Its just amazing when i see folks from this generation see Alan Rickman and immediately say Harry Potter. For me and my generation, it was Hans Gruber playing Snape in Harry Potter.
He is, and will forever be, Hans Gruber. However, I think we should all just be happy that we got to watch him play ANY ROLE, because Alan Rickman was a treasure... a gift to Acting and to us. So many iconic roles, great performances... Great Man. Great Actor. RIP Alan Rickman
"That was so close". The stunt in the elevator shaft was an accident they kept in the film as the stunt an missed to shaft. He wasn't hurt but it added that element of, 'this hero isn't a perfect God, just a regular guy who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances :) Similar thing with Han's expression when he falls at the end. They told Rickman they drop him on the count of three... and then dropped him on one. Hell of a performance for Rickman's very first movie :)
I'm sorry, but I you're wrong. Saying "Rickman's very first movie" anyone would think it was his first performance, and it was far, far from it. Rickman had already performed in more than a dozen plays over a decade, and had also starred in two TV miniseries. Even if you think only of movies, his performance in "Die Hard" had not been his first. He had already acted in two films before, with a modest budget, which were broadcast directly on TV. So in 1988 he was already a well-known actor in theater, and also experienced before the cameras. "Die Hard" was, quite simply, his first appearance in a big-budget movie, in a blockbuster.
I remember vividly the night my dad rented this on VHS. The night it was released he knew it would be rented at all of the video stores. So we went to a camera store and it turns out they rented videos but it was the best kept secret in town. We rented Die Hard and got a couple of pints of ice cream. I was 11 years old and it was a hell of a night.
For your generation, he is Snape. For my generation, Alan Rickman was always Hans Gruber. He was amazing, elevated meh and bad movies with his presence.
@@transientanus I mean, it even snows bearer bonds at the end.... Doesn't get more Christmas than that. But really, the Christmas theme of the movie is a separated family trying to spend Christmas together and the hurdles they have to overcome to do so.
@Move_I_Got_This Well you and Bruce Willis are both wrong. Just because he was in the movie doesn't mean his opinion of it is valid. A movie doesn't have to be released around Christmas in order to he a Christmas movie. Who tf made that rule?
Whether this is a Christmas movie depends on your definition. It is not about Christmas, but it does take place during and at a Christmas party with Christmas themes woven into the story and especially the music. That’s good enough for me.

Along with Tom Selleck and the beautiful Laura San Giacomo (other movies: Pretty Woman, Sex Lies & Videotape ... and played Maya Gallo on the NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me!). What a great movie !!!

She's lucky. I'd have sued her for custody of the chiildren citing unfit parenting, and then told her to enjoy her cats.
the great Alan Rickman created an anthology character with his Hans Gruber. As a fact, in the scene when he falls from the building, the face he makes is truly frightened because they didn't tell him that he was falling behind the scenes. This movie is still entertaining to watch and is always shown on TV at Christmas.

Something that a lot of people watching this movie forget is that hiring an illegal alien housekeeper is a BAD thing, which makes Holly Gennero/McClane a BAD person. Not Hans Gruber-level bad, but still, pretty bad. Also, remember that this movie was based on the novel "Nothing Lasts Forever," and Holly's character is the replacement for the book's character Stephanie Gennaro, who is established as being quite unscrupulous. So that's one aspect of her character from the book that the filmmakers had to carry over to the movie.

By the way, Die Hard counts as a Christmas movie. And yes. It’s true. Why? Because it takes place on Christmas. And the hero gets a Christmas miracle and saves the day. 🤣🤣🤣🎄
Thank you for saying it's a Christmas movie. My thoughts exactly. It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off the Natomic building. People, you see? These beautiful women, watching this movie for the first time, says the same. John's wife is named Holly, it happens on Christmas eve, Christmas is mentioned a lot of times throughout the entire movie and Christmas music is played as well. So forget about it, it's only an action, thriller movie that just happened during Christmas. No one can compare this movie to Lethol Weapon either. Fact
The second best Christmas movie ever made. It's totally a Christmas movie, it's all about family and togetherness and making it home for Christmas. There are Christmas songs in the soundtrack and Christmas decorations everywhere. It is absolutely a Christmas movie.

