To all the people complaining about the exhaust, there is an easy fix. Put an aftermarket exhaust. If you can afford a Mclaren 720S then you can also afford an exhaust. I recommend Fabspeed's Mclaren 720s exhaust ;)
Regarding americans complaining on soundtrack: this is V8 of flatplane layout - that means racy, professional, european style, high revving V8 consisting of two inline 4 on common crankshaft. Typical crossplane V8 revs lower, has heavier crankshaft, uneven ignitions and therefore burbles
Mark Williams Sound is a matter of opinion :) if you have correct ear you can easily distinguish inline 4 from harmonically doubled flatplane v8. Crossplane..hmm..everyone knows how they burble but listen to all race cars, LMP1, LMP2, 918 spyder, gt350 shelby, all ferraris, all mclarens...they sound exactly the way 720 does. Ok naturally aspirated are more pitchy, turbos dampen the note

I like how the cars sounds. Just going along the gearbox accents the very smooth engine note. The silky smooth sounds hide the intense power until the wind noise and turbo spool. I bet Mrs. Owner would find it very satisfying.
Fast? No doubt. But, not for me, just lacks emotion and sense of occasion. With this thing, you can drop it down to 2nd, punch it and you still won't be able to hear anything from the engine. I guess I am just a naturally aspirated guy through-and-through. Go to 6:10 in the following clip, Shmee150 dropped it down to 2nd and punched it to 6,000 rpm, nothing, just nothing, like if it was a log. Sure it is fast, but that's just not enough for me. We have five senses, to begin with the McLaren design language is already boring enough although the 720S is probably their best attempt to date, still it is just lacking somewhat. Personally it sounds whatever, and a supercar like that shouldn't sound whatever. It just doesn't sound good, and he's making a comment about that after watching the video and listening to the car. Jürgen Nowax In terms of sound crossplane V8 sounds much better - this sounds like a wheezy 4 cylinder engine. Not a nice sound at all.
AMG, Maserati, Lexus and Jaguar all have crossplane V8s and the all sound better than the 720S
