Yes they were rotted out, when I come to fit up the front bumper I will drill the holes and add some crush tubes. Just debating whether to straighten the bumper out or get a replacement.
Can I ask what welding equipment / wire / gas you are using. I'm about to start playing with the 'ole electric glue myself, and as I've not used my welder for several years, I suspect I need to buy some new wire.
I use a sealey turbo 185 mig welder with argon co2 mix gas, 0.8mm wire. If you get it set up to where its blowing holes then turn the power down until it isn't blowing holes and the weld has decent penetration into the metal you should be fine. If welding on the chassis you should be able to turn the power up more.
I think there should be some crush tubes in the front of the dumb irons to bolt the front bumper through.
Nice old S2
Nice repair

Nice bud. Thanks for sharing. Anymore rust repair videos?
Hello, yes I'm working on some more, will hopefully have more parts for the series 2 soon too. Thanks
Excellent job on the dumb irons. Where’d you get the replacement irons? They look great and heavy duty.
Hey thanks, I got them through a supplier on ebay they were well made and fitted up well.
