Thanks for watching this weeks videos zombeeezles! I just wanna stress once more that something like this can be done with a camera phone, natural light, and facetune. You don’t NEED the professional gear but I’m using it because I have it. The camera quality will be lower but you can still sharpen images in mobile apps, play with the highlights and shadows, colors etc and make a picture look amazing!

Kimberley Massey 3 years ago, at 42 years old, I took a class with the #1 nail tech in our field after just going to school for it and changing careers. So many times she showed the nail she had just made and said how shit it was and after an entire day of instruction I finally blurted out “Can you show me what is shit because it looks freaking perfect to me!” and everyone agreed with me. I think maybe she has too high of a bar for herself and needs to talk about what she hates about those pictures. Or do them without makeup. I don’t know. Either way, I haven’t missed a video of hers in ages and this is the first one that ever made me feel so ugly I don’t want to even look in the mirror again let alone try.
@@ChristinaVVM I'm so sorry you feel that way! ): I think the lesson I took away from Mykie (looking drop dead glamorous and still not liking a bunch of her photos) is that we're all human and we all are the harshest judges of our own appearance. I agree it would be helpful for her to talk about what she doesn't like about the poses in the photos!
Something that might help when you do feel like trying is making the most purposeful, goofy face you can and take a selfie of it. Do it a bunch of times, even! Try your best to look like Cookie Monster or Animal from the Muppets. I usually do a "you accidentally opened your front camera" angle and pull a silly face - it helps to remind me that what I'm doing is objectively ridiculous and should be for fun above all else. Looking back at selfies I've taken after doing that, I don't look stiff or awkward - I look happy, and happiness is the absolute key to looking attractive. If someone is radiating happiness or joy, there's a really genuine beauty to that. I wish you the best!

Makes me mad, not because shes gorgeous, I just think there must be something shes seeing that I'm missing. Maybe its just her not liking her face *for that shoot specifically*, but sometimes I wonder if its just a level of artistic and fine tuning I havent reached yet, and I wanna be there.
@@frostfang1 I think it just wasn't looking the way she imagined in her head. When starting out on a visual project I often start with an idea of a general feel or mood or silhouette that I want to achieve, and it might look awesome but it's not what I was going for. It definitely seems like that.
When you're working on something sometimes things go in a different direction. The art of it is playing around and seeing what you like and how to get certain effects. When you do things more, you start to get a bit faster at achieving a certain look and feel cuz you know generally where to start playing with it. 👍
It’s shows that no matter how pretty others say you are we as humans don’t see ourself that way 99.9% of the time. Because we live seeing ourselves all the time and thus notice the tiny imperfections & changes that others typically never notice.
Also in this case she had an artistic image in her mind that she was trying to recreate IRL. Like a painter or sculpture trying to bring the image in their mind to life. So while we may think it’s perfect an one point they may spend hours longer trying to fine tune it.
@@amiemariecreative163 I see. It's hard to tell when it's a medium you arent familiar with. I know when an artist does a line and the line is gorgeous, but they are dissatisfied with it, that it's not the line itself, it's just not matching and contributing to the vibe in their head. But it's like this process I understand because the content itself isnt finished from the blank canvas. But with a model being the already finished content, it's harder to understand. On paper, the pose usually comes first. And you thumbnail it to highlight the outfit if you have a specific outfit in mind. Idk...hard to explain, because they are similar, but I still dont *see* the difference in the vibe in those finer details or can understand the projection in her mind compared to "what's on paper", where I can more so see it when its drawing.
I think she's overly critical of herself and her appearance (aren't we all) but in her case it makes me sad, because she's an absolute babe and looks stunning in every pose

when she said "the most awkward-feeling poses usually look the most natural" I FELT THAT. that was literally always my least favorite thing about modelling. that "effortless" look actually involved holding my breath, tucking my tongue to the roof of my mouth, turning just to the side, and pulling a muscle trying to maintain the pose
Omg yes and the multiple angles your body needs to hold or the constant "no floating hands" reminder... Connect to the body Bri, come on lol the tongue tuck is new for me and I immediately tried it and I'm now resisting looking all my past shoots and bearing myself up lol

I hear you there. I didn't realize my neck & back problems were related to modeling until I stopped. I work out even more now & even cut my own firewood, but the pain hasn't come back. That's just me though.

