I watched this with a mixture of feelings of both awe and horror. The awe is self-explanatory, the horror was from seeing all those lights just burning and burning on the ground and covering so much of the land. And, I knew that I'd seen a similar vision once upon a time. Here's the late great visionary artist/ storyteller/ mythmaker Jack Kirby's prophetic depiction of such a thing from New Gods, circa 1970.
You are seeing the larger clouds at a huge distance, it's only the smaller clouds which we normally view much closer from the ground that we can see moving. Rather like if you were standing in front of a huge wave, you'd see it come at you real quick, but If you saw it from a great distance it wouldn't look like it was moving at all. Plus the sped up time lapse isn't fast enough to capture any movement before the clouds go out of shot.
@den2003 well yes because they announced it would be seen where i live in the news. i really didn't pay much attention to it but, it was actually a pretty cool experience when i saw it.
Beautiful. But how are the parts of the space shuttle, which is so close to the camera, and the earth, which is so far away from the camera, both in focus at the same time? Usually cameras can't be in focus on multiple objects of completely different distances at the same time.
Feel like Superman D: Seriously, this is awesome. Just think that, down there, millions of people are living. So beautiful and quiet... from the outside, of course...
Ya know what I found is cool?.....Play this simultaneously with "Mainline Florida," by Eric Clapton.......The ISS photography seems to go in time with the music! Well, I just love this! Thanks for posting!
@DedwenOsiris1 1) You can see plane trails from space, you just need to zoom in just a bit. 2) The clouds don't move because they barely move when you view them from space. The time lapse is just barely faster than real-time.
@BeezyKid Whats the oranggey yellow stuff? most likely millions of light emmitting objects. Lamplights, houses, cars. It looks like it was shot on the side of the earth where it was night time.
i've actually seen the space station a couple of times before. it's like a tiny little star you see moving across the sky. i thought it was actually a shooting star when i first saw it. :D
is it possible to use this clip in a not for profit educational video clip we are making? We will, of course, give the makers full credit for their work.
@Regginyaga lol, no, the video is just so brightened that in the sun the image is white. If they didn't brighten it, the night side of the earth would be mostly black.
There are stars in the background in this video for some reason. This may have been added in but cameras can't usually pick up stars because of the light from earth and our sun. But your eyes can pick them up and its probably amazing.
It's because it is the night side of the planet. Most pictures are from the dayside of the earth, which require lower exposure settings for the camera, because otherwise the earth will be overexposed. The lower exposure settings will not pick up the weak light of the stars.
The earth and its people are both awesome. Think about how much we have accomplished and how awesoem we are as animals. If we think of ourselves as animals we are actually very peaceful, and friendly
@CelineDionFan4568 You sure that was the ISS and not just a small satellite? I have seen the ISS, following published spotting data, and it's pretty bright in the sky, like Jupiter or maybe even Venus, only moving across at that fast, steady pace.
What you see there as a very bright spot just before south america is actually San Jose, Costa Rica not Panama. Panama is more to the left on the image. Very cool!
Also visible is: Salem (Or.), Eugene (Or.), Spokane, Yakima (Wa.) Boise, Sacromento, Reno, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, St. George(Ut.), Denver, Phoenix, Tucson, and San Diego.
The video starts at the about the north pole, and goes down America's west coast, to Mexico and the Yucatan and then on to the west coast of South America. Note not many lights in the Amazon
@TheSwLProduction In theory, yes. There is sound in space, but we can't hear it. We can only "see it" on paper as radiosignals. The sound as we hear it, is impossible to travel in space. Haha. Can't really explain it in english :D
that lightning when the clouds flash is fantastic
I like seeing all the lightning flashes!
so cool. The timelapse make it seem so small. Also love the spectral reflection off of the atmosphere.
Sows how friggin lucky we are to live on the one speck of dust in the Universe that can sustain life.
if we can't live anywhere else then we are gonna live here
Speak for yourself
Who got here from CGP grey?
+The best username I could come up with me,I've seen even the minecraft and the Plants vs Zombies clips.
Enjoyed this video, thumbs up. Cheers from sunny Sint Maarten in the Caribbean.
Almost 8 million views!? There just may be hope for this species yet!
EDIT: *looks at the comment section* ... never mind!
0:21 Lightning looks very interesting from space

Time Zones, Time Zones, Time Zones, Time Zones
I see my house from here!!
I love the thunderstorms you see from time to time... awesome!
The ISS isn't flying; It's falling, with style!! :)
Pause - search for ''Hans Zimmer - Coward'', skip to 5:00, return to this video and hit ''play''. Enjoy.
skip to :55 seconds and look at the 1 o'clock position at the UFO
franklin hughes I literally see nothing but stars?
This looks a bit off... look how high that camera is going. The ISS isn't circling that high up, is it?
Wow you can see all the lights in the world from space! Thats so amazing! It looks beautiful! :)
@jk2l The flashes in the clouds are lightning, the glowing yellow splotches are city lights (and you don't get thunder in space).
Beautiful. Thanks for not mucking it up with music.
Watch this on repeat while listening to Saturday Love, by Angels & Airwaves. Epic.
This is awesome to see all the lighting and lights

lol, im first time watch awesome video at 1440p ! (FULL FULLHD)
I bet your monitor is still a 1080p resolution one so you wouldn't see any difference
This is absolutely breathtaking.
What is that shooting star looking thing around 54 and 55 seconds right before the sun comes up in the lower middle of screen ?
@den2003 well yes because they announced it would be seen where i live in the news. i really didn't pay much attention to it but, it was actually a pretty cool experience when i saw it.

