Thanks for this! I'm on BGG, but don't explore there enough. I LOVE solo games and solo variants and didn't know this existed. I just bought Quacks about a week ago and I'm hooked. The fact that I can play it solo now is fantastic. Even though I've only played it about 3 times, I was over here calling you out for using your potion after exploding. Already printed and laminated my new solo deck - so it's off to play!
Just tried it this morning and it reinvigorated my love for Quacks! It's great for testing many combinations of ingredients books without getting frustrated about exploding for the fifth time in a row because everyone is so far ahead! :'(

Funny thing is that, although you’ve technically played correct (only considered playing wrong out loud 😉), I have a feeling that thinking that you could use the flask at any time, made you risk more and win. Thanks for showing this variant! Now I have a reason to dust off the game. 😀
Oh man when you pulled that four blue I was also cheering for you! I really have never seen such a game where I am as invested in the other players as much as I am myself. Winning is just the cherry on top. Thanks for showing off this solo play as I really had no idea it was out there but knowing the community I should have guessed. Great content!!! Cheers
This was fantastic! You're genuine reaction to those 4s landing on ruby spaces was so awesome. I find myself reacting similarly in solo games when lick falls on my side

I asked this same question about Obsession. But I'm still building my collection so please forgive me. But, a couple years later, do you still have this one? Play it? Like it? I'm mostly a solo, or 2 players player.
There is a great variant for Twlight Struggle on BGG. You can play with USA or URSS and use all card with few modifications. At the begining it looks complicated, but the game flows very nice after 2 or 3 games against the automa. A really great job for this variant. Excelente video Mike ...saludos desde Bolivia.!!!
You cannot use your flask after you’ve exploded. And why would you ever draw (twice!) when you are are close to exploding and guaranteed a ruby if you just stop?

I was going to say that you forgot to start the game with a ruby but turns out all English versions are actually missing that rule because of a mistranslation. Apparently north star games decided it's not a big enough deal to fix it. Anyways, I definitely recommend the "start with one ruby" rule (variant?) as it makes the greens much more interesting.

My favorite fan made variant is the Optimus automa for Trajan. It was design after thorough analysis of hundreds of multiplayer games if I'm not mistaken. One of the smoothest solo euro experience. There's also an online implementation on myautoma.github.io last time I look. Highly recommended.

You nailed it exactly. The wacky swinginess of this game feels a lot less capricious when it’s just you and the AI ;)

Still play it and enjoy it, mainly because my family likes it too.
But I definitely don’t play it solo. Two-player is fine though!

Love this game.Great solo rules.
I found some that were even simpler, and don't need the deck of 9 cards, but I felt like they took away some of the core tensions of the game.

I remember trying this variant. I disliked it compared to the alternative on the site. The main reason? The bot can never explode in this version.
