Sometimes things don't work out, sometimes husbands are not reliable. BE READY TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF."
I was a single mom...worked 6 days a week for 20 years to provide for my kids and myself. While we were homeless in a car I opened a savings account and put $2. a week in it no matter what, and started the saving/investing habit. So glad I did..I went to school to be a hairdresser, invested, took classes, worked overtime and retired at 45 a millionaire. I followed Dave Ramsey's plan..it was simple and it worked.
Having a job, for a women Even if you are a mother is a must. Its your financial security in every situation. I would never depend on anybodie's money, never.
The first woman's children are not there for her. I wonder if there is a good reason she's divorced and the kids aren't there to support her now. I wonder if there is another side to her story she's not sharing.
My wife and I are seniors, when one of us checks out, the survivor would not be able to live in our home. Fortunately, we both saved for our retirement. So barring hyper-inflation, we should be OK for the duration. Things most people won't or can't do this, or can't manage their money. We saved long term for this reason. Another is not having any family to help or take you in their home. World Governments are going broke, and are printing fiat money to pay their bills. We worked and scrimped for years, nour money buys less every day. It is not going to be pretty.
Where are the children? These women should pull together and share the house. There is always a solution, loosing your home should not happen. Before there were lodgers and boardin houses.
They get like $29,000 a year for the old aged pension. They are also allowed to work a couple of days a fortnight to supplement their income without losing their pension. They also get half price taxis, discounted council rates and water and car rego (if they still drive). They also had the opportunity to buy houses in suburbs we couldn't even dream of affording for well under $100k and those same houses are now worth millions of dollars. Yeah we do nothing for them...
Perhaps the government should consider not throwing all of the tax payers money on illegals and pay more attention to the seniors who’s tax payments all of their lives, paid for the programs.
Nope. Your solution is to make other people pay their way? You need to be preparing for retirement the whole time you work or you’re married. Money should be put away for the future.
Teach your daughters to go for the highest education and/or aim at being professionals. Never stop your career after marriage or having children even though it means working part-time. Save for retirement. No one can take care of you but yourself.
The woman said she was a stay at home mom and raised her children. One of her child couldn't take their mom in? I'm not necessarily close to my Mom, but I would rather her living with me than homeless.
I know someone who partied most of her life & made bad choices…didn’t plan for older age … She had to humble herself & now lives with a kind grown daughter…
How rude of you. This is her fault? The best plans of mice and men, mate. It's the same with women. They dutifully do what is expected, survive on less pay than men and then get discarded. It sounds like you derive satisfaction from the misery of others. Good luck with that attitude because life is far more complex than you make out.
After my divorce, I knew I would not be able to keep my home for long, so I sold it, and almost everything else, and enrolled in college at age 45. I had only ever worked minimum wage jobs, part time, and I didn't have any savings or much to look forward to as far as Social Security goes. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to retire between age 67 and 70.
Years ago I was employed helping low income folks fix their houses. So many older women alone that were barely hanging on financially after their husbands passing or whatever. In other countries, the elderly are taken care of by their children. The children are raised with that obligation to care for their parents in their old age. What a shame that it has to be this way for our elderly. A society is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable...the elderly and the children. What type of society are we in? Family does not just consist of a spouse. Family is so much more than that and should extend out like a web of support. This is a reflection of where we are as a society.
I am 71 and rent a studio apartment in a retirement village for $320 a week , it is wonderful, my children would have had me , but I wanted to be independent, also there are people my own age I can speak to , I am on the waiting list for social housing, but I am grateful I found this 👍
I think this is shameful. If a man did not have a wife, he would have to pay a nanny that would cost a lot more. If a woman has put her career on the backburner to be married, surely the Husband should have to pay or the state even after divorce. He did not pay for her labour in the form of nanny, housekeeper, cook, etc when they were married. Or the state should pay. If voluntary work was not done, the country would have to pay a lot more. Bringing up children and volunteering are important unpaid jobs.
It's why women in many cases get so much money in divorce settlements. It seems unfair on the face of it, but when you think about and what women gave to a marriage (often their childbearing years; often so much unpaid labour) - taking away enough money to look after themselves later (particularly if the man initiated the divorce) isn't a lot to ask.
You mean if a woman CHOSE to put her career on the backburner. It's true he did not 'pay' her for child raising, housekeeping, cook etc. But what he does pay for is the children, to food to cook and the house to keep. Have you ever been married? Have children? This is all voluntary. With you plant I wonder how long a marriage she last before a divorce after which the husband or the government has to pay the woman?

