The fourth secret is that infomercial and retail stores include huge markups. Infomercials have to charge seven times cost to make money and retail stores mark the price up fifty percent. That's why retail stores sell only the cheapest models around. The solution is to save hundreds of dollars by purchasing your air purifier directly from the manufacture.

What about air purifying plants? If you put them into a pot which ventilates the root system (like the one from AIRY), they are as much effective as a technical filter - but you don't have any additional costs (aside from some water and light).

Always good to have plants for indoor health. The bigger problem is the toxic load in most homes, and from outdoor air. Tough to get enough cleaning with plants alone.

You're right, one plant in a regular plant pot isn't that purifying. You would need a jungle in your home to have an effect, because they can just use their leafs. But NASA found out that the dirty air has to pass by the roots, if you want to get the full air purifying benefit of a plant. So if you're using a plant pot which ventilates the root system, you will get enough cleaning by plants alone.

How would this work at minimizing odors from when my cat doesn't cover his business? When he goes, the whole house needs to be fumigated! It was suggested to me that I place a HEPA filter near his kitty litter box.

HEPA does absolutely nothing for odor as nit only holds particles not gases. You'll want negative ion and electrostatic and maybe carbon for odor.

I am looking for something that will rid my apartment of dust and dirt in the air-ducts that don't seem to be clean and is constantly circulating through my heat/AC unit. This dust also contains drywall dust that is also below the laminate floors and wasn't cleaned up before the floors were laid, and so rises up when people walk on the floors.. I have to replace the hepa filters in my unit every couple of months!! And I have severe asthma.

The air ducts being dirty is tricky. Usually a 3m filtrete is the best you can do, and having someone clean the ducts of course.

I haven't ever owned one. Just a cheap on that swirled around water and you put an oil smell in it. But even the water was nasty after 2 days so I know it worked. Why is Ozone bad for us? I thought we needed the Ozone layer?

I know it sounds like a contraindication. While ozone is a substance produced in nature, with lightning for example, too much ozone by a machine can irritate tissue (lungs, airways). The ozone layer in the atmosphere however acts ike a filter for the shorter wavelength and highly hazardous ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun.

However.....I do like ozone from a machine for treating a room (when you're not in it). It works for mold, smoke and odor. I just don't use it for daily use.
