    Had exactly the same issue on my 2021 model. Had it done by HGB Honda in London, they wanter to charge me for that but didn’t after little argument thats that os not my fault and it shouldn’t happen on less than a year old bike.
    Now (July 2022) just drove 2000miles and got lose again in my midd tour…
    Thanks to you Max i can now go to the local garage and get this tighten so I can finish the other half of my trip.
    Thanks!

      Yessir! Safe Travels! When you get back you need to go to the dealer and have the "proper" inspection procedure done, or do it yourself if you don't trust them. There is a Honda Service Bulletin #1 in Feb of 2019 that explains what the dealer is supposed to do.

    Per service bulletin from honda a 22mm socket with swivel and extension to hold the spindle

    Well I like that you take the time to show us how to fix the bike.. If these issues were to arise. Just would suck if you were 1000 miles away from home.
    No thanks .
    Nice to see you feeling better, my grandmother loves to make me some root ginger tea anytime I have those annoying coughs .. nothing like family.
    Ride safe.

    Interesting to see how the Loose Steering progressed from this video.

      It took Honda a while to figure it out. They were using the torque spec from the 2001-17 steel stemmed triple clamps on the aluminum spindle on the 2018s. This was too much torque and was crushing the threads, damaging the spindle. We make a stainless steel aftermarket replacement part for those who want it.

      @@Traxxion I recently purchased a used 2018 Wing and my salesman sent me a photo of the bike in the transportation truck. The handlebars were strapped down. I freaked, posted on the Wing rider's forum, and got blasted! Then someone posted the video of you standing on the handlebars. Whew, all will be good! Then as I watched more videos, that sinking sick feeling settled back in. The bike is still in the shipping process so all I can do is wait. Look for my order of a new spindle if things go wrong. :)

    The more I look at these videos, the more seems that this new front suspension on the new GW may be a can of worms.

    Max, you do excellent work!! With just a bit of budget and time, you could invest in an IT person to handle your videos. Your detailed info is on point, factual and informative. The videos could use a little more love.

    Honda seems to be taking a page out of Harley’s play book. Build it cheap and Bata test shit on customers. Not cool man.

    As before : disconcerting that so many quality issues on a new flagship bike.

    What brand impact, setting, and psi? Did you check torque after doing it to get a rough idea of what you got it to? 30 to 50 ft/lbs or more? Thanks

      Max McAllister . Fits perfectly into my shadetree mechanical training from ages 14 to 25. ;) if I ever get a call from Russellville. Eventually I plan to make our second trip to Woodstock. I know it distracts employees. But due you ever have a client participation fee. I'd love to get some wrench time and tribal knowledge from you guys.

    what the heck has happened to honda quality control......this is very depressing to see all these issues with a new expensive bike and with no miles having to fix front end and suspension issues right out of the box from the factory.

    Thanks Max for letting us know how much the new 2018 Goldwing is a big bit of garbage!! Quality control at Honda has gone down the crapper!
    Perhaps I need to wait on the 2019 model. Very sad indeed!

    • @michaejlt
      @michaejlt 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it seems that this bike was not ready for prime time. The gentleman below has mention and agreed that Honda put this bike out for Beta testing so they can find out what needs to be improve on the next model year. Your recent videos has really open my eyes to this bike...that Honda rush out this new re-designed Wing without testing it out thoroughly before releasing it out to the public. For me, I will not buy this bike... I will look elsewhere...perhaps BMW. Good day...

      michajlt; All manufacturers have had these kind of things happen. and your dealer is more than happy to fix the problem. how ever you have to give them a chance to do so. I used love to do warranty work.I got paid and you didn't have to pay me. win win.

    • @michaejlt
      @michaejlt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agreed that some or all of the issues are on the assembly line technicians at the Honda Kikuchi Plant I believe. They moved from Marysville, Ohio Plant back to Japan in 2009. Question is why? Have the Japanese workers at Honda lost their dedication on excellence? Very sad if they did...

    • @michaejlt
      @michaejlt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lawn Ranger, Thanks for your response. I have viewed over 25 plus videos from other folks out there on youtube. I agreed most loved the new Wing. However that doesn't excuse the assembly issues. Spending $30,000K on a bike with GPS issues that do not work properly, or it will only work properly with Apple devices. Don't get me wrong...I owned two Goldwings in the past. They were not perfect bikes, however I never had one problem with the them. Put over 100,000 miles each on them and never went to the Honda repair shop, other then normal routine maintenance/oil changes. I just expect more from Honda. Take care and ride safe.

      Lawn Ranger...my first Goldwing was an 1976 GL-1000. I installed after-market Vetter Windjammer Fairing, and rear air shocks. Love that bike! My second Goldwing was 1989 GL-1500. Love that bike too. Had to sale both of my Goldwings due to oversea's Military Service commitments, so I couldn't take them with me. Hey it is a free country, and you can buy anything you want sir. Enjoy your future 2018 Goldwing. I want to buy another Goldwing sometime soon, I will wait until the 2019 model comes out and hopefully they will update and fix some of the problems on the 2018. Take care...

      My wife recently commented to me, "How come every time a Harley rides with us we have to have it towed home?" We've never been towed home and I'm on my third Goldwing...fourth in our household. (My twenty year old son owns one also.)
