Would just like to say that thanks to your videos (plus some others) that I've taken the plunge and bought this game. Really looking forward to playing it thanks to this. Very well made and inspiring
Got a good chuckle about Marines and old equipment. I was an avionics technician for A-6E Intruders in the early 90’s. Most of the aircraft I worked on were older than I was! Semper Fi bro.
This was very appreciated. It helped me to understand what's so interesting about this game and what the abstraction is actually referring to. I've seen a bunch of videos in getting ready to play this, and this made me the most excited to try it out. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the time you took for this. I have the game and after reading the rules decided it would be too much bookkeeping to interest me. After seeing this I’ve decided I will likely enjoy the game. Seems to have “teeth.”
Excellent. Just superb. Picked up this game recently and have been stymied "getting it". This went a long way to help me get started. Thank you. P.S. If you're of a mind to do more on FoF as you too learn more, please do!
I will be doing more FoF believe me. I absolutely love the game and the depth of it. I do have requests for other games but will be getting this back down to the table very soon.
Great video! I’m learning myself and it’s always great to see other play the game. I think the us squad have a crossfire marker since there are two incoming PDF’s ? (Around 38:22)
A couple points: when drawing commands, I think you can draw all the commands for each activated unit before spending any of those commands. But once you start spending commands, you have to finish one unit before going to the next. That way you know how many commands you have before implementing your movements. The other point is that while you mentioned having to draw 4 cards to determine if there is contact, it didn't look like you actually drew the 4 cards (~23:20).
I know thats why I added the note so people would understand that I should have drawn 4 not 3. I'll go back and check on the commands and the proper order.
I went back and checked on the commands just to make sure and you do have to use the commands before drawing for another HQ unit. Check the last couple of sentences under 4.1 for the specifics. I hope this helps.
Few things: The superscript is missing in the OOB, even though the footnote is still there, but if you look at the errata, you'll see that you get either the mortar section or the three mortar squads, not both. There is not LoS between the bottom left and top left card, because the dark border on a hill supercedes the light borders on any other cards on the hill. You do not draw cards for XO and 1Sgt during the initiative impulse, they simply receive one command.
Also, don't forget to change the contact level as you go. As you have more contact you have less draws on the Potential contacts (reducing the odds of running into more enemies).
Hi! This playthrough is very welcomed, and I understand how is difficult to play, think, and explain at the same time, but now, after 30 minutes, I suspend the vision because I noticed two errors. The first: when you place the LMG nest, the chart says "unspotted", so for the player isn't possible to place the VOF. The second: when you draw for 2nd PC, you made the right thing, because at this point the Current Activity is "Contact" (so, please delete the correction!), and for a PC C the table says "3 cards", not 4. Now I return to see the playthrough! ...Returning after some minutes because I noticed you forgot to add a Crossfire marker in R1C2 (row 1, column 2) when you placed the German VOFs. Anyway, a good job, that helps to understand this wonderful, but difficult and no mercy game!
Thanks for the video. I am slowly trying to learn this game. I see you selected the 1/.50 cal HMG (H>) and 1/1 HMG + 2/1 HMG (A>). The briefing booklet specifies 1/1 LMG + 2/1 LMG (A), so I think you got the wrong weapons teams? The briefing booklet lists the M2 .50 cal 1/HMG Team, but there is errata for this (a lot of discussion on BGG forums), and it (Errata and Clarifications 13 Sept 2017) says to use the 1/1 HMG Team (A>).
batmansmk Hard to say between those 2 choices as they are vastly different. LNL is the easier of the 2, but if you want the feel of a campaign where your choices affect later games then FoF is the way to go. LNL will give you more in terms of vehicles. I would say that FoF is more realistic than LNL as well. Honestly I love them both for different reasons. If money is a issue start with FoF as you can get it cheaper on NWS Wargaming. If money isn't a issue then I would get LNL with the solo module.
I still learning too, but I think you did mistake at 28:05 min. Heavy weapons (with tripods) can`t shoot after move, so no automatic fire for you, but small arms. I think :)...
Great job with the video. I keep wanting to get interested in this game, as I think the game is interesting as heck. But once the game gets into the enemy reveal/action phase I lose all interest. They could of streamlined the process with some additional enemy cards, but instead resort to a 20 step process. Do you think Up Front would be a much better alternative?

+rockhopper01 We do more with less. Semper Fi.

This is a really clear explanation; I appreciate the reference back to the rules as well.

Stellar video. Thanks for taking the time to create it. I ordered the game last week, and this is so very useful. Cheers, and subscribed!
these videos are so helpful so we can play or make our mind as if we want to buy it
thanks a lot
Wow, cool, finally another Fields of Fire video series! Thanks!
Hopefully GMT acknowledges what you are doing.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if they did. 😉

Thanks so much for this and your other videos on FoF. They drove me to buy the game!
Thanks a lot for this videos i just got into solo war games and this help a great deal.
Chris James Happy to do it.
It's nice to see another Fields of Fire video. This is on my hotlist once time permits. Subbed with fingers crossed for more. :-)

I have FoF vol.2, and GMT have told me that FoF Vol.1 will be going back up on P500 soon. Can't wait.

Is that the sound of a lightsaber being turned on at 29:32?
Thanks for doing this, as im struggling with it, if you do anymore further try the Vietnam era.
You are welcome. I will look into doing one from Vietnam
Cammo sleeves link?
Between LNLT tactical Heroes of Normandy or FoF for Normandy WW2 solo, what would be your recommendation? I like good narrative and tactical choices.

You are awesome! I have conflict of heroes as well, which I love. So maybe FoF is where there is the least overlap.
Hey Gimpy, Any more vids on Fields of Fire 2 in the works? :-D You've got a good explanation style.
I still learning too, but I think you did mistake at 28:05 min. Heavy weapons (with tripods) can`t shoot after move, so no automatic fire for you, but small arms. I think :)...
I believe you are correct. Something was telling me not to move that MG team ;)
Gimpy, I recently acquired a copy of FOF 1st edition, does this video apply to both editions or just 2nd edition?
Kevin McCammon Not sure on 1st edition. I know they did some errata to 2nd but not sure all of what they changed.
