    This is how cosmetologists hold their shears. It gives you better control over the cut.

    I was taught by a guest art teacher in elementary school to hold scissors with your middle finger instead of index (pointer) finger you have so much more control and less fatigue even with larger scissors with the oval. It also allows for your index finger to guide the scraps.

    I have cut hair for nearly 38 years, talk about "fussy cutting," and scissors placed this far down the fingers may improve your control of the cut but will exacerbate the possibility of carpal tunnel. If you do a lot of cutting, doing it with a "relaxed as possible" hand will help to reduce the stress of this repetitive motion.
