Fragile Crystal I think a lot of people see as him ‘that guy’, shows up in some blockbusters, Spider-Man obviously, Aquaman most recently, and he’s always solid in those, but not many know or have seen To Live and Die in LA, Last Temptation, Light sleeper, Wild at Heart, Shadow of the Vampire. Hell even in small roles like John Wick and Wes Anderson movies he steals the scenes he’s in. And his choices are always so varied, he can play sympathetic or full evil or very grey. Above all, he just seems like a really good, humble dude He should have one statue by now at least imo
Man, from all the interviews of him I've seen, Willem just seems like such an awesome goddamn guy. He seems like such a "director's actor". A guy who doesn't seem to have an ounce of celebrity ego or entitlement, and views his work as just that: work. But not the type of work that makes you groan when you wake up in the morning; a craft that he's endlessly passionate for, and wants to be used in service of a beautiful artist's vision. To be a part of creating something extraordinary (like The Lighthouse) is its own reward. It's easy to see why he's had a consistent career for decades and doesn't seem likely to fade away any time soon. Godspeed, Spider-Man.
@@charliepanayiotou4305 I disagree, Sam Rockwell was the best actor in that movie and the scene with him in the police station while it was being firebombed was better than any scene with Dafoe in The Florida Project.
One of the best movie of the year. Unique and not for everyone, but if you get hooked by whats on screen its riveting. Production and sound design, cinematography and acting were flawless.
Willem is best in interviews talking about his craft. Such a passionate guy. Compare this to his late night show appearances. Some good Mayo right here
I've always respected Dafoe as an actor, but seeing him in this has seriously elevated him in terms of my favourite actors of all time. Pattinson I've been a fan of for years, they're chemistry was so potent, this film is almost perfect.
Saw the movie tonight. It was chilling beautiful and at some points funny. I need to rewatch it i understand some of the Greek mythology but theres alot i didn't get. With that said however the movie has the "IT" that makes me want to rewatch it and learn more about what was being said.
Dafoe was mesmerizing and the chemistry with Pattinson was palpable. Thought Willem should’ve gotten an Oscar nod. Certainly a better performance than Leo in OUATIH.
I do like it when an actor finds a Director they want to work with, and give themselves over to them. I know that actors are constantly in search of roles, but sometimes (and in the case of someone of Willem's status) it really does mean something. I got the feeling from this interview that he 'got' from the role (and the filming conditions) exactly what he expected (and perhaps more?). Willem is rather modest about his work is he not?
@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 uhhhh because he's never won any major awards. Mind you, for a while now I've come to understand the major awards are a popularity contest and not so much to do with actual talent
@@kickedinthecalfbyacow7549 not if they're not based solely on talent or what the colour of your skin is etc. Like I said, it's a popularity contest between the voters of each awards ceremony. Willem isn't only a well-known actor by playing Green Goblin in the Spider-Man's trillogy, starring Tobey Maguire, he's also known by playing several roles especially, villian roles. Nevertheless, his Jesus's performance in The last temptation of Chris by Scorsese is arguably one of the most underrated ones in his career as an actor.

The Lighthouse is a genius movie and Willem plays his role as a crusty old sea dog so amazing well it’s an Oscar performance. That accent is pure British Sea Dog from the 19th Century it’s flawless. Actually Roberts accent is all over the place in comparison but we’re comparing a good actor with one of the best actors of all time. Such a compelling movie that draws you in. You’re on that island with them. Bunked up in the same tiny rooms. At once drunk with them singing and dancing and resentful of the old domineering Keeper. The scenes of being pissed out of their heads are terrifyingly real. When people get that hammered anything can happen as they regress to mindless cave men. It’s right up here with Joker as a masterpiece of the last decade.
I am SO looking forward to "At Eternity's Gate". I love Willem Dafoe! His sentence on "The Lighthouse" having something of "Tarkofsky meets Hitchcock" is very observant. My favourite movies at the cinema in 2019 were "Portrait of a Lady on Fire", "System Crasher", "Joker", "The Favourite" and - of course! - "The Lighthouse".

Dude thank you for saying everything about Willem and then some that I wanted to say! 👏🙌💯only mmore eloquently. That was dope 16:56 🥹🫡
Willem has been horribly snubbed this year by the academy
He was definitely screwed over two years ago when they chose Sam Rockwell in Three Billboards over his role in The Florida Project
@Digonto Zahid True enough, though that hasn't stopped Joaquin Phoenix this year.
Chap doesnt play the game. Doesnt need to. Transcends in every role, no matter the quality of the film (which lately have been consistently amazing)

The Lighthouse feels like stripped back film making, it was very refreshing to watch. The opening 2 mins are amazing...lets you know what is ahead.
