    I used a pair of scissors to ream the cut cap so the interior diameter would be greater and allow the presta valve to access the threads on the cap. This video saved the day!

    Seems like a good trick, I think it depends on the caps involved. The caps on my 700x35-45c Meet-locks brand tubes don't really fit on the valve or the pump after they've been cut as described

    I have a pump that has one hole but says it takes all valves. Just got a new road bike which comes with presta, I hope it works; however, if you do this, you can use a gas station or a car pump if you need to. I carry a cheap emergency pump always on my bike, but I don't think it can do 100lbs., so it would just be to get enough air on the tires to get to a gas station. Thanks.

    • @over1498
      @over1498 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Eliseo Borrero Here's how it SHOULD work: The head of your pump has 2 internal parts, a plastic piece that depresses the valve stem, and a rubber "gasket" that seals around the valve. Unscrew the end piece so you can get at the internal parts. Take them both out, REVERSE them, and put them back in. Then screw the end piece on and it should work for Prests.Most pumps are "compatible" with both types, but it took me a good amount of research to actually figure out how to convert it.

    • @Gearist
      @Gearist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Surprising that it wasn’t standard and I actually wonder if your pump doesn’t have a flippable head? When you take the front piece off, is there a sort of internal core piece behind that come off and flips around?

    So what was wrong with the old style valves that they needed to complicate this and render my 25 year old pump useless? Thanks for this because I just ordered a tire and it came with this prestamadigitation valve ( I had no idea there were more than one type) and my pump wouldn't fit it. Hopefully this will work! I guess now I will have to get a fancy Tour De France spandex bike suit to match my fancy valve :/

    • @Gearist
      @Gearist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Presets valves have been around since the 1920’s and they’re meant (partially) to allow for more narrow wheels without compromising the structure of the whee by allowing for a smaller hole. Getting a pump with a smart head (or a dual head) is a good and simple fix and they’re a lot more efficient these days than 25 years ago! ;)

    Bought a new tube and got it home. Took back tire off and all, then found out it had some fancy valve. Something wrong with the trustworthy Schrader valve these days? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Needless to say I didn't have the fancy pump either. Didn't want to drive back into town again. Thanks for this info it worked like a charm. Presta valves are worthless.
