Don't hear many people mentioning that Daunte Culpepper sat his entire rookie season and it worked out pretty well.
he got lucky throwing deep balls to moss and then blew his knee out he wasnt a true franchise qb. first year he played with Carter and moss and it takes a while to figure a guy out. his 2nd and 3rd years he turned the ball over so much. honestly without moss he is mediocre at best. it was cool to watch him run over guys but it was just as likely he would fumble

He did not sit his rookie year- that’s false
He sat behind Jeff George. He had one season that might have been the greatest fantasy season ever, crazy combined numbers passing and running.
Remember Darnold went 8-9 with the Panthers mostly without CMC, and had Brady and the Bucs on the ropes in Tampa week 17 in 2022, in what turned out to be the division deciding game. The Panthers D folded under Brady and Evans giving up 200 yards and 3 TDs.
Remember the 49ers gave up on Trey Lance to keep Darnold. I recommend watching either of Darnold's 49er appearances, where you will see that he as become a very efficient and effective QB.
It's funny how many in the National media talk like Mcarthy is the man right out of the gate. I don't think you can tell anything in OTA. Donald might just be a better QB. McCarthy has all summer to catch up to him. If McCarthy can do that. He should start. That being said I would love to have the 3rd Pick Darnold if he can live up to that.

Tired of hearing that JJ is going to be taking over by week 6, I really don't see that happening. Even Aaron Rodgers sat for a couple of years and he is pretty good.
That's because the national media thinks the Vikings will be the moronic jets and throw JJ to the wolves. Which is the opposite of their plan.
I have no problem with letting McCarthy settle in to the Vikings situation by sitting for a few games or even the whole 2024 season over being
thrown to the wolves.

If we get Brock Purdy-level performance out of Darnold, I think we could make a wildcard. Either way, I'm happy to wait for McCarthy until KOC is ready to hand him the keys.

They always say, "Defense wins Super Bowls." But honestly depth wins Super Bowls. Look at the Cheifs roster, or the 49ers. Any of those deep rostered teams pending key injuries always seem to make it to the final dance

I'm sure for a GM who has had 2 out of 3 bad drafts, and a coach who is sliding down the division, It would be beneficial for these 2 to stretch out JJ time as long as possible. You made the guy your franchise QB pick. Sounds like your already tossing this year away so he can watch 2 journeymen QB's do his job. So regardless, he is your starting QB in 2025. Then your timeline starts as coach and GM.

I thought Addison, TJ Hockenson, Blackmon was a pretty decent haul.
We still don't know how the 2022 draft will turn out.
Most draft classes only produce one starter, and maybe a rotational player. Even the 2022 class has already done that with Ingram and Chandler, and it's likely that most of Cine, Booth, Evans, Nailor, Asamoah will make the roster and contribute.
Why are some folks so impatient?
It seems like if Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love were on the Vikes roster, half the Vikes fan base would have cut them after year 2.

The beauty of this season will be the lack of expectations. Open up the playback, take chances on both sides of the ball and work on player development. Almost like a true 1st season for the coaching staff and front office. We will start to see what everyone in the building is capable of and how good they are.
Darnold is in a prove it season for his own career and has every reason to excel based on that alone. Let McCarthy sit. If Darnold stinks oh well. But I have a feeling he's going to do whatever it takes to get a starting job after this season.
I think Sam is going to shock the nfl. How long did Steve young sit behind Montana. How many years did Favre sit. How long did Bree’s take to come to fruition. 3-4 yrs on average. Sam is the man as he was promised to be just shit situation. Will be better than Kirk. Mark my words. Let the best man win. Sam ain’t old and no injuries.

The fact that McCarthy is working on a separate field basically as the one just tells me they want him to get a 1 work load but not take away from the guy they expect to be the starter to open the season. It would be silly to do otherwise. This way he gets the workload to immerse himself in the playbook and the time to work out the kinks without all the pressure of a non existent competition.

I think Darnold should start this season, but I see his ceiling being around Baker with Tampa. At that point just let another team sign him to a multi year and ride with McCarthy for the future

Darnold balls it up, but JJ looks amazing in practice. We trade Darnold for a decent pick and roll the rest of the way with a better QB.
I don’t think they want to go to NFC Champs game with Darnold because he’s gonna ask for big money. I am thinking plan A is they start JJ. No reason why he wouldn’t be ready in 3 months

The track record on 21 year old day one starters is quite abysmal. Look no further than future Vikings legend Sam darnold. Sitting JJ for as long as you can is the right move
People like to try and polish Brad Johnson, but I don't think his peak was as high as Trent Dilfer's peak.
I haven't look at their stats, both won a super bowl with a great defense, but I would venture to say Brad Johnson was a significantly better QB than Dilfer.
Well if they make sam darnold look good, that means they can make McCarthy look good. Dont see anyway they re-sign him after the year unless they dont like what they see from McCarthy
if Sam is doing really good during season and JJ is coming a long well and Vikings think he will be starter next year. How could Vikings get something for Sam if he having a very good year or would he just walk away and Vikings get nothing like a lot of their veterans

Its important to remember that if mccarthy needs 4 years to acclimate to rise above third string, we have to be thankful that we moved in from Kirk
J.J Mcarthy shouldn't see the field his first year. If Sam Darnold has a great year, Wonderful! You know he was screwed royal by the jets, And Carolina had nothing. This is the best team he's likely to ever play with if they live up to their potential, And the coaches do their jobs well. J.J is the next ten or fifteen years if he is brought along correctly, And not forced into the fire too soon. Skol!

How to obliterate all hope in a fanbase in one sentence. May as well start the 2025 mock drafts now. With a healthy JJ and Kirk,. last year's squad IMO was a 10-win team. This year if Darnold starts all season they're winning 5. Might work out great for 2025>, but 2024 is done.
If McCarthy looks good in camp, Mullins gets traded, and McCarthy made the #2 to get him on the active roster. Or else he's practice squad bound.
No way they will put McCarthy on the practice squad. Any other team in the league can poach a player from your practice squad as long as they put him on their active roster. If they keep Mullens as the back up, McCarthy will be on the active roster as QB#3.
