The multiple abilities and talents of a farmer and farm hand are truly incredible! An average worker has to be good at one thing usually. A farm hand and farmer has to have skills and talent at everything! The most under appreciated people yet hardest working on Earth!
I’m a ranch hand at Durham Bison Ranch in Wright, WY. I find your videos to be soooo informative, especially to the unfortunate folks who have to live in the city and push paper from 9 to 5. They look at this lifestyle as too damn hard. It is hard!! But it’s the hardest job you’ll ever love!! Keep up the great site!!!
Right on Ben!!! Coming home thru the door and kissing your girl after working hard all day is one of the best feelings in the world. Keep it up brother. Hard work pays off.
Fantastic content - for this old, nearly stove-in dairy farmer. I love them SD winter hats. Good equipment and good husbandry - stay with these folks until you don't. Loving your job goes a long way to happiness. Thank you. Stay safe. All that stuff is dangerous.
It’s great seeing how things get started in the morning. You seem like a natural explaining things so best of luck with your UTube channel. I’ll be watching from Minnesota.
My grandpa used to have a ranch before he retired and I remember going out and feeding cattle in the ole John deer, loading bales in the processor, man this brings back memories, thanks for posting it was a good video!
Ben, I ran across your video this morning having my coffee. And you brought back some memories for me. I grew up on a smaller farm in South Alabama (Robertsdale). We had 380 acres and raised some cattle and horses. Most of our land was under cultivation. But growing up as a kid working the farm with my Dad and grandpa. I loved it. And to this day I still miss it. I lost both my dad and grandpa in December of 1979. I was 24 at the time. My dad had a massive heart attack, and my grandpa died a week later from his cancer. That nearly killed buddy. Anyhow, neither one had a (Will) made out, so my so-called step mom got everything and sold off just about everything except one acre and the old farmhouse. I begged her not to, so I could try to keep the farm going. At one point, I thought about moving to the Midwest and try to get a job as a farm or ranch hand. But my life took a different pass. So, the blessing you have is being able to work with livestock and crops. If you enjoy it, keep doing it as long as you can. Yes, it can be hard work dealing with all kinds of weather, but that's farm life. Anyhow, thanks for sharing your video, and I will subscribe so I can just look at what you do to keep my memories going.❤😢❤
First time viewer. Good stuff. In the first couple minutes I thought of the vastness of processing food for the masses. Then I thought of how people could contribute in a micro scale to their food. Now I think about how the industrial age changed so much of that. All through the film, though your mood is elevated when you interact with the animals. I hope that catches on with the other viewers.
The series like the 4255 sounds so amazing I mechanic in Missouri mobile for a lot of farmers and one customer has 2 and they are great and never give any trouble then you have a piece of trash like an 8260 or 7260r row crop tractors with dpf systems omg
1st time subscriber. I LOVE SD. I have been to the black hills numerous times. I have many, many relatives in sd. My mom was born on a farm outside of florence. I have a sister in Watertown and a sister in mitchell.
Well done video, smooth transitions and edits, very enjoyable content. Untapped potential, keep it up. Kinda jealous, looks like you're living the life!
Fellow South Dakotan here. I got a cousin up near Bowdle running the Sandmeier Coralis. I never got to see a lot of the work they do on a daily basis, but I'd imagine its right in line with this. Excellent video!
First time watching one of your videos, new subscriber in Rapid City. Help friends on their ranch North of town from time to time. Was out helping chop wood today in anticipation of this weekends cold spell. Be careful, stay safe and continue enjoying your life. It definitely beats living in a metropolitan area.
Ben I told you in your DM's but imma say it again here. you are such inspiration for me. I love your content and the vibe that you give! Continu doing things like this! See ya brother!
Thank you for your work. The artistry with which you bring your foreign world to me makes me want to get out there and help. In lieu of that, I got out and beat myself up riding a bike here in central OH.
LOL! I was JUST recently trying to explain to someone here on the East Coast what a Scotch Cap and wildrag was! Can't beat the combination for keeping warm.
I love your videos of the various things that happen in ranch life. I like it when you teach more on what you’re doing specifically in each job.😁I worked a job as a ranch hand too. It was super fun, I love it
Great video. You seem well fitted for the work. I hope your boss lets you do more of these. They show a life most of us know little if anything about, but I think it's fascinating.
