The evolution in moto tires since i started watching in the early 2000's is wild. Guys are so much faster, for many reasons, but tires are a big part of it
Change the start not the tire IMO. Get rid of the grate and don't keep tilling the start all the time. Bring back some of the skill set we've lost and the separation you earn with a better gate pick. Safer first turn too.
Make a tire that's scoop, knobby, scoop, knobby, so it's both, not the best start against full scoop and maybe not the best race against full knobby but seems like it would be worth a shot for compromise

It's 2024, all FI should be closed loop. I haven't touched an open loop system in a decade, in reality MX is just 10 years behind the tech in other industries.
The electronics are only going to get more advanced...to the point that the AMA won't be able to tell what's going on if they're not already in that situation now.

Get rid of a tire design? That ridiculous! Everyone has the choice to run what they feel is an advantage for them. They have an advantage on the start but not for the rest of the race, or risk a bad start but have the advantage for the entire moto. Pick your poison
Ban the scoop, easy. These riders are compromising a whole moto for just the first 5 sec of a race. Agree with sand of course but tracks like Pala nope.
I agree on getting rid of scoops. The only reason they run it is for a leg up off the start. But if one fast guy runs it every one has too or there’s no shot of the start. Sand track sand tire, sand tire for deep start no good. Better track prep.
Who cares what tire. Its not like its a tire that only a few guys can have. Eli uses that tire every where and only practice with it. Its either get a good start and if it was such a disadvantage then a tenth should be doable with a different tire.
If the start pretty much determines the race then the whole thing is fucked. Holeshots should be awesome to do but not determine the entire event. Why even have a bunch of track at that point. Its just a glorified drag race with a big twisty jumpy ride back to the start line.
It's just a tire if you want to run it run it if you don't don't we're getting so picky now we're going to Outlaw certain tires Dunlop makes them for a reason

Fuck the scoop off, makes 0 sense if it’s a hard pack track, There should be an allocated tyre to each event with an option to change if conditions change
@@fk4410 track position of the start is that important at some tracks that it’s better to deal with the scoop for the race, but then it becomes the point where everyone is using the scoop just to enhance there start, so get rid of the scoop and its equal playing field, safer racing and better racing

Personally, I think that we should run motos in groups of 5 and best overall time wins. pair the 5s based on a solo qualifying lap, and keep everyone very close, but it would be a much more intense sport for the spectator, and you could actually watch everyone run. Problem is the track changes, but maybe we run the 5 slowest first, something different anyway.

We raced mx nationals at Maitland on the weekend. Hard packed track every body ran a paddle as start straight was deep and muddy
