2018 Goldwing handlebar shake

  • I've seen a some chatter on Goldwing forums about handlebar wobble or shake. This only happens to me at about 45mph when I take my hands off of the handlebars. It's worse going down hill than it is on flat or up hill. I hope all that is needed is tightening the steering bearings. I'll find out in a few days when I take the bike in for service.

    Well that sucks. If you bought it with those tires I would hope that they replace them with at least a discount

      They said there was nothing to worry about. I'm pretty sure the guys on here saying its the tire are right. So, we'll see in 4k miles or so when I change the tire.

    I own a 2018 Goldwing Tour with 22k miles on it. I invested in The Centramatic Wheel Balancers (see Link) when I noticed the same shake on my bike. I think it was right before my 4k check up. It has helped a lot (not totally gone) but waaaay better.cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1800_centramatic_wheel_balancer/76/59906

    This is normal happens to just about every motorcycle. Your front tire is likely worn. Different brands of tires do it more or less. It’s caused by the harmonic frequency of the materials and rolling masses. Nothing to worry about or fix.

    I don’t have that issue or never had it on my bike with 14k on it. I would just replace the tires all together. My bike came with Dunlop’s that sucked. They lasted 9.5k. The Bridgestones are so much better. I bet that wobble affects your gas mileage.

    I believe you would be right. Sounds like the same issue that the prior GL1800's had with their steering bearings. Even though this front end is different, I have heard of at least one 2018+ Goldwing that had the steering bearings loosen up with very low mileage. Unless you have a really great dealer, I would not be surprised that they tell you it is a maintenance item and you will have to pay to have it adjusted, and on this bike, unless they know of the shortcut to move the ignition switch panel out of the way, a lot of plastic has to come off.

    • @motorcyclemikeal3376
      @motorcyclemikeal3376  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, that's the only thing I don't like about the Goldwing... So much plastic to remove to get inside.
