    Hi Craig, I fitted an aftermarket exhaust & CAT on my TF, its not been a problem, I also fitted two new sensors, you just need to get the correct set up. I'm in the middle of a strip down of my front subframe, changing the upper arm bushes, track rod ends and ball joints, I fitted new wishbones already, also going to give it a good clean and paint it, so far so good all going to plan. I hope yours passes the MOT next time. once you get the niggles out of the way you'll have a ton of fun, they are great little cars.

    The exhaust looks like a Miltek system for a mk1 F with a cheap CAT to make it fit. Chances are that the ecu has be remapped to remove to 2nd o2 sensor hence why it wasn't fitted and it always throw up a 2nd o2 sensor heater circuit fault with a remapped ecu...
    Chances are the cheap cat has failed, you can no longer buy decent cats for these anymore.
    Other things to look out for are exhaust leaks around the manifold as they are prone to cracking, intake leaks from inlet manifold system, coolant temp sensor for the engine ecu just check it reads ambient temp when engine is stone cold, check map sensor is reading 1000 millibar or there abouts when engine not running.
    Hope this helps.

      ... that's great, I've been trying to find out what exhaust she had. I really like it, it sounds awesome. Thanks.

    Looking forward to you next video when your TF flys through the MOT
    The guys at MGFnTFBITZ in glossop did a lot of work on my TF last year and it passed the MOT last month with no advisories

    Keep going Craig, they do sound good but not on a run on the motorway - drove me mad when i had one on a F. Found the MG owners club sports exhaust gave the best balance on a Tf and made the car breathe better...they do like to fight their way through emissions in my experience, keep on going 👍🇬🇧

    Do you need to reset your ecu so it learns with the sensor in? also noticed you didnt show fuel trim sensor 1 or 2 can i see them please

    I'm very impressed tho how many ways that exhaust is baffled and still sounds like a full on beefy sandwich when I get mine im very obnoxious my golf is straight through my MGZR is str8 through with cats

    Doesn’t look like an OEM Cat, looks too small regardless of the fact it is an early cat and exhaust. It could be a “sports” cat, but if its an eBay special they tend have a life expectancy of about 2 yesrs.
    The change of cat and exhaust came when the MEMs 3 ECU was introduced in 2000 (late F).
    If you have a problem with the emissions at MoT get the tester to block one of the pipes up, if it helps the emissions they may not allow it to stand but it will give you a clue as to the issue.
    The heater circuit on the post cat sensor isn’t used on the standard ECU tune.

    I think you are right to reinstate the o2 sensor, but the cat is prob goosed, might be worth getting a retest with o2 sensor or seeing you can get a mobile mechanic out to test exhaust gases

    Also it might be worth checking for vacuum leaks around the top side of the engine around the manifold and throttle body, the gaskets can get old and leak. Inspect some of the vacuum hoses too - there's one that's supposed to do to an actuator for the exhaust flap but I can see your car doesn't have it any more, could be it's not plugged correctly any more. Vacuum leaks can cause your car to fail emissions and have a lumpy idle too. I usually do it by spraying brake clean around all the mating surfaces to see if the idle changes, it's a faily easy job and you could do it in a few mins.

      Il have a go at this later, do you know where the vacuum line for the exhaust back to on the engine?

    • @mattking5735
      @mattking5735 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Exhausted-autos you have an 04 model. The exhaust actuator was deleted as part of project drive so you won’t have any of the vacuum lines for that to worry about

      @@Exhausted-autos hi you have an 04 model TF. The exhaust actuator was deleted as part of project drive so it’s unlikely you have any of that system to worry about. You can check if you have it by looking under the engine cover on the right hand side by the engine mount, you’ll see a black round canister with pipes coming out of it if you have the system.

  • @olliewebbuk
    @olliewebbuk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I could be wrong, but I believe the older cars (F) used a older generation of ECU and different cam profiles, that could be where the different power output and different emissions come from.

    • @olliewebbuk
      @olliewebbuk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Also I'll add that I don't reckon any of these cars need an aftermarket exhuast really, the standard one is fine and if you want more noise just unplug the flap adjuster for low speed driving. One of the first production cars to have one of these factory fit, and also one of the first with electric power steering too.

    The check engine light showed up on my TF quite often. The reason was P0432 that means low catalyst efficiency. So I had the CAT replaced to an aftermarket one. By the way the original cat converter was totally wrong: the insert has been broken into several pieces and almost disappeared. The error code came up again even with the new cat converter too. So I had the 2nd lambda sensor changed; the problem still remained. Then I inserted an O2 sensor spacer between the exhaust pipe and the sensor - had no effect. The next part was the MAP sensor to be changed and the miracle has happened: the error has been solved permanently ;) The mixture had been too rich until the new MAP sensor. So the Check Engine light hasn't been showing up again, BUT the car failed the MOT due to the bad CO and CO2 emissions. I was tired of investigating again and again, so I sold the car. I'm convinced that the Cat. converter is undersized for this engine (it's so tiny btw). I've already had a few cars in my life but the TF had the most agressive exhaust gas ever; it's like an instant poison. Anyway, owning a TF is a great fun, but the reliability of the exhaust system and the rear suspension is a nightmare. What a pity!

    Trophy Cars will probably use what ever they have in the backyard. That is probably why the wrong ones are fitted.

      Yeah.... a dropped 9 that the tester missed. They put in 5841k when it failed in aug 2017 instead of 95846k three days later. .

      i had a similar issue with a bike that had clocks in km. one mot tester put it down as miles in test then the next in km so shows a clock back and forth 😅

    That’s the wrong cat and exhaust for a TF that’s a cat for an F. It’s missing the space for the second o2 sensor. Why you’re getting the engine light.