But I managed to take photos that according to others (and I too agree for some of them) make me look fierce, confident and sexy. I also took photos of all my friends, who were all shapes and sizes, same dslr and only natural light and they look cool af, all of them. I respect all opinions, but my experience shows me that it can be done, it just needs work.
For clothes, one of the friends made her own. You can say it is talent, but the hours,actual blood and tears, and the effort she put into the outfit is not just talent. It is work.
the first hour is really just the warmup :) once you're warmed up all the best ideas, poses, and lighting/prop arrangements spring into existence

omg mykie, i always tell everyone how amazing your insta pictures are and i am literally so thankful for this tutorial. I am such a noob with taking pictures because I never know how to take good selfies of myself. I kinda thought people like you ask other people to take pictures of them and now you show this tutorial with your camera. I just downloaded the app since I also have a sony camera as a webcam and will be trying out to do some photoshoots myself. Thank you so so much

The main thing I like that she shows off here is how long it takes to get this right. I feel a lot of people see amazing models and such everywhere they go, then think it just sort of happened in a picture or two.. no, it usually comes from *hours* of photoshoots then a few more hours of editing (or longer than that sometimes). I wish in the end she would have mentioned just how long everything took to get those amazing pictures.

Absolutely love this! I have been going through a self love journey recently while simultaneously going through eating disorder counseling. I’ve never loved my body and have always felt ugly. My husband had an idea to go to a fancy hotel and take boudoir photos. He did some research on lighting and posing and we did it all on his iPhone. The pics were AMAZING and I’ve never felt so gorgeous in my life! Highly recommend! You don’t need all the equipment to get great photos!

I like how Mykie mentioned that she's moreso trying to create something artistic. As opposed to just photoshopping for beauty, she's making a whole theme. You can tell that her pictures are photoshopped, but it's impressive and theatrical.

I like that she knows her photos are pretty sexy but also acknowledges that it’s a lengthy process to get there. Almost like she knows people assume that just because she has a nice figure it only takes 5 seconds. Also, I respect that she shows unedited versions of her photos on Instagram. She has a bangin bod, but even she isn’t “perfect” and wants to promote a healthy awareness that Instagram photos are art, not reality.

She's in no way denying she's beautiful, it's just not the artistic vibe she was going for. You ever watch someone draw? It's the same process essentially. There's a lot of drawing a line, erasing, drawing the same line, etc until it matches that vibe you have in your mind's eye. Have you ever went to put on say a shirt and just didn't feel like wearing that one today? That's the same thing. That shirt isn't necessarily ugly to you it just doesn't match what you were going for.
this video has inspired me so much so, I've watched it 3 times and ordered everything for my first full photoshoot in over a year. My love for photography is huge but I never thought I pictured well and I don't have many people that want to shoot with me. Still, I am going to do my best and all of my inspiration came from this video so thank you!

This is actually really nice. I’m regretting not taking real senior photos when I was in highschool. I’m overweight, even more so now, so I kept telling myself I’d do it after I lost some weight. It never happened, instead I maintained it. I’ll be 26 soon, and I feel like I should be taking pictures no matter how I feel about myself. In the future I’ll appreciate that I took them. Even if I don’t look great, I will be able to look at them in context, like I was in grad school, or med school.

I get that. I was never the kind of person who likes taking pictures, mostly because I never like how I look in them and I feel embarrassed while doing it. But I have a friend who really likes doing it, and whenever I'm with her she makes me take pictures, and the difference is incredible. All the pictures of myself I like are with her. So if you want pictures for the memories, totally go for it. And if you don't like them, I would suggest you keep trying. Everything is practice, including looking good on pictures (knowing your best angle and pose, for example)
Yes, do it! Perspective is a funny thing... I didn't feel very pretty in high school and I look back at pictures and wonder why I ever felt anything less than gorgeous. You'd be surprised. Always take pictures. You'll look back later and wonder why you didn't appreciate yourself as you are now ❤️
This is sooo true. I literally don't have memories because I never wanted to take pictures of me. I missed a lot.
Unfiltered Kayla exactly. I’m kicking myself. My parents asked me to take pictures a few times, but they didn’t force me. I don’t take selfies either. Unless I’ve just done my makeup. My profile pic now is almost a year old at this point. It’s the only one I could find.

you have pretty impressive skills for "limited". 20 years ago I did all this with 35mm camera so I don't have my youth or beautiful figure anymore but would have been fun to have the modern equipment back then, you truly are an artist very fun to see the transformation

I really love how mykie explains this process and all that kinda stuff. It's an art form, and while mykie is really beautiful, it's important for, specifically her younger followers, to know that it isnt expected of them to look like instagram models. This kinda photography as an art form, and body positivity can coexist and not a lot of people show that so thanks for being such a cool role model for young people interested in this kind of thing.

I've really been wanting to get into more photography, but I never knew these self portrait shoots were a whole sub-genre! They seem so fun to do and I really like how you try to make them look like "photo paintings." Definitely will try doing these soon!
