I own a copy of the Classic Works from Women Writers -- it's such a great collection! Like you, I'm trying my best to focus on getting some of the less well-known titles that I don't already have several editions of. But there are a lot of nice editions available for certain classics, and they can be hard to resist sometimes. Your channel showcases many of them!
Great video, I recently purchased my 3rd omnibus from this collection. The price is what originally enticed me, I got my first CC book new on Amazon for under $12! I agree the covers are a little busy for my preference, but the books are solid, and the price is unbeatable!
Thank you for the overview, this was what I was looking for and helped me decide which version of a book to get, and going with Canterbury Classics edition.
Really enjoyed your tour of these books and I have to say you have a delightful style of narration, very easy to listen to. I have many Easton Press editions, Barnes and Noble and a few Folio books of classics and other great works. I only have 2 Canterbury bind-ups, "Classic Tales of Science Fiction" and the HG Wells Collection that you feature here. They are beautifully done and I see of course what you mean about the matching spines forming a more uniform "library collection" look on your shelves. Very tempted to seek out the King Arthur and Women Writers editions, after your guide here. Thanks for the tour!
Gilded pages are actually practical. They create a smooth surface that dust has trouble adhering to so it's easier to wipe off without harming the text block.
I have the Canterbury Leather Bound Classic of 'An Encyclopedia of Tolkien by David Day', it's a gorgeous book and has sparked a new addiction for me lol... Happy Reading!!
Your video made me want to buy them and the very first one I bought recently was Jane Austen's four novels. Thank You for making this video. Very helpful!!
I needed precisely this at the moment. I could find no other edition of Bulfinch’s trio of volumes in stock with distributors in my country, and so had to place an order for the Canterbury Classics leather bound edition that was, quite fortunately, in stock. I was hoping for a detailed viewpoint on these editions while my copy is still in the mail, when you uploaded this. Thank you!
I have a Canterbury Classics edition of Les Miserables. Very well made book! I'm considering buying the H.G.Wells collected edition, I haven't found anything comparable for the price (especially in reais).
Do a video on Oxford World Classics and if someone is reading this please tell he how's their 'War And Peace' by Leo Tolstoy Maude Translation. Please let me know what are you're thoughts on those
I feel your pain when you talk of the difficulties in importing books to Brazil. Taxes can be abusive and you may get your books stuck in customs for months. As to Canterbury classics, they look beautiful. I'm a Stevenson fan and I was struck by the gorgeous colour image of this edition.
I love traditional looking books.. Are there any other publication which produce editions similar to old books?? I know of Folio Society and Easton Press..
Hi, you can take off the barcode. With my copies I had no problems, they came out easily and left no sticky residues, also they did not peeled any of the cover color. The only one that seemed to be damaged was my version of Jane Austen, but I guess it was because it had been there a lot of time, because it the old version the one with only 3 novels, in that case the leather wrinkled, but still the color was left untouched.
I have few of these editions. I think they are the best value for money out there. I have a few Barnes Nobles books and I think they are slightly better but on average 10 to 15 dollars more.
Do you find these books are durable? I've seen some reviews online that mention covers separating from spines, cover paint bleeding, etc. I read my books (not just for shelf decoration) and I want to pass them down to my kids so I'm looking for books that will last. Wondering your opinion, thank you!!
These are the first copies I get from this collection, but I found them incredibly sturdy, specially considering the price. I have an older video covering many different collections. You may find it useful.
Yeah I was worried about the same thing also considering Amazon has these books at a lower retail price than the actual canturbury collection website. Not sure if ordering them off Amazon is gonna get me a cheap emulation of the official collection.
I find these editions, like the Barnes and Noble leather bound classics, are a great quality for the price. I prefer the B&N cover designs, but that is simply an opinion. I am pleased to have several of these books on my shelves. An excellent, descriptive video. Thank You.
B&N has better covers, I agree. But at the same time Canterbury editions look alike, more like a collection, same size and style, while B&N has a variety of sizes and styles, paper, etc.
@@BookCravings Yes, the Canterbury are a more uniform collection. I love it when you show us a focus of your many collections. It helps me decide which books I truly want to invest in, so that I may pass them on to the next generation.
Hi plz plz answer I got the HG wells one like 2 months ago and I was so happy with it but now it's making squeeky sounds when I open and close it and it feels loose has it happened to u also???? Could u possibly know why???? I took good care of it!
I was really confused about your accent, I was trying to figure out where you're from, sometimes sounds like you're from Britain, and sometimes like you're from India, and then, I was surprised, you live in Brazil! I'm Brazilian, are you? If not, where you're from (I'm just curious hahaha). Oh, and by the way, excellent video, I watched it and gathered strength enough to buy three of this collection, 'cause there's a promotion on Amazon. Thank you very much! And last but not least, I LOVED you accent!
I have many books from this collection and I really like them except the Jane Austen collection the font is microscopic and the book is so heavy .If you want Jane Austen pick from a different collection
There isn't really a better material than leather for a book cover. The "busy covers" on some of them are a bit annoying for sure. I.e. I agree with your distaste for a super-modern look on leather. Even Folio Society books do this now. Annoying and unappealing. Anyway. I have Wait Whitman's Leaves of Grass arriving tomorrow. Canterbury gave that title an elegant cover.
I wish they used real leather. I'd gladly pay 10 euro more for real leather. Or even some sort of really realistic and durable faux leather. Bonded leather seems to be very very fragile and needs to be treated with the utmost care. That said I honestly think Canterbury spines are the absolute best. They look so neat. Their fake spine ribs or whatever they called seem to be perfect and fitting. Barnes and nobles classic leather bounds often over do the spine
This is four years ago? Even now it look too modern with the cartoonish art. I hate they put pictures on that cover. If there were gonna be any picture it should be just a logo with gold gilding. But sure the quality is nice. It just scream 21st century. Doesn't feel very classic.

