this album IS perfect. but aye, I talked to Christian at a show in Ohio, no joke, Housebroken isn't about domestic abuse, it's a big allegory or metaphor for how abusive and controlling police officers are lol, but everyone misunderstands it. And apparently, in his own words, "I'm uhhh.. just not the best at writing songs I guess ahah" Even though, I'd disagree, he's fantastic. But yeh I don't think they play that song live anymore because of it
Jacob Leitch very interesting, Christian was on a podcast called “The E Word Podcast” a month or two ago and said something that wasn’t too far off from that, but not exact. Gave kind of a different reason for not playing it, you should really check it out. They do a REALLY in-depth track by track. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment, Jacob that means the world to me. I hope you have an outstanding week.
@@NateTheMateForever thanks so much man, and yeah I've been meaning to check out The E Word lol Tbh you're probably right, he might've just given a quick answer because a few of us kind of swarmed him after the show and I could tell he wanted to retreat. But such a kind guy, and I got to smoke out the rest of the band (Christian is Sober) and they're all sweethearts, and heads up: if ya like Snowing, check out John Galm's current project, Bad Heaven Ltd., as well as if ur still reading, another more unknown podcast is "I might go to the beach" and a wonderful Galm podcast is up. John might be a good video topic 😉 But you have yourself a great week too dude, I'll keep on watching/liking the vids
So if I call Should I beg? Because I'm desperate here; A couple steps from the edge I can't seem to burn bright enough I'm cold and I'm left alone We're all alone
I’m in a longterm relationship with grief. My ex boyfriend overdosed & passed away last year - October 23rd. He is just one of the many people that I loved & lost to drug addiction. The most recent was my best friend in August. The worst was my current boyfriend’s sister October 19, 2015. Grief doesn’t make the best partner, but you get pretty tolerant to the pain as time passes by. If anyone cares to listen, I’ve got a few videos about grief & death on my channel. Anyway, my ex loved Hotelier. He was still making me mixed cd’s in 2014 before we split, and he included a bunch of their songs on the last one he gave me. Thank you so much for this. 💔
This album means so much to so many people. Its a truly wonderfully constructed album and I cant count how times its helped me through the worst times of my life. Seeing them live and having 300 sweaty 20 somethings crowd a small stage and scream An Introduction To The Album" the top of our lungs was pure catharsis and I cant thank The Hotelier enough for the raw emotion and healing that album provided for so many people.
Home, Like Noplace is There is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. the hotelier was willing to tackle topics with this album that other bands just couldn’t do the same. this album is an absolute masterpiece
@@NateTheMateForever haha thanks man! Also have you checked out any Aussie emo? There's some amazing stuff - Throw Me In The River by The Smith Street Band is a masterpiece, and everything by the band Ceres is awesome. Definitely captures that indie rock - emo crossover.
one of my favorite bands of all time, and HLNIT is so overlooked imo. I've only seen them 3 times, all of which where rlly short sets (college gig, festival, and solo-acoustic) but Christian is so talented and kind!! thanks for another great vid, my mate.
Wow , I checked out this album because of your video and I’m in love , it’s absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for putting me onto a great album and band
I have to say Nate, I have found your stuff very recently, and I’ve loved every single one. I am learning the meanings of the songs that I love and find out ways to explain in words of why I love them though you and your work. I’ve always appreciated all of the bands you have covered but never had the ability to communicate the reasons why. I appreciate what you are doing. Please keep it up.
Man, you never make a bad video. It also is super nice to be brought back to all these bands I've loved over the years but havent listened to in a while
I've loved this album since the day is was released, and it's stuck by me through all the hard times these last few years have had to throw at me. I loved your take on this iconic record!! keep making vids for all us pop punk kids, we really appreciate it xD
easily one of my favorite bands that came out of the emo revival. home was amazing, and goodness will always be one of my favorite cds.i want a new cd so much
They played an outside show in my hometown this past summer, got to meet Christian and fangirled so hard. this album is something extremely special and I love it! However, I don’t know why but I like Goodness more, Home got me listening and Goodness got me hooked. They will forever be one of my favorite bands 🙏
I am so glad someone decided to do an analysis on this album. it's one of the most underrated masterpieces of our generation. I am also very glad this channel exists. I feel emo and punk has been getting alotta flak from the general public so I am glad someone is doing a bang-up job showing people that art is genre-blind, and that it doesnt matter how one expresses said art, as long as it comes from somewhere real and true. I believe The Hotelier exemplifies that sentiment.
excellent video, fellow nate. i appreciate you doing this video. this album has been quite important to me over the years and i’m so glad to see that it has helped many others. you picked up on all the right aspects. christian really knows how to completely materialise the feeling of hurting in an exceptionally ethereal way and i think that is why i connect with this album so well. i’d love to hear your thoughts on next album, ‘goodness’ including ‘goodness, pt.1’! much love, fellow nate x
This album is like if you took the general themes from TDAGARIM, mashed it together with pop punk's classic music style, and turned the sadness up to 11
The scope of all things rebuilding , life in drag and dendron. Ones mega emo Ones pioneer screamo Ones pure anthem All 3 dig up memories from 2001 , when this type of music first came out. It's good to see so many other people who love and truly respect this band and album as much as me. Much love 💙
Great retrospective. Housebroken is about police brutality and authority, not an abusive relationship, however Edit: in your defense, they stopped playing the song live for a while as people were construing the lyrics as an allegory for abuse and he blamed his songwriting for not making it clear that it wasn’t
Hey Nate I hope all is well. Just saw that there are crazy wildfires going on. I hope they don't effect you or anyone you are friends with or related to.
i've said it before and i'll keep saying it until you do, do a video on hockey dad, slowly slowly, or the smith street band. and maybe a video on the short lived band "pwr bttm"
Jeffrechaun Emeritus which one would you want me to do first? I love all of those bands with the exception of slowly slowly. And it’s not that I don’t like them, just never listened or heard of them haah. Love you matey
@@NateTheMateForever slowly slowly is my favorite and despite being kind of popular in australia, hardly anyone in the states has heard of them, same goes for hockey dad. you'd probably have better luck doing a video on the smith street band. (bonus fun fact: i saw hockey dad in atlanta about 2 years ago and there were maybe 20 people at that show)
top 3 songs off Home?
Mine are Dendron, In Framing, and Among The Wildflowers
your deep rest, housebroken, among the wild flowers!

I've cried to this album in my college cafeteria on multiple occasions.
i am proud of you

agreed 100%
thank you nate for making a couple modern baseball videos that turned into a gateway of more emo/pop punk
small creature I hope to turn this channel into a gateway for emotional music in general. We’ll call it “mate gate”

Guess I'm buying the album then

Avenue Teal Hahahaha this actually made me lol 😂
You should do one on the down fall of Lou Diamond from pannuciis pizza, jank and Fail Better, Heal Faster.
i remember those bands haha
And the whole conflict between being able to separate art and bad decisions the artists made
