NINE high Cs, one after the other, effortlessly, in La Fille du Regiment at the Met in 1972. He took 17 curtain calls. The house went wild. We bought seats but only used the edge. RIP Maestro Supremo. Unequalled, probably never to be equalled. Certainly not in our lifetime.
what a brilliant statement we bought seats but only used the edge, how lucky to have seen him, I could have seen him , I was around but had no interest in opera, it would have taken a lot of money and work, but to have heard that voice in person. the huge gigantic regret of my life.
Of course, many other tenors can also sing this "hammer aria" - but Pavarotti masters it (as it seems, without having to make any special effort) with a vocal ease and bravura that is unmatched.
It's really incredible how his voice is able to effectively cover so many fachs. This is easily leggero Territory but he sang lyric, spinto, and even some dramatic rep too
A certi commenti mi viene da rispondere... Vi meritate i cantanti di oggi... Come Kaufmann o la Netrebko etc... che impongono colleghi cani per non sfigurare loro...
....Big P at his best! A perfectly balanced lyrical voice over all registers. As the voice darkened later in his career, he went into more dramatic characters on stage. Not always to his advantage. The little word „No“ is probably the most important word for a long and sustainable career. LP was loved by his audience for decades, inside and outside the theaters. People on the market places loved him as well as the owners of the most expensive tickets. RIP
Those are far from the best Top Cs that I have heard from Luciano, but compared to anyone else with a voice of comparable size and color they are pretty magnificent.

Last high C was tired, his voice was ending that night or something, byt it's the first time ever i could hear that from young Pavarotti. He was so, so professional in terms of maintaining of the voice and keeping it in a good condition.
How I love the seemingly "effortless" power of his voice. Fabulous. The world is a poorer place without you, Maestro, RIP.

I think people really under estimate his peerless diction, it's as if he is whispering, talking singing right in your ear. and so earnestly.

I listened very diligently but didnt hear it, I'll keep listening till I dont hear it again. ha ha
It was in no way tired. There’s zero indication of it. This is a clear indication of someone trying to sound knowledgeable for their own sake.

Wrong, he never sang it in the 80’s.
Last note a tiny bit tired.
sounds like he is having trouble with that final note...to me
On the contrary, I think he was overloading the gain of the microphone with the volume and resonance of the note
