I grew up on West Monroe Street. There used to be a residential neighborhood over there of black people. The city bought all the property and forced the black residents out of the Area. They were supposed to redevelop the area but as you can that plan failed miserably. The city is behind because First Baptist Church owns much of the land downtown and you need their permission to build anything down there. That damn church has kept Jacksonville in the dark ages. The place is just cursed if you ask me. Nothing but negative energy negative people and failed visions for development. Downtown Jacksonville was finished when they drove out the black residents of a neighborhood called UPTOWN where I lived they KILLED the entire area. Nobody goes down there anymore because the environment is no longer suitable for a community. What you are seeing is the aftermath of decades of bad leadership racism, classism and economic redlining. Uptown used to be a prosperous black area but they turned it into a slum and ran the people out. Now they are reaping what they have sown because the place is now a horror show where nothing really prospers except a few things. All those cops down there and the place is still ABSOLUTE HELL. That alone speaks volumes about the type of place Jacksonville is.

Bro that literally happens everywhere it's called gentrification. In my area of cali they forcing all the blacks out and now in my area all the blacks have to move further outward. Trust me this happens all over America not just Jacksonville or Florida alone. America has a history of doing this and still is and every city and state

Actually, the downtown does not look that bad. It is empty, but it looks clean. It seems that any building going into disrepair comes down. That is true about the homeless too. Once you are in disrepair, and you, or no one else will fix you. Society wants you gone. Rome, Constantinople, and London all had their slums and misfits at their peaks. Just because it has always been that way, does not mean it is right. Totalitarian societies are good at removing the homeless from sight, but we are still a free society.

You perfectly displayed the truth to the rest of the country. This city is pathetic. It’s where development projects go to die. I really hope you didn’t have to spend too much time there.

Jacksonville is an armpit, we lived there for 2 years. Low pay and high costs. The healthcare was terrible as well . Texas has better paying jobs. Glad I left . If I want a vacation I can go to South Padre island and have a much better time.

Dude you missed some of the worst. as you past the jail, you were 2 blocks off from people with extreme mental illness, living under stairs of abandoned homes. The city has done nothing to help. They would rather arrest the problem, away. I believe some changes are taking shape

9:16 Husbands just don't listen sometimes Katie (lol). What can you do? 19:46 The accommodation you're talking about sounds like a hostel. Youth hostels were very popular in Germany particularly in the 60's. Don't know if they still have them. The YMCA was also into simple-type accommodation as well. These places all had rules which you had to follow to stay there...........