Too many women relied on their husbands for a home. The man leaves and the woman name is not on the deed. Society doesn't care about older broke women on the street. Easily said than done ;) If it was that easy, then a lot of men/women would have done so. Plenty of hardworking people that became homeless (or living paycheck to paycheck).

Takes a bunch of money to make a bunch of money. Most women in these type situations have had to beg for any dollar from their husbands for years and have no big bunches of money when they are found out on the streets. Not nearly as easy as you make it seem.
The idea of anyone older than 60 losing their home is so heartbreaking to me it’s unthinkable. Our governments spend shameful sums on ridiculous expenditures instead of taking care of people who have paid taxes all their life & contributed to our society.
This is a big problem in America. So many homeless. Single moms with children living in cars or tents, or worse on the street. Housing out of control expensive. We need studio apartments, stop building mansions when people are going homeless. America's homeless shelter has become the street. Our politicians do nothing. Housing and healthcare unavailable for many working class families and middle aged moms. America's top priorities making the Uber rich richer while the working class fall into disparity.
Our politicians don't do nothing. They line their own pockets, send billions of dollars to other countries, and reward illegal immigrants with welfare. They hate the average hardworking American citizen. And if a hardworking American citizen falls on hard times, they don't care.
Now happening in the U.K as well. The government has sold off some G.P. practices to American businessess. The NHS cannot afford to be paying profits to American shareholders. WTF!

Many aging women in Canada are experiencing the same housing dilemma. It’s truly frightening for the women and a travesty for a flourishing, contemporary society.
We need wage equality. Constantly underpaying women and then expecting them to take care of themselves at the end of their lives handicaps them from the beginning.
Those older women deserve better than this. Surly the Government could build more Social Housing this should not be happening in 2024. This is truly heartbreaking.💔 😢

I believe in saving .from a young age i saved whatever i can .i was taught this by my parents.this saving had brought me being single n own a small home n survived..
My parents spent every dime they earned, constantly had bill collectors calling and coming to the door I'd have to answer because they'd not yell at a kid. THAT taught me about finance. I was determined to NOT end up like they did. By 19 years old I had read dozens of financial books, when I earned my first $100. I hired a financial advisor. I worked and became a hairdresser bought a house, rental properties, stocks, mutual funds, saved and retired at age 45. My broke parents taught me how to become an everyday millionaire. Thank you, Dave Ramsey.
This is also a problem in the USA. Younger ppl need to be taught and see these types of clips and plan your future carefully. Always expect that you may be single or sick. Circumstances happen and you have to have a plan and be ready. Have safety, security and dignity in your future self. Don’t rely on anybody especially the government…😮
When l was still in the business world l saw & spoke to people who were older. And all l saw & felt negativity coming from our Seniors . That made me think & act about my own goden years. I always believed when you are old your are probably poor & sick. That was not what I wanted for me ,so i worked like heck ,didn't spend more than I could & on the whole was very careful about money. Whatever I own now lts all paid for, no debts only my property taxes and upkeep of the house & my utilities. You can't manage money if you don't have any. So you can make & always remember about that " rainy day "
This is the answer. Govt does not have enough money to support seniors (they live too long). Health care is astronomical, and can bankrupt anyone who has some money to lose.
They need to do something to protect these women. They will be abused on the street. Maybe the church. Maybe the government. But somebody needs to do something.
I am from the silent generation where a penny was a penny and most married women were not allowed to work. Women were not allowed to own much, but as a young person starting work I put money aside because I was always frightened of insecurity. Many older women today also, have been given a rough deal. Luckily I have always had a roof over my head and my heart goes out ❤ to those who are homeless. As an egalitarian society everyone deserves a roof over their head. Best of luck and i will say a prayer for you.
Trying not to be homeless is a lifelong problem and it can happen to anybody at anytime. A stroke of back luck, etc. I've always been responsible, yet I still worry about it constantly because I was raised very poor. It's a constant worry of mine. I never had any children as a result. My heart breaks for homeless people and animals, too. Stray animals break my heart looking for a home, food, water, love, acceptance. Life can be so cruel.
@@reneelibby4885 I’m just saying that men seem to be disposable, In my honest opinion that in such a wealthy country, no one person should be homeless, Alas it can happen very quickly for man woman and child
People have lost focus on true value of these women. The amount of knowledge and skills they have are undervalued it is a crime against nature and motherhood. How is it that they have nurtured a family done all of those jobs and still remain homeless. Community needs to change and value needs to be placed on those things that others take for granted.
I must have missed the documentary on older men who are homeless because they left their wives and children, or who failed to plan for old age. Oh wait...
Many millions are a health catastrophe/car breakdown/rent increase/etc away from being homeless .. Home ownership, being able to take a yearly vacation with family is not nearly as attainable as it was a few decades ago unfortunately.. The economy is so rigged and corrupt, it needs a major overhaul
All these tales about marriage being the contract where the men take care of their wives. Men do not take care of women. Through divorce, disease, etc, women are not taken care of. Women, please, whether you work or not, TAKE BETTER CARE OF YOUR DAMN FUTURE! Please!
I am with you ladies. I am in Iowa . 62 white female divorced. 1997 I was in a horrible marriage. My family was against my divorce and I had no choice. I was homeless from 97 to 2006. I went from upper income to poverty level with no credit or ability to support a expensive rent. I could not get into a women shelter as I have a domestic ticket from a fight with a bf This is huge problem. It's a world woman problem. All women need to come together. I am excited about this! Great message!!!!!!
Women will never come together. They will keep fighting over shitty men who will leave them for younger/prettier/more useful women as soon as they get the chance. Sad, but true.
Oh how I wish I had done better when I was young! I truly didn’t even think about this. I was taught you graduate high school, get married, and raise a family .
Homeless men are more visible. Homeless women are largely invisible. The stats actually show that women over 50 are the most rapidly growing numbers of homeless. The numbers of male homelessness has stayed the same.
Politicians(for the most part), multi million and multi billion dollar companies and corporations don't care at all. When the people around us are comfortable and not affected by this themselves, often they really don't get it or show much concern.

