Pinball wizard never released as a single in North America - but got huge airplay during the 1975 year he dominated - including contributing vocals on Sedeka’s BadBllood.
As I kid , I still remember that haunting 10CC song from the long hot summer of 75, "I'm Not in Love" and the folk like "At Seventeen" by Janis Ian. A strange tune by Roger Whittaker, "The Last Farewell" also got frozen into my memory. The 1970s had far more variety in the Billboard Hot 100 than today.
I take issue to Ian's Seventeen being in 75. Without looking it up, I believe it was several years earlier. Other than that, it seemed pretty accurate.
How I wish the 70s world return. The music was magic and every sound puts you in a place, with someone or doing something. It was a time when vocalists sang in melody and perfect harmony, when instumentalists played with their hearts, song writers composed through the soul and producers and arrangers were masters of their trade. They left us a legacy never to be repeated, only copied, immitated or versioned. The third rate music makers of today's generation have much to learn.

That may be because Billboard’s ranking period went from November to November instead of the calendar year so that they had time to publish their year-end double issue which came out the last week in December.
In my book which goes by Billboard, Island Girl was (out of the 35 #1s in 1975) one of the 11 #1s that held the position more than 1 week. It was #1 3 weeks, was in the top 10 for 7 weeks and on the chart 15 weeks making it #3 for 1975.
@@rgrndu The chart year did run from early November 1974 to early November 1975 which meant that songs from 1974 (e.g. You Ain't Seen Nothin Yet, I Can Help, Kung Fu Fighting, Cats in the Cradle, etc.) were part of the list and songs from late 1975 (e.g. Island Girl, That's The Way I Like It, Fly Robin Fly, Lyin' Eyes, etc) were left out. There were a number of hits from this list in both 1974 and 1975 that placed much lower than what they would have if their entire chart run had been within one chart year. Also I wanted to point out a correction that Billboard made after the fact. Some Kind of Wonderful by Grand Funk was listed at #6 for the year in the year-end edition. American Top 40 also used this list to do their year-end countdown. However, Billboard discovered a tabulation error after the chart was produced and put out a correction. According to their revised chart, Some Kind of Wonderful should have actually come in at #74. As a result many songs changed positions on the final chart, most of those only by one or two places. You can imagine the shock Grand Funk must have had to see their song drop 68 places for the year!

'Island Girl' by Elton appears to be missing.
That may be because Billboard’s ranking period went from November to November instead of the calendar year so that they had time to publish their year-end double issue which came out the last week in December.
@@rgrndu Fair point, my friend.
