I left a church recently for not doing much of anything according to the Word of God ... And found a wonderful church where both pastors graduated from Masters Seminary ... You bet they follow every "jot and tittle" of God's Word!

Love the little puppy that comes and goes. Checking on his dad. 😊
Ive been to a church where the FEMALE PASTOR and her prophet husband refused any type of critique and would force people out and accuse discenters of being children of the devil. I was a daughter of the devil.
Ive been in a church once in 21 years... they can destroy you. I stepped back from everything because of evil practices and ostracism. Its soul destroying.
But im back thanks to you Justin, Voddie, John, Paul etc . Bless you all ❤❤❤❤❤

Sadly.. but actually THANKFULLY I was at a pentecostal church that my children and I were part of. I was speaking to my friend and the pastor's wife about struggling with(very seriously) with how to proceed with my future. I said "I just want to work for JESUS!!" The pastor's wife said "well some of us have to live in the real world!" I can't explain her tone or facial expression. But as a.. I guess.. naive sincere Christian, I was shaken to the core. My immediate thought was "JESUS IS my/the real world!?" I didn't say anything. I was very disillusioned and never went back. Finding Justin peters, John MacArthur, Paul washer, etc.. have brought me back to knowing that GOD is faithful. I am in HIS hands. And though the road is painful and lonely. It is assuring❤

My church didn’t discipline when an issue arose.
When I brought this to the elders I was told it doesn’t apply to the church, it’s only between brothers.
They still don’t deal with any discipline issues.
We’re in the process of looking for another church

Could you find some way to enlarge for us what you are going through? In the meantime I will keep you in my prayers as much as I can remember you. There is persecution going on all over this planet. I hope the Lord comes soon even though I want to give is many people as is possible the chance to be saved before the great tribulation starts. God bless you brother and keep up the good fight. Great job. I am a pastor these past 3 years and was on a pastoral staff for 11 years before that. I have never seen step three happen at our church. Usually after step two, the person repents or leaves the church. I think the ones who leave it is because we let them know what step three is and that we will do it. Every time the person just leaves...so far. Thank you for your teachings.

So illuminating, Justin, thank you - your experience as a kid with this verse mirrored mine. Context is just critical. I've started recommending to friends and my kids: don't read a verse, read the whole chapter, and then tell me the verse you wanted to tell me.
What jumped out at me in Matt 18 is the iron clad proof that the church is not to be "seeker sensitive" - church discipline is the exact opposite of this, which is why we never see it in the evangelical church, to our detriment.

  • @alwaysovercomingbear4809

The church I grew up in, did TRY to do discipline biblically, however, this needs to be done VERY carefully. I was on the receiving end of this when I was a teenager. Due to rumors and great misunderstanding, the elders announced my "sin" to the church. I was absolutely mortified and was too immature at the time to understand. I was too embarrassed to return to church for years. (My dad REALLY regrets it).....to top it all off, the pastor and one of the elders were later found out to be guilty of sexual sin and financial sin, at the same time they were disciplining me for rumours. Again, like I said, they tried to do it biblically, and now that I am in my fourties, I understand....but extreme wisdom is definitely needed.

    • @jaeladarlingtrailers
      @jaeladarlingtrailers 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This happened to me too, about twenty years ago. I made a mistake with someone I thought was a friend. She brought a mutual friend to confront me. I was in tears and fully repentant. I knew I messed up. Then the one I had wronged said, "You know I have to tell the pastor." Well, I knew of this verse, but I didn't know enough to understand it completely.
They did tell the pastor, and I was expecting and open to discipline. But no one ever said anything to me. Other people were told, and as quickly as the following Sunday, I was being treated differently and could feel the "weirdness" in the air. I had babysat the pastor's daughter on many occasions, then one day out of the blue when we were supposed to go to the movies, he had his daughter tell me that he doesn't trust me. He didn't tell either of us why.
I ended up quitting church for a while because of the drama. I found out who my real friends are out of that mess, and years later, it dawned on me why that whole thing was such a mess. It's because this verse was used incorrectly at the beginning. They had "won their brother" (or sister, as it were) but went and told people anyway. It's traumatizing. I remember it like it happened yesterday.

    • @alwaysovercomingbear4809
      @alwaysovercomingbear4809 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jaela Darling
I’m sorry that we had to go through that. I too was the “Church babysitter” and my pastor responded the same way. I regret not trying to make amends, for the kids sake, but like you, I left the church for a while. However, now I realize that there is NO perfect church or perfect Christian, and that God has nothing to do with the “churchianity” that we experienced. God is good - humans are all sinners....
      God bless.

