My husband was on Finasteride for more than 5 years. His Dr said his PSA was good. He kept telling the Dr about how many times he was getting up at night. Finally in spring of 2023 he was sent to a urologist. She said your PSA is high I want you to have an MRI. It showed prostate cancer. We met with her after a biopsy showed 12 of 15 biopsies with cancer. She said his Dr should have been doubling the PSA count as Finasteride reduces the PSA and makes it look misleading. She was mad that all Drs don't know this. He had prostectomy in Sept. at which time they found the cancer had spread. He is now having radiation every weekday for 7 1/2 weeks. We are hoping that will take care of it. He should have been starting treatment at least 3 years ago. Should we sue the Dr that missed it?
With Finasteride or without Finasteride, no matter what PSA number is, if it stays the same year after year, there is no need to suspect cancer. He was sent to urologist because his PSA number jumped. So the doctor didn't do anything wrong.
Interesting....does having some moderate BPH symptoms argue FOR taking Proscar as a cancer preventative? And how about low dose Metformin? A recent article in Life Extension (Nov13) advises men to take both.
Guys im 32 and have enlarged prostate (31grams) my urologist gave me finasteride 5mg for 3 months im hesitant to take it because i read some of its harmful side effects pls can anyone help me decide if i will take it or not?
I was 55 when a female phys. assit. Rx'd Finasteride for me. I took it because I'm a good little patient. After a month or so nothing came out when I ejaculated. As time went on it took a lot of time and effort to achieve an erection. After 2 years she was ordered a urodynamics test (that's a trip) hoping to line me up for prostate surgery. The specialist who interpreted that test did not recommend surgery and Finasteride was discontinued. Eventually, the sexual function that I enjoyed before Finasteride returned. Happy day. Finasteride = chemical castration.
@@1DennisK one common side effect of taking finasteride is decrease libido since it prevents the conversion of your testosterone to dihydrotestosterone
@@gizac1976 I discontinued it immediately. Everybody's different. I always hate to hear people say 'check with your doctor...' but in this case that is precisely my recommendation. Better yet, check with 2 or 3 doctors. Recently a different physician assistant wanted to start me on Finasteride again. I'm considering it because prostates usually don't shrink on their own, and surgical procedures sound worse. If a smaller prostate means healthier bladder and kidneys, then maybe I'll have to bid farewell to sexual function. Sad, but damn, I'm 63!!! I've had a good run. Good luck with yours.

I'm so scared I've been taking this drug now and now I'm on the schedule for a psa test because all of a sudden I have blood in my semen and that I read can be associated with prostate cancer every other test said negative smh I'm so scared I don't wanna stop taking finasteride, even tho I don't really see an increase in my hair at all I don't wanna stop whatever hair that may try to come back but wow I'm only 32 and I don't want prostate cancer just cus I wanted some hair on my head smh
Blood in semen sound serious but i hope wasnt anything serios as such because that's to young to get prostste cancer butni guess this drug speeds the disease hope you're doing well

Dennis Keefe when you left finasteride, it was gradually or you just stopped taking it?
