- The Two-Tone GMC is a variation of my original Chromie. It has proven itself as one of my favorite chironomid pupa patterns. When chironomid pupa are staging prior to their emergence trek to the surface they begin to trap and gather gases beneath their pupal skin. The trapped gases begin to reflect surrounding light giving the pupa a distinct shine that grows in intensity. Foraging trout key on the bright inflated pupa.
The Blue Steel Flashabou body of the Two Tone GMC provides a subtle shine that trout key on. If the bright silver flash of my Chromie isn’t working the sublime glint of my Two-Tone GMC usually does the trick. It is a pattern I never leave home without.
I fish this pattern using floating lines with and without indicators, on sinking lines of various densities and vertically using fast sinking lines in deep water. A method we refer to as dangling.

That was great Phil, awesome
Thanks Alfred. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Cheers, Phil
Still planning to tie and film the spun deer hair boatmen Phil?
Yes Albert. The boatman is on my production list. I will be jumping in front of the camera again very soon.
Thanks, Phil
That notch on the flashabou package is genius. Why didn't I think of that years ago?
Thanks Barney, glad to help out. I try to put a few tricks and techniques in each video.
Cheers, Phil
I bought a bunch of these 2 tone beads a while back and love them. Is it just my eyes or did you use 1 size up on the white portion of the bead? If so, was there a reason for this?
Hi no, they were both 7/64" beads so it must be an optical illusion due in part to the thread thorax partially covering the rear of the black nickel bead. The way the beads connect I don't think you would be able to use dissimilar sized beads.
Thanks, Phil
Like the two toned beads. Could you use static bag instead of the flashabu?
Hi Mark, you could certainly use anti-static bags for the body. I find the Flashabou provides a similar look and is easier to work with.
Thanks, Phil
