Soooo we just pretendin' that Florio wasn't giving oxygen to all of the 'trade JJ' rumors when the Vikings have a history of getting these kinds of deals done closer to minicamp/training camp instead of in April?

The whole Malik thing was absolutely made up. The national takes on JJ and Cousins have been consistently wrong. The Vikings have said throughout that JJ was going to get paid and he did. They also had a plan to draft a QB in this class for two years and they let Cousins go and picked a QB in round 1 … and they also got a 1st round edge while still keeping next year’s 1st. KAM has been is killing it ever since he got rid of Donatell and added Flores.
A great WR is worthless without a good QB to go with it.

I try to give Florio the benefit of the doubt. Like, I'm 36 and the Vikings have never played in a super bowl in my life time. I imagine Florio has been traumatized by the super bowl losses in the 70's and now he's way harder on the team than he really should be. Having said all that though, spreading the rumor that Minnesota tried to trade up for Nabers is a super bad look.

Jefferson is a big time difference maker who deserved to get paid but his massive new deal could make things difficult when other players are in line to get paid.

With a new QB in the house, a couple good receivers to help a rookie grow/develop is the common theory going around the league. Paying a high performer also is good for team and fan moral. With the loss of Cousins, I think the fan base will still feel solid and very hopeful with the extension of Jefferson.
You always only view the contract negotiation from the team perspective and blame them for not locking players up early, but ignore the fact that they can't force the player to sign. If it's only going to get more expensive to sign an elite player, then what incentive does that player have to sign early? From their perspective, they play one more year and then get more money by simply waiting. Unless the team offers some insane contract that the player can't refuse, but then the team isn't saving any money by locking them up early.

trading JJ on draft night would have been impossible, because there was no extension in place, a team would not trade without knowing how much they would have to pay JJ. The whole thing was a smoke screen to make sure the Giants took Nabers and did not take a QB.
I listen because I like the level of detail and I also like that he talks about some things that others don't. But I don't have to agree with him about everything nor do I expect to. Sometimes I turn him off when I disagree with his takes...but I always return in a couple of days because I like his approach to talking about football play, players, business, the draft, exploitation of college players by large universities and so on. He talks about the kangaroo court, gambling and how the league manages its business.