Wowowowow..Gr8 feels like my Heart !
A most beautiful, exciting live planet. Thank God for science and technology.
Andy ;)

Very cool. The lightning strikes are amazing looking.
This is breathtaking!!!!
I saw lightning in some of the clouds, this is amazing. Nice work.
Oh wow, those lightning strikes are amazing!! Also, you can see the different biomes quite easily from here :P (Minecraft reference)
Way cool. Are all those flashes in the clouds lightning or just time lapse camera anomalies?
Love it... I can hear the music behind!
219 people doesn't like to fly with ISS.. I'm not one of them, that video is great! Hugs from Catalonia!
@MrFeelingAwesome all lights are magnified in this video.
@32Aztec isn't it neat how a simple view that we aren't used to can put things like that into obvious perspective.
Stunning.
This world is something, put your part in to make it beautiful!
This was awesome. Beautiful.

I think it's awesome how you can see some of the thunder storms around 0:26 - 0:33.
@Regginyaga

Awesome. Watched on repeat w/ Einaudi's "Eros" in another tab...
amazing how it captured pictures of lightning jumping from cloud to cloud
Amazing video! Wow! Thanx 4sharing that with Us all! What a beautiful planet We live on! Amazing!
What are those blueish sparks? They keep sparkling all over the ocean. TELL ME PLEASE

Wow! Felt just like I was sitting at my desk, unbelievable? I wasn't even scared at all! I thought It would feel a bit more thrilling?
oh its so beautiful :')
@TheShoobre
The description says: "[...]Also visible is the earths ionosphere (thin yellow line), a satellite (55sec) and the stars of our galaxy." :)
Earth is one beautiful thing...lets try to keep it for as long as we can!
The earth and its people are both awesome. Think about how much we have accomplished and how awesoem we are as animals.
If we think of ourselves as animals we are actually very peaceful, and friendly
are those flashes of light over the cloudy areas lightnings around 0:30?
@DedwenOsiris1 I don't know off the top of my head, but wikipedia says the ISS travels at 7,706.6 m/s (27,743.8 km/h, 17,239.2 mph).
Thats a result of the cameras exposure level. If you look a bit harder you can see some of the brighter ones.
DopeScary. What a Perspective-shatterin' Perspective.
is that lightning you can see in the clounds?....i highly doubt it but it is the only reason i can think of....
The lightening was amazing!
all of those white flash on the cloud are those thunder or city light?
@PulitoZF it went from Panama up to Columbia ( the state ) and came back down to Peru. =)
@CelineDionFan4568 You sure that was the ISS and not just a small satellite? I have seen the ISS, following published spotting data, and it's pretty bright in the sky, like Jupiter or maybe even Venus, only moving across at that fast, steady pace.
Beautiful in 1080p
Never knew you could see lightning from space, that's pretty sweet.
Could have taken a few more pictures and made it smoother, but still, amazing.
the lighting in the clouds are beast
What is that green glow appearing at the left side of the screen @ aprox 00:28
Looks like a movie! and what is the bubble around the earth?
Wonderful. Can anybody notate specific video times for major cities like SF LA etc?
Hi yesterday2221, I need your help! Would you let me know from which iss mission of "gateway to astronaut" those photos come from????
Thanks a lot!
@SkullzHunter lights of the cities maybe?
@yesterday2221 Amazing vid, just one thing, in the vid description, the Country's name is Colombia, not ColUmbia.
Thanks
This is AWESOME!
Hallelujah sunlight even video burning of the eyes!

The LIGHTNING & THUNDER in the clouds is the best. Just look at it!!!
@Outlawzand1
Wow.. so it is not edited in or anything? I had no idea it looked that cool :O thanks!
The video starts at the about the north pole, and goes down America's west coast, to Mexico and the Yucatan and then on to the west coast of South America. Note not many lights in the Amazon
I want a ride on it!!! On the other hand some music would make this video even nicer!
Those thunderstorms looked epic. :]
it gets so freaking bright at the end!
Wow the sun is bright?
How surprising!
why cant i see this on the live stream, its either ultra close up shots of clouds or pitch black screen
Beautiful blue planet
Is there a "real-time" version out there some where? or slightly slower...?
That's pretty much the DEFINITION of awesome.
Comment une vidéo de simulation peut avoir tant de succès, c'est inquiétant, nous sommes dans un monde d'aveugles !!
looks like tons of volcanos going off. Lightning looks awesome, but wouldn't real lighning be too small to see from space?
what is all the orange spots and the blue flashes??
Mooi , en vraag je nu eens af wat vrijheid betekend ?
Phenomenal!
This positive feedback was posted through RaterBug.
Fantastic video!
What is the green thing around Earth? Over Earth?
@TheSwLProduction In theory, yes. There is sound in space, but we can't hear it. We can only "see it" on paper as radiosignals. The sound as we hear it, is impossible to travel in space. Haha. Can't really explain it in english :D