It's wonderful that you're back to posting again - I'd been missing seeing your collection. :)

Right? I can’t think of a better deal right now in terms of price x quality.

Nice to see you again here on TH-cam. 👍🏽

Let me know your thoughts when it arrives! It’s on my wishlist!
I certainly will!

Exactly!! Wait for Amazon sales and you may get a nice discount on these.
E eu pensando em comprar Grimm e Homero deles 😂

Look for vintage Franklin library books. Incredible quality.
Hey I just bought an everymans libray edition of his dark materials its amazing
An excellent acquisition!

Thank Lord they came out easily 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Can you please do a review for the Wordcloud flexibound classics. I want to buy it I'm really unsure whether it will be a good choice
Nice review, well done!

I'm loking for the same thing. Did you already find some collection like that that you recommend?
Yeah I was worried about the same thing also considering Amazon has these books at a lower retail price than the actual canturbury collection website. Not sure if ordering them off Amazon is gonna get me a cheap emulation of the official collection.
These leather-bound classics are lovely, but they're delicate and can easily start tattering if you're incautious with them.

The barcode price sticker on the back would have me walking away, and ordering a copy from Folio.
Because of the price or because of the sticker itself?
Do these editions last for a long time?
Bom video!
Parabéns aqui do Brasil.
No "Mysterious Island" in the Jules Verne collection. 😥 Others are good though like H.G. Wells. 🙂
So cool
These look so good, but I too try to avoid leatherbound books where I can. Still, I always enjoy your overviews.
Why on the leather?
Hi plz plz answer I got the HG wells one like 2 months ago and I was so happy with it but now it's making squeeky sounds when I open and close it and it feels loose has it happened to u also???? Could u possibly know why???? I took good care of it!
Lindo o seu video, cómo voçe fez para importar os livros da Folio Society?
Obrigada! Antes da pandemia eles estavam enviando normalmente para o BR.
Canterbury classics came out with new books. Aesop fables, and classic tales of Christmas.
Are they sewn or glued?
I was really confused about your accent, I was trying to figure out where you're from, sometimes sounds like you're from Britain, and sometimes like you're from India, and then, I was surprised, you live in Brazil! I'm Brazilian, are you? If not, where you're from (I'm just curious hahaha).

Thanks, João! Nowadays Canterbury Leatherbound are the best value for the money on Amazon BR.
These books are GORGEOUS yet so affordable. I love it. I’ve gotten some from BJ’s for $14. Just bought Nikola Tesla’s autobiography.
I love them too.
It’s beautiful
Is it sewn? Thank you
Yes!
BookCravings Thank you! 😊
I don’t know why but I’m finding it impossible to find dr jeckyl and mr Hyde book full book and I already have treasure island
The stickers always trigger me, I instantly remove them

Serious question: do you read these books or are they just for decorative, collection purposes?
If I don't read them and don't really want to read them, I usually sell them after 2 years. But in general I read then! lol
❤❤❤❤❤
How in the world are their cover designs “fresh and modern?”
🤷🏽♀️
Yup, they look vintage and classic to mee
Eu n acredito q vc é br😱😱
Depois passe lá no meu canal em português. Eu acabei de criar. Chama Bibliofilia.
No leather for me

Huckleberry Finn ... Easily one of the greatest novels ever.
Connecticut Yankee though ... Ugh. I really dislike that novel.
