One take only? Wow. That was well rehearsed and organised. I worked in theatre many years ago. Plays and musicals are also only one take, so the whole production must rehearse.

One of my weaver friends told me long ago to place the umbrella swift vertically, like a Ferris wheel. She said it reduces stress on both the swift and the yarn and keeps the skein from slumping off the swift.

Such a great post thank you. I have a room like that my sister said she has dreams of being chased by sheep every time she comes over. I love my yarn. Thank you so much I'm having the time of my life in this tapestry world and you are a fantastic guide.

I need a niddy noddy asap! I just made a mistake of using the umbrella swift to make my single spun into a skein 😭

I find the Umbrella swifts are very weak and can fold up when you least expect it . I use a wooden one that doesn't clasps it was made by a guy at my spinning group . I just love all your electric tools . My husbands arms make a great skein holder in a pinch :).

Thank you as always! Is there any reason not to make skeins on the back of a chair ? Thanks

Only that a niddy noddy is easier to use and makes a uniform skein. If you can make them on a chair or two pegs that are stabilized to something, that works fine.

Is it possible to go right from a cone of yarn to a ball - without creating a skein in between? Are you aware of a machine that would simplify the cone-to-ball process? Thank you!

sure, I do it all the time. Just put the cone on a stable surface and wind it into a ball right on the ball winder. You only need a skein if you need some sort of wet processing. No need to skein it first at all.

My broke ass just bought a picture frame and made a loom but maybe someday I can make enough money from weaving to justify purchasing all of this equipment.
