tbh, they weren't really able to line it up well in D. I never read the translation, but there were only 2 Megazone 23 devoted missions from what I can remember from playing it.
Type-0 Universe no, I believe they get replaced with the invaders from getter armageddon in the mission where bd and shogo escape Megazone23 and meet up with the rest of the super robot forces.
The Garland/Proto Garland is the only unit in the game (worth doing so, anyway) that can be upgraded at the maximum rate at the cheapest rate. Shogo is a decent pilot - nothing outstanding, compared to Amuro - and towards the end you can easily do 7-8000 damage per hit with him. Plus, ROCK CAFE is the best BGM.
I always found it more useful to give it the critical bonus myself. At full power, all he needs are bodybags and a post-battle New Coke. Guaranteed 9000+ damage against everything that isn't a boss, and 4 item slots means that ...actually, I just gave him the Armor Breaker and let him run wild. Good times, kickass BGM, 'HISSHOH' headband - that's all you need!
Has only two attacks - physical and the beam gun. The physical attack has no energy/ammo requirements; the beam gun has 10 ammo. (Proto Garland gets the 'Trash' motorcycle gang attack; it's the most powerful, but has only 3 ammo.) Long story short, there is absolutely no reason to give it a M. Craft for flight, a range-increaser and a crit increaser, the Armor Breaker special weapon, fully upgrade it (most cost-effective unit in the game) - and then use it in every level possible.
Can't tell you much but it is very cheap to upgrade the Garland's weapons. I managed to upgrade it's weapons fully after the following stage by constantly using the lucky seishin. The Garland is extremely good at dodging. It will be very useful in the later stages when the enemies can waste your Supers in a few hits. So the best advice is to upgrade it's weapons to the max and it's evade as well. Some stats items will also help.
B.D's Zame=Zau has ranged weapons (that eat up EN), but B.D himself doesn't have the Concentrate seishin. The Z=Z doesn't get an upgrade, and is weaker than the Proto Garland, so I never really used it. That's not to say it's useless - it's a decent second-stringer - but it just doesn't fill a particular need as well as the Garland does.
What exactly are the stats of the Proto-Garland? I've been considering using Shogo in later missions (even though his mech isn't exactly that great, his theme's just too badass to ignore), but I'm not sure what the stats of the Proto are. Is there anyone who can tell me it's starting and/or maxed stats and weapons? Thanks in advance.
I'll put it this way. The Proto-Garland is HAX. All you need to do is shell out the funds to max out its attack strength and give it the +20% accuracy bonus, and you don't have to do anything else except let Shogo kill stuff. Which he will be the KING at.
Wait, what? You are telling me that two-parter effectively begins and ends the Megazone storyline? And I though the Getter Armageddon storyline was rushed.
@FurnaxIkki Don't forget about carrying four option parts at once. ...which makes no damn sense on an SS-size unit. And I totally agree that he is the KING at killing stuff. Especially in the second part of the penultimate level.
Garland stats: crap HP, crap Armor, HOLYCRAP agility, four parts slots. Can't take a hit, but it's not going to GET hit either, and anything it can't do can be covered by parts. Cheapest cost to upgrade (of 5 cost ranks), yet upgrades at the highest rate (of 3). Due to the damage formula in SRW D being more dependent on the pilot's defense stat than in any other game, Shogo can deal decent damage to bosses when upgraded, despite being an average pilot at best. Proto is even more powerful.
you'd find that most macross mechs or macross similar mechs are designed like that in super robot wars, their meant to be fast and can deal good damage but comes at the cost of their armor.
@payasofobia The original OVA w/Shogo was 2 episodes long, mostly character interactions - it's not something that's easily adapted to a turn-based game. A console SRW might be capable of adapting the storyline more effectively than the GBA, though... Also, EVE herself plays a part in the endgame, even if the Megazone itself is grounded.
Oh how I wish Megazone 23 would show up in an SRW again.
i agree, i really liked to see how the plot integrates with the other mech stories as well as see some unanswered in the original series get answered.

you mean those crazy buzzsaw enemies don't appear at all?
Type-0 Universe no, I believe they get replaced with the invaders from getter armageddon in the mission where bd and shogo escape Megazone23 and meet up with the rest of the super robot forces.
They could add it again in a game where Code Geass is also in. Story kinda works together.
戦闘シーン、ここを切り取ってBGMにしたのはセンスいい😊

Which means that I’m absolutely gonna do that when I play this, right?

このスパロボはガーランドいれば大体何とかなるからな……
誰やねん
いまとなっては天使はいない!
Shogo performed better in this game than in the anime he was the star of.
I just like the music -_-
改造したらかなり強くなりますよね。宇宙ステージでバイクのまま出撃させてズールにトラッシュ使ってました( ´∀`)

good man... Shogo is my favourite mecha in the game .... and ........ 10 POINTS
I wish Yahagi Shogo show up in Megazone 23 Part III in SRW again because Shogo will bromance with the new guy name Eiji with a new Garland.
i understand the MC stands for MotorCycle but wats the MS stand for?
+Raziel D. Vega motorsickle?
Actually, the MC stands for "Maneuver Craft" and the MS is "Maneuver Slave"
And yes I just replied to a 6 years old comment
Hm... what senario number is this?
Wait, what? You are telling me that two-parter effectively begins and ends the Megazone storyline?

ゴッドゾーン24だとゆってぃ
Scenario 18 or 19 depending on which route you took at the start of the game.
BDはそんなことはいわないおもうw お命頂戴てw
So the first half of the mission is the flashback of half year ago?
@FurnaxIkki

Alright. Thanks. ^_^
I just got there, and well, Shugo is totally kickass for just that stage... X3

I manage it to permanent bd in my team by doing rush kill before he escape