my father told me this way back when I was 6.
It's all well said but if you're in a marriage for many years your husband gets half and runs away with a younger woman
Oh stop it! Women have been relying on men to carry them financially for decades rather than being more independent, keeping their own investments separate, starting their own businesses. This is the direct result of women not giving 2 sh!ts about planning their future and security into old age.
Well done! Paying off your mortgage. Great reliance!

I knew an 85yr old woman who's worked her whole life and could only afford to rent a shared room in a sober living house. These types of houses stuff two people in one room and 4 beds in the master bedroom. This is the new normal in America. They've turned housing into jails.
There's more room in jails.
Better than living on the street!
This will never happen to cultures where families live together. They learned the skills of cooperation, compromise, compassion, and teamwork. It's not about individualism, but thriving and surviving well as a family group where no one is left behind alone.
But I tried that and they are all about themselves and yes you can have a roof over your head for the rest of your life but you will not be happy
@@Robert74450 That's why you need to choose which family member to live with. Maybe a relative or a friend is better. It depends on personality and character too.. But the point is to join forces with someone compatible.
Exactly! Families took care of one another. Native Americans lived like this.
And this is exactly why families have been split, it's by design.
Exactly! But posters above and probably below are full of blame and judgement. It's appalling.

When I was in high school I don’t remember them ever teaching us on retirement. I wish I had known. I would have done things so differently.
They taught us nothing about life at school...and neither did my parents. Sad.
Why don’t 2 or 3 older women get together to share a house and pool their resources ? It’s better than being homeless.
90% of the population, who are blood related, can't even pool their resources (for better financial management/growth) due to conflict of interest/personality. Now try doing it with non-blood-related people.
They are, but not houses, they are travelling together in motorhomes or similar

Many women (and) men in today's society are childless by choice so this problem will become magnified in the future...

