@@melaniescountrycooking I wish I could actually get haddock where I live. I have to make this recipe with tilapia. Not the same, but I put some crab meat in to try to replace the richness.
I don't use bacon in any seafood dish including clam chowder. Shrimp or clam juice well seasoned, unsalted butter. I'm afraid bacon would overpower the dish. Does it?
Hi! I don''t feel the bacon overpowers the chowder, but I love bacon! LOL I have also used salt pork. Let me know if you make it and if you use the bacon or not and how it was. Thanks so much for watching! I am interested in hearing your opinion!
@@melaniescountrycooking Oh I love bacon too but not in a seafood chowder and I've made many. I asked my wife who is from China how they cook their seafood dishes. When I said bacon with seafood her jaw dropped. They do use a tiny amount of pork fat bc dairy products such as butter are very expensive if you can find any. But they do not put any pork in a seafood dish. Nor do I. I see alot of recipes using it but I just want the taste of seafood. I live in a small NE town in Ohio, actually very close to the train derailment, and while we have good quality pork roast, it's minimal fat, no salted pork anywhere. I use various seasonings but I'm a butter guy. I serve everything with a side dish of Lipitor and a Stent.
@@ohioguy215 Haha Lipitor and a Stent! We live in New England so we pretty much have quick access to fresh seafood! When we travel to Florida we find it very hard to find "fresh" seafood! So very sorry about the train derailment. We have been seeing it on TV here and it is just terrible. We hope you and everyone in that area are safe and get some answers soon.
@@melaniescountrycooking Thanks Melanie. Wind has blowing from the NW the whole time ... we're good, thank you. I lived in VT and CT in the 70's and 80's. That's God's country. Thanks for your videos.
@@ohioguy215 Great that you are ok!! I have lived in NH my entire life and can't imagine living anywhere else! Thanks for watching our videos! It is very much appreciated!
I thought it was a little strange to be putting a carrot in fish chowder too, BUT it does add a lot of flavor and you really don't even know it's there because it gets cooked down. You can definitely leave it out! Thank you for watching! It is very much appreciated!
Making this today, very excited!
I hope you love it! Thank you for watching! :-)

@@doctorteethomega We are very lucky to be able to get fresh haddock here! Crab meat sounds good too!
I’ve lived in NE for most my life, never seasoned fish chowder like that but seems tasty.
Thanks so much for watching Isaiah! My nana always made it this way!

Used striped bass I caught In Chesapeake Bay last fall
Sounds good Ed! Thanks so much for watching!
1) bacon; 2) onion, celery(3-4 min), blak pepper, oregano, thyme, bay leaves, red pepper flakes, chicken broth, carrot, potato, flour,
Dill
No salt????
We personally do not like a lot of salt, but feel free to add it! The bacon gives it enough saltiness for us. Thanks so much for watching!
You had me until you put carrot into the soup!!! No carrots!! That is not typical New England..

No pepper no oregano no chick stalk no carrots. NOT NEW ENGLAND FISH CHOWDER. AWFUL
Hi Charlene! Sorry you don't like the recipe. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
terrible
New England chowder does not burn your mouth with pepper. Crazy
Charlene, You can leave the pepper out. We use more pepper than salt usually! Thank you for watching!
