    I think Willem Dafoe, more than any other actor I've seen interviews of, is really geniune and gives you an open door to a glimpse of what his thought process is and what he's trying to accomplish as an actor. Very few artists show the kind of openness and vulnerability that he does.

      @Elricwulf 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @Leo Peridot I've watched many actors interviews; many of them, in fact, done by James Lipton on INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO. Willem just strikes me as very candid and open with his processes. Real. Not saying other actors are faking it or keep alot more filters up. It's just a vibe I get that seems different. Maybe Pedro Pascal is good at getting actors to relax and be more open, because I've seen him interview Ewan McGregor and that was a good interview as well.

    His voice is so unique and he is able to imbue so much emotion in his speech. It's equal parts bass and whine. He can sharpen it with a hiss or mellow it with a soft murmur. Listening to him is as entertaining as looking at him. It must be his life on the theater that has granted him so fine a control over his tone. Willem, is up there with some other greats like Hopkins in his ability to use more than just his physicality to bring a character to life.

      He was really in the intellectual pressure cooker of Downtown NYC at that time... right at the moment that "deconstruction" and "postmodernism" were huge. His description of a theater that was focused on actions and objects more than language comes directly out of that huge cultural shift. This is a brilliant guy who paid attention to everything around him.

      @@SuperRobertoClemente you know, I am familiar with the Wooster Group. I follow news, here and there, about Wooster and Mabou Mimes, and such. I may have seen a production of Brecht, by Wooster? - don't quote me. It was around the time I saw THE NATIVITY, in Boston, by Bread and Puppet Theatre. (My memory these days is shot). I just don't get to NYC as much as I'd like! Best Fringe theatre in the US, imho. But, I'd forgotten that Dafoe was at the helm at Wooster, in the beginning. I'm glad to be reminded. Unlike most interviewers, Pedro actually lets Willem talk after the questions and waits until he can ask another question while on the same topic. It's really refreshing to watch. Sometimes you encounter people that closely resemble other people you know, & seldomly you meet exact dopplegangers, but rarely do people have a truly distinctive face, apart from all others. My father was both. He passed away a few years ago & at his funeral we had dozens of photos of him displayed with a couple photos of Willem Dafoe mixed in for yuks. Many of his closest friends & family didn't even noticed until they were let in on the joke.