@@alwaysovercomingbear4809 I didn't realize there was a response to my comment until just now. Sorry about that. I appreciate you sharing your experience. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. It took me a long time to realize that the overall response was not entirely my fault, and that the incident was grossly mishandled. I spent too much time beating myself up over one mistake, when I actually repented and did what I was supposed to do. I know humans are flawed, and I don't hold a grudge. I finally learned to let go, and it has helped me in other areas of my life. :)

Praise the Lord for raising men like you who gives the truth as God intends it to be. Thank you brother.
I have been in a church that has church discipline however it was not according to scripture. We had 2 brothers who were approached in regards to a sin in which they themselves revealed, they repented , unfortunately Grace and mercy was not given to them. They have had to sign a contract annually to remain in the church. It was so disappointing to witness the continued condemnation of these brothers.

When we pointed out the context, he said that he chose to believe that when Jesus said "whatever", He meant "whatever"..... Context matters!

I am thankful that the Holy Spirit lives with in me and gives me much discernment and has led me to places to learn what the actual truth of the matter is. Some channels I hear new things and I'm like nah not so and will move on. When I saw this I stopped and listened and it makes a settled sense with-in me what you are saying and I appreciate it very much. Justin...thanks for your teaching and specifically your clarification on this passage. It is a sad situation in the Calvary Chapel "movement" where this has been employed directly with several pastors here in Texas (similar to the Mars Hill debacle), but the "good ol' boys" club of the pastoral staff statewide - and spilling over into CA for the CC board - is heartbreaking and damaging to the Body. The debris left in the wake of the spiritual abuse engaged in by several prominent pastors has had detrimental effects that persist beyond the immediate acts. Very sad...

What about a church that the leaders are not living righteousness, but want to discipline the congregation. There is abuse. Wish you would of addressed this. Love you Justin

Never seen it done properly. Once in a sideways fashion. Gave asylum which resulted in the death of a deacon who was not guilty until the asylum. Place them without so law can run its course.
Thief on the cross repented and was forgiven but still faced a penalty. One on one not as much but always hope it increases with success. Thank you pastor Peters. Glory be to God

Gathering in the Name of Jesus is not a simple matter of joining together with others in a specific location and claiming to be there because of Him. People only truly gather in His Name when the Spirit is actually responsible for them being there. This means you can't be seeking your own will or have your own reasons for being there or what you intend to accomplish by it. If you are really gathered in the New Name that God gave to Christ upon Him being resurrected (Jesus is indeed the one who received this Name and only through faith in Him can God also impart what is in it to us, though He has already chosen us for it,) then those things which are actually in that Name must be made manifest (Rev. 19:11-16.) This is consistent with what Peters is saying here on discipline because what is in the Name that God gave to Jesus Christ can only be revealed through our obedience to Him.

Unlike some others who shall remain nameless, your exegesis and knowledge of Biblical truth is so encouraging and edifying!
The solid rock of Christ and His Holy Word resonates within me and always brings me closer to God and His Son through your blessed instruction.
Do you give sermons on Sunday?

No. Justin Peters is not a pastor. Listen to John MacArthur online (gty live) or find a church in your area . tms.edu/find-a-church/

Concerning loosing, I've had people praying for my tongue to be loosed. It's been years, and I still stutter. After reevaluating everything I have seen an experienced in church, I wonder if it should be a miracle that I still believe.

Might be the first correct use of “loosing” I’ve ever come across - you don’t mean “losing”, you literally mean “loosing”! And no, it’s a load of tosh. No biblical precedent for tongues requiring loosing to speak in “tongues”.

Edwin - no, this is not right. You should find a new church. Go to www.tms.edu and look under b"Resources" and click on "Church Finder." Put your hometown in and see if there is a church listed near you. If so, go to that church.

In terms of church discipline, these words come to mind, “Discipline isn’t done to someone, it’s done for someone.” Stay blessed Pastor Peters.

Some churches use church discipline wrong. I have PTSD and depression from an assault, the pastor talking to me about how it’s a sign I wasn’t right with God, then he and one of the elders talked to me about it, then they told the entire church, and then I was pushed out. Even my therapist agrees that they don’t understand mental health issues.
