Baya Weaver Bird in the process of nest building.
The nest on the left is a complete one, with the Exit Tube used for the ingress and egress of the birds into/from the nest (often with chicks inside).
The one on the right is the 'Helmet Stage'. It is the males who build the nest, and the females inspect the nest at the Helmet Stage to assess its worthiness for the protection and upbringing of the eggs and chicks. If the nest is found 'unsuitable', the females break the 'Pair Bonding', and the male then start building another nest from scratch.
What a hard life for the males!
