    SA’s singer/writer, Tony Kakko, is a character, he’s pretty funny 😆

If you can sincerely call your friend an asshole and still love them dearly, that's how far you'll go when you feel like they need you. I've been there. My friends have called me out on destructive behaviour and put my head back on straight. Only friends will fight against, with and for you like that.

Aaah, this brings me back lol! I was almost a Sonata Arctica elitist in my teenage years😂 The reason I got so stuck on them was Tonys voice, it captures and holds your attention in a way that I can't explain. While I liked this new song, it's not the typical Sonata Arctica sound (unless they changed it in the later years). I would go for Don't Say A Word, Full Moon, Black Sheep or The Cage for the typical melodic power-metal sound that was their signum😁 My favorites (aside from the previously mentioned) used to be Gravenimage, Replica and Wind Beneath My Wings. Those are not as power metal-ly though.
As for the lyrics on this - I interpret it as battling your personal demons and struggling with emotional burdens while your loyal friends support you through it. The "asshole" to me seems to either be self-deprecating or a affectionate banter between friends (like my friend who always says that I indeed look like complete shit whenever I struggled with my self esteem. It always made me laugh😆).
The "bending rules and sacrificing" to me implies the extent to which the friends are willing to go to support their friend.
Edit: Sonata Arctica also used to be known for not having the most correct english lyrics (grammatically that is). It could sometimes sound a bit funny😁

Love Tony's voice. As other's have said, he is one of the members of Northern Kings, along with Marko. A fun Christmas song which can really be played any time of the year from them is Raskasta Joulua Heinillä härkien kaukalon Akustisesti Official video. It will give you a good idea of the wonderful and differing qualities of the four men's voices. I interpreted this video as being friends "intervening" with a friend who has hit some kind of a downhill path. They are giving him encouragement and a bit of the "you jerk" talk that friends do with friends. There was a time, very early in Nightwish's history, where Tuomas was seriously considering disbanding the group. Tony and he went for a hike and Tony was able to convince Tuomas that he should continue moving forward with Nightwish. Maybe he, at that time, said something along those lines.

Tony Kakko has a great voice! I haven't been listening to Sonata Arctica that much, but last week I saw Tony live for the first time. It was the "Raskasta joulua" - christmas metal super group show in my hometown. Awesome show, but unfortunately Marko had a flu and couldn't sing 😩 But back to Tony, one of my favourite songs with his vocals is "Cold Heart Of The Klondike" from Tuomas's The Life and Times Of Scrooge -album. I strongly recommend the whole album, well you know, it's Tuomas 😁 Thanks for your work in this channel, I have been enjoying very much 😊

These Elias Viljanen guitars is really insane. I really love Elias Viljanen before he join to Sonata Arctica. Here in Finland we called him to Finnish Steve Vai. Look at his solo albums!

Ohhh this Band takes some experience with to appreciate as they are one of the truly unique bands out there. Recommend you check out full moon, who failed the most, wolf & raven or I have a right. These guys have covered Phil Collins and even done a country inspired metal song.

I had a similar reaction to Tony's voice! I first heard him sing in Tuomas Holopainen's Cold Heart of the Klondike. I think you would enjoy that song too. Tony Kakko has a beautiful, impactful voice. For more Sonata Arctica I would recommend Fullmoon or Kingdom for a Heart.

Maybe you heard Tony Kakko sing in the collab work Northern Kings with Marko, Jarkko Ahola and JP or in Tuomas's The Life and Times Of Scrooge -album. He can tell stories with his fantastic voice

I agree on Tony's voice. I saw Sonata Arctica live in October, they sound so good live, and this man is not only a great and engaging frontman, he feels everything he sings. I am very excited for this upcoming album, already preordered it. I don't think he was talking about religion here, it read more like reaching out to a loved one who is being distant or hurtful, like "we are your friends and we have sometimes done not so great things to help you". Kind of an intervention maybe? You will have to ask the band 😅 My favourite songs from them are Paid in full, Replica, Everything fades to grey.

I love sonata arctica, but the first single (first in line) of the new coming record is way better imo. Check it out, please. This track just sounds TOO weird with the a-hole part. :-)

I don't always listen to Power Metal, but when I do, it's Beast in Black 😆 Their lead singer, Yannis Papadopoulos does an amazing vocal cover of "Ghost Love Score". If you ever get the chance to check it out (or even react to it) your mind will be blown! 🤯

@DanTheSqueegeeMan I missed out seeing them by a few days when my wife and I were in New York last year, opening for Nightwish too! Perhaps the same tour?? Anyway, I was a bit disappointed lol it would've been the cherry on top of our holiday that's for sure!

Have you ever had a friend that's self destructive and overall hard for anyone to be around? That's a person with a monster on the shoulder only that person can't see.
Sonata has number of songs that are ultimately about people who have hurt you and conflicted emotions left behind.

Sonata Arctica is a great band that is really hard to pin down to a genre. They have everything from pseudo-thrash/speed metal to arena rock to soft rock. Sometimes even on consecutive tracks lol. I highly recommend their songs "I Have A Right", "Flag In The Ground", and "My Selene"(my favorite song of theirs). I think "I Have A Right" will hit you just as hard as it hits me. It's a really deep and emotional song. Love your reactions. Keep it going!

Sonata Arctica aren't/wasn't thrash/speed metal in any means. They started as hard rock cover band (tricky beans), then went to fast power metal with some iconic slower ballads and ended as a prog/symphonic rock/metal band. :-)

Ok. So, Finland got this Christmas tour every year with their best metal vocalists and it's extremely successful. They reinterpret the songs, that's why there are so many. I got one that's really impressive. Let me find it.

Loved the song! The lyrics look to me like someone who had changed (for the worse), like getting involved in a cult-like group, becoming an a**hole, and his/her friends were there to help the person back to sanity. I don't know... it's one of those songs with lyrics that can be interpreted many different ways.

I just thought the a**hole bit was what friends ( especially male) sometimes say to each other. Friends will have each others back. Even when you are not at your best. That's my take on this.

  • @jkopacetick

I certainly liked the vocalists here, and music was pretty good. I'm not really sure about lyrics or message. After awhile it just seemed like passages without relations to other things. Maybe I missed it in my haste tho. Still an enjoyable song. ❤ and ✌️