You said this isn't a Christmas movie. How can you say its not? It isn't even disputable. It takes place on Christmas eve. During a Christmas party. And has Christmas music. Anyone who says it isn't is purposely wearing blinders so they don't have to admit they are dead wrong. This is not an opinion. It's backed up with rock solid undeniable facts
Best comment goes to Lia: "Don't talk with him, just kill him!". Why does nearly every action movie character - good or bad - get so frickin' chatty when they think they have the upper hand (ref: nearly every Bond movie)? Just shoot before you lose the advantage. The first Austin Powers addressed this issue best.
Why does nobody understand? John can't just go around killing the 'bad guys' just because it's convenient; unless they are committing a violent act against someone, or at least directly threatening someone - he can't kill them (or even just shoot them!) [One of my pet peeves about too many 'shoot-em-up' action movies ... cops shooting somebody just because it seems like it might not be a bad idea! This contributes to people thinking that not only is it OK ... but that this is the way cops work!😳🙄] Time to watch the other movies in the series! The quality varies from movie to movie; the second-best one is where the hackers are trying to break into the secret government computer complex. *Tons* of action, lots of explosions, some _seriously_ *great* comedy-lines, plenty of suspense, and it even has a really cool romance (sort of) sub-plot between John's daughter (who also has some very cool comedy-lines!) and a hacker-guy who's helping him with the technical stuff. If you like to jeer/anti-cheer the really nasty 'bad-guys' ... that one is for you! *Enjoy!*
wonderful reaction, and I'm glad you had a chance to watch this amazing movie! it's a true classic, and to those of us of my generation who saw this come out in the theaters when we were young, it will always be a Christmas movie! much like the original Lethal Weapon movie, which is another one you should watch if you haven't already.
If this whets your appetite for more action films involving heists and hostages and quotable dialogue, there are two excellent films from 1974 worth reacting to - JUGGERNAUT with Richard Harris (who was Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films) and the original THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE with Robert Shaw (who was Captain Quint in JAWS).
For an off theme Thanksgiving (American Holiday) movie there is always Alices Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. The motion picture about the 18 minute Song from 1967. I just looked and it is a free TH-cam movie. I would suggest that you listen to the song before you watch the movie
It’s an age old debate. Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? This question has even been presented to Batak Obama, so you know people have put serious thought into this.

I love it at the beginning in the airport where he simply says, "California." Says it all. We're so different on the east-coast: hard-boiled.
The ways this is a Christmas movie:

Anyone who says it isn't is purposely wearing blinders so they don't have to admit they are dead wrong. This is not an opinion. It's backed up with rock solid undeniable facts
Best comment goes to Lia: "Don't talk with him, just kill him!". Why does nearly every action movie character - good or bad - get so frickin' chatty when they think they have the upper hand (ref: nearly every Bond movie)? Just shoot before you lose the advantage. The first Austin Powers addressed this issue best.
On my must watch list every Christmas. Best Christmas movie ever. Now you have to watch Die Hard 2, also a Christmas movie...
If you are Alan Rickman fans, you MUST watch "Galaxy Quest." You will love it.
My Generation Alan Rickman was The Sheriff of Nottingham, in Robin Hood Prince of thieves. Should definitely check that out Ladies.
Yes, he was brilliant in that.
This contributes to people thinking that not only is it OK ... but that this is the way cops work!😳🙄]
Time to watch the other movies in the series!
*Enjoy!*
Part 2 is a Christmas movie too, takes place at an airport.
The singalong at the end made me wonder if there's not a Christmas song from you guys in the future...
Make sure You watch Die Hard wih a Vengence. Another great movie with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson
wonderful reaction, and I'm glad you had a chance to watch this amazing movie! it's a true classic, and to those of us of my generation who saw this come out in the theaters when we were young, it will always be a Christmas movie! much like the original Lethal Weapon movie, which is another one you should watch if you haven't already.
Leah is all that and even more! My favorite!
the Blonde is Alexander Goodenov famous Russian ballet dancer and died of acute alcoholism
My favorite Christmas movie. Yippie Ki-Yay girls 🤠
Now, when you watch Brooklyn 99,you'll get all the main characters Die Hard references :)
Well done girls another classic please watch die hard 2 and die hard with a vengeance and die hard 4.0
Die hard is absolutely a Christmas Movie 🎄🎅
Not a joke it is one of the best Christmas movies
These two movies that you can watch and make movie reaction :
1.The Raid : Redemption
2.The Raid 2
I am really glad you guys got to see this it is awesome
🎄🎅This IS a Christmas movie.
For an off theme Thanksgiving (American Holiday) movie there is always Alices Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. The motion picture about the 18 minute Song from 1967. I just looked and it is a free TH-cam movie. I would suggest that you listen to the song before you watch the movie
The best Christmas movie ever made🎄
Lia you always have the best reactions.
Let me add my voice.. this IS a Christmas movie.
NO, seriously... This is the best Christmas movie, year on year... I joke you not...
It’s an age old debate. Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? This question has even been presented to Batak Obama, so you know people have put serious thought into this.
Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