First time I saw your channel. I like it. Nice shop. Good idea having a door on each end. Avoids all that backing out. Qiucker and safer. You don't have to worry about hitting something behind you that you can't see. That could suck if you forgot to lift that chute on the mixer wagon before you drive out of the shop though. I can see myself doing that. 🤦♂️ You are a very considerate and conscious and respectful young man. The respect have for your boss if he doesn't want to be in the videos. You respect his equipment. Taking the time to stop and get out and move the tractor and mixer wagon to keep the chopped hay from blowing over the tractor. Most guys wouldn't even think of it, or care. Those tractors are in nice condition for their age. It's obvious you take good care of them. Your boss is lucky to have you. Do you like that power quad transmission on the loader tractor? I like it better because I think it's a quicker shift from forward to reverse and back to forward than the powershift. With power shift if you are in a higher gear you gotta pull that shift lever waaay back and over and forward again, and then back and over and way forward again. But, that's just me. The powershift is nicer on that mixer wagon and for baling. Good video. The day in the life of a ranch hand in a SD winter. I know what it's like. I'm up north of you in south central ND. We are supposed to get hit with -50 degree wind chills in the next two days. Extra silage to kerp the body metabolism up in those critters. 11:31
Dope video man! The inspiration caused by your enthusiasm and love for the work is great man! Looking into a dude ranch in Colorado to get my foot in the door out there or grow connections to become a proper day hand like you and Colin had talked about, sicken tired of this Texas heat and being stuck back in the city!
Love to hear it man! Best of luck to you! Colorado is beautiful. The thing is, Texas isn’t going anywhere. It’ll be there if you ever wanna go back. It never hurts trying something new!
TH-cam decided I should watch one of your videos, it was entertaining and informative, glad it showed up in my feed. Keep it up, show these kids what real work looks like!
It was a dream of mine to work on a ranch. Instead, I enlisted in the USAF and retired after 28 years. However, I did manage to buy some land and raise some Brangus. Then Uncle Sam hit me with an assignment to the Pentagon. Had to sell all my cows and my bull Max. Sad times. But I thourghly enjoyed the few years I had them. Best time of my life. Enjoy your time on the ranch.
Hey, first time viewer/ new subscriber. You are very good at doing videos. Don't give up. I will promote you as much as possible. I have seen a lot of farm videos, and YOU are very good! Saskdutch kid is my favorite and you are that good!! I grew up in SW Minnesota near Sioux Falls (drank a lot of beer there) so I am very familiar with SD. I wish you the best. God bless.
Im subbed! Reminds me of a PG version of Yellowstone lol. One word of advice, if I may, respectfully of course, NEVER touch a horse 🐎 on its ass. You'll learn that the hard way, if you can't learn it the e z way. Also, brother, I get the feelings of being inconsiderate around your boss ans recording. I've had a channel for a few years and I'm still pretty shy on recording, although I'm my own boss, I can get a little shy recording around my chapter guys in the motorcycle club, and people who don't know I have a channel and a passion for helping folks. I love your drive, passion and honesty. Its refreshing. Thank brother. Don't change for anyone, you do you and appreciate the lift in spirits. Much respect from Minnesota 🍀
Excellent video! What part of SD are you in? I worked in Salem for a year for the former Feterl auger company….. They bought the utility vehicle company in MS I worked for and went up to help get it going….. love the country, first time up there was in 1979 for high school rodeo finals in 79 in Huron. Would love to get back up there again…..
I almost never comment on videos, but I gotta say this content is great, I like how you don't try and overdo the whole cowboy ranch hand aesthetic (idk if that makes sense) either way i subbed:)
Great video! We have a cattle ranch in NE Kansas. Are you using a GoPro to shoot all of this? What are you using to edit your videos? Thank you and keep up the good work!

YT served you up. Not sure if it's because I live in SD but really enjoyed watching your skill. You are a master in your trade.
Far from a master, but definitely trying to get there haha. Thanks for your support 😊
Looks like a typical day of a hand at any farm/ranch , good work . Brings back good memories .
Appreciate it Scott!
Very nostalgic watching your video Ben! I drive a propane truck now but a couple years ago I worked on a ranch and my days were very very similar!

Don't be foolish. One winter in SD will make you want to move to Saudi Arabia.
