Thanks yet again for these informative videos as it's easier for me to see and understand than the manual, there is some reluctance for USA workshops to take on Land Rover jobs so it appears the mission ahead will be up to me alone. Thanks for the guidance and illumination.

pkworld there is quite an area for the seal to run on the flange seal land. As I said in the video knock it in flush so it goes in even then knock it lower with a large socket. It needs to go deeper so the flange does not bind on the outer top lip of the seal.

Wow ... there's a LOT of info to absorb in that one! Excellent work chap... I will suggest a gentle wire brush on an old drill (not the twisted wire type on an angle grinder) is a good way to speed up the clean up of gasket material. Not good practise for a prized brand new lithium makita or the like but a fine job for it's predecessor.

Matt Allen Yeah i got ya. I got an old 240V drill for wire brushing which reminds me its about time to upgrade to a bench grinder with wire brush.. lot to do this year.

Just a fine smear of silver Rtv,on those gasket surfaces would be a reassuring complement to the gasket

I'm watching again as I finally pulled my d1 front housing to put the CDL in my 03 d2. So the diff preload is set by the shimmed bearing race. I will have to check preload of the diff before final assembly. you show that in one of your videos don't you?

Iv'e been watching these videos with interest as I recently overhauled an LT230 using Ashcroft Transmissions bearing & seal rebuild kit. I'm putting a 1.44 box in my Disco to allow for the larger tyres. So I'll have a 1.22 box going spare soon.
I couldn't help but notice that when you fitted the output shaft seal, it was flush with the casing whereas the overhaul manual (page 37) says it should be "just contacting the circlip" (Which I think is a bit too far in, but it's done now so...) What are your thoughts?
