Mighty impressive. Sailing out and sailing in - when you can do that then you earn Neptunes respect - and he clearly showed it right at the end. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Some proper seamanship skills there. Lovely to watch, and great you went for it. Coming into a new harbour at night with crew under engine is challenge enough, but to do it knackered with no engine takes serious skill. Nicely done.
I couldnt afford a diesel so spent 2 years cruising engineless. I arrived at most places pretty worn out, but i didnt know any different. Fast forward 20 years and a boat with a reliable diesel and its a world of difference. One thing i do not panic about, is the engine failing. Pretty satisfying bring a boat from port to port under sail alone. Well done.
Hello, at the Lagoonies bar in St Maarten, you and your wife were sitting at a big table with fellow sailors. We are Turkish couple. You were making your preparations for the departure. We are glad that you arrived in good health. We will make the same way next season. May your wind be easy.
I'm actually back in Ireland now, sailed from the Azores to Dingle last week and currently looking for a place to overwinter. Possibly Cahirsiveen, possibly Galway, but definitely west coast.
Big brass ones mate! ⛵️ How frustrating to get that close to anchorage, have it get dark on you, then a witch of a wind being fickle. Well done! Am planning the same solo trip from New England to the Azores in 2024 with the possibility of full time liveaboard and residency. If you have any insight to that possibility while there I would love to hear it.
The Azores were my favourite place over the whole Atlantic circuit, the people are really friendly, it's inexpensive, the weather is lovely. I want to move there myself to live in the future. I visited Flores, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge and Terciera. You'd probably want to be at least near a marina in the winter so Faial or Terciera would be good for a base, good size towns there. You can't go wrong with the Azores!
Awesome! That’s great news, thank you. Have been looking into requirements. You have to buy temp visa health insurance for residency or staying longer than 90 days. It takes about 4 months applying for residency. After that you can get health insurance for under $100/mo. Am still looking to see if any boat insurance is required. You’re a lucky sea dog, wish I was there already.
@@SoloSailingSapphira yes you would need a 10 hp or 15 hp on a dinghy i think. I have a nicholson 32 from 1965, heavy boat, 7.3 tons. Am looking to buy a proper dinghy being able to do that in case of emergency. My 27 hp yanmar hass only 200 hrs on so its reliable though.
I didnt know you were gonna do Faial. My name is on the wall in the port. Did you leave a pic there? My first trip there was Sept 12th twin tower time. The girl I was with is from Horta,,she did not tell me she had a disco confetti bomb in her luggage,,,pretty harmless,,,but it caused a lot of shit. It was confiscated, Ana Carla moaned,,the bomb cost 200 quid,,,lol. We were allowed to fly ,, the captain knew her.
A whole new dimension. And in the dark! Well done. ⛵️

Thanks for watching Andy!
Brilliant sailing, congratulations, nerve racking with out an engine to rely on.
Great job ! Well done sir 👍
Thanks once again for sharing your journey. As someone new to cruising, I find your videos the most informative and inspiring.
Thanks very much Clemson!

Thanks Simon!
Wow mark that was fantastic sailing with no engine, thankfully your in safe and well. B.
Thanks Brendan! Arrived in Dingle the day before yesterday, good to be home, in some ways!

Thank you very much for the comment. Yep, this passage was a great learning experience and a good confidence builder
Well done man your still bloody doing it! ✊🏻🏴
Whew! Great job there. The rocky bit at the end is always the terrifying bit.
Well done Mark, proper Slocum style sailing. Watching you from the comfort of Clew Bay, Co. Mayo
Haha thanks Derek, I've had some hallucinations in common with the great man.
Way to make it happen, that was a tough sail into the harbor!

I remember! Thanks for the comment and fair winds for your trip next year
Another excellent video.. can't wait to see more. Whats the eventual plan? return to Ireland/Malahide?

Well don indeed
Maybe you can dock the boat pushing it with the dinghy tight up to her side
Yes, I've done that before and when in Horta we did that to get in to the marina. My dinghy is a bit small so a friend helped with their RIB

I didn't leave a pic, we were there ages then ended up running out of time so didn't get around to it. Lol re the disco bomb!