@@loisaustin6200 sometimes it takes a decade or so of youth for them to start recognizing the value of their childhoods and home. Imagine the best of them in your mind. What you focus on is what you will see. I was nearly 50 years old before I realized my mom was right in many ways.
There are two sides to every story
I didn't become financially independent until I was in my late 30's, and I'm still in my 30's. In addition to having purchased my second home and earning money on a monthly basis through passive income, I've also achieved three out of five goals. I just hope this inspires someone to realize that it doesn't matter if you don't have any of these things yet, you can start today no matter your age. Change your future by investing! I made a rather big decision by investing in the financial market.
I agree with you and I believe that the secret to financial stability is having the right investment ideas to enable you earn more money, I don’t know who agrees with me but either way I recommend either real estate or bitcoin and stocks..
I keep wondering how people earn money in financial markets, i tried trading on my own made a huge loss and now I'm scared of investing more…

I am 71 and rent a studio apartment in a retirement village for $320 a week , it is wonderful, my children would have had me , but I wanted to be independent, also there are people my own age I can speak to , I am on the waiting list for social housing, but I am grateful I found this 👍
You know that you could rent an apartment in Thailand for a whole month for $320
I think this is shameful. Bringing up children and volunteering are important unpaid jobs.
good idea
It's why women in many cases get so much money in divorce settlements. It seems unfair on the face of it, but when you think about and what women gave to a marriage (often their childbearing years; often so much unpaid labour) - taking away enough money to look after themselves later (particularly if the man initiated the divorce) isn't a lot to ask.
@@sregan5415 it is too much to ask for these money and power greedy men
to them she should have been free worker!!
Couples should both plan for retirement. All assets held jointly.
Before you think of Divorce (man or woman) pick one:
1) Security and miserable.
2) Miserable and homeless.
In all too many cases marriage can be security & abuse & or security & violence.
Not quite true: I'm homeless but a man.
The amount of women who are "travelling homeless" with another woman, is staggering... It's own sector for tourism there are that many.
So choose your options:
1) Security & Miserable (marriage)
2) Adventurous and transient (travelling with friend)
Sometimes one doesn’t have a choice.
@@joycenesselhauf1220 Not making a decision is a decision in itself. You may not have ANY OTHER choices, but you still have to decide/choose whether to stay or go.

If it was that easy, then a lot of men/women would have done so.

@@loisaustin6200 never put yourself in a position where you have to beg a man for money
The idea of anyone older than 60 losing their home is so heartbreaking to me it’s unthinkable.
Our governments spend shameful sums on ridiculous expenditures instead of taking care of people who have paid taxes all their life & contributed to our society.
If governments didn’t continuously print gobs after gobs of money your purchasing power would allow you to finance your own old age.
WTF!
@@sarahstrong7174 the American politicians seem to think it's OK if people on the streets. Perhaps the American politicians deserve to live on the streets. Our healthcare and housing have been in shambles for a long time. Politicians ignore the issue.

Quite a good take on this ever-growing and such a concerning problem for many
Those older women deserve better than this. Surly the Government could build more Social Housing this should not be happening in 2024. This is truly heartbreaking.💔 😢
Why? They failed to prepare for retirement. Why is it the tax payers job?
Wow this was 8 years ago nothing much changed it’s worse. Any updates how theses ladies are doing?

Stop the plunder from Private Equity, Real Page, Walstreet and Hedge Funds from purchasing properties and price gouging. Housing should be safeguarded as Essential Social Infrastructure.
Sad,no one cares anymore,every man for themself😢🇦🇺
I believe in saving .from a young age i saved whatever i can .i was taught this by my parents.this saving had brought me being single n own a small home n survived..
Parents teach children about financial management.
Schools do not teach that !!!
Thank you, Dave Ramsey.
and the parents teaching financial management to their kids are as broke as me.
Living with my Adult Daughter, she has worked since 16 , right now cant afford rent on her own , either can I ,
They need to do something to protect these women. They will be abused on the street. Maybe the church. Maybe the government. But somebody needs to do something.
Churches don't do much
I am from the silent generation where a penny was a penny and most married women were not allowed to work. Women were not allowed to own much, but as a young person starting work I put money aside because I was always frightened of insecurity. Many older women today also, have been given a rough deal. Luckily I have always had a roof over my head and my heart goes out ❤

In my honest opinion that in such a wealthy country, no one person should be homeless,
Alas it can happen very quickly for man woman and child

Women will never come together. They will keep fighting over shitty men who will leave them for younger/prettier/more useful women as soon as they get the chance. Sad, but true.

Oh how I wish I had done better when I was young! I truly didn’t even think about this. I was taught you graduate high school, get married, and raise a family .
What àbout homeless men. I think you will find that their numbers are much greater.
It's not smart to depend on others to take care of you. It's best to develop yourself enough to be capable of creating the finances needed.
